  1. ... with Piet van Zyl coming into the squad? Sarel Pretorius has been the in form Free State scrummie since June, and deserves to be in the squad on form. I know it will never happen. I have always been a fan of Piet van Zyl, but he was (again) below par when he came on for the Cheetahs against Province, and I will even go so far as to say that he cost Free State the game (with his poor pass in the 79th minute that resulted in a knock-on). He was a different scrumhalf when he still had Goosen next to him earlier in the season.
  2. Bit of ambiguity in the OP's post and tiltle. Yes, the Oude Molen is now the W2W Training ride. Is he saying the W2W Training ride has been cancelled?
  3. I was sort of watching with one eye. I like the new scrum laws - will be interesting to watch it at international level later on.
  4. Nice thread. A feel good story in so many ways.
  5. Radioactive waste?
  6. Honey?
  7. Rugby festival on telly today. Doubt I'll make it off my couch. Australia vs New Zealand 12:05 Paul Roos vs Grey College 14:25 Springboks vs Argentina 17:00 WP vs Cheetahs 19:10 My quadfecta: Kiwis Grey Bokke Cheetahs
  8. Seems like the sensible thing to do!!
  9. I dunno. Not keen for a 50 km mud fest. You obviously up for it?
  10. Anybody got a decent update on the state of the trails, and will they be enjoyable come Sunday? It's pretty wet around here. I received an email warning that the route has changed and that extra caution was needed when riding in muddy conditions.
  11. Do our Premier soccer teams also have to reflect our demographics?
  12. I don't think you're being honest here .....
  13. I feel terribly sorry for the organisers - it's raining cats and dogs in the Western Cape. And it doesn't look like holding up anytime soon. It will be a mud-feast. I was planning on going through, but I'm not too sure now. Sunday's Oude Molen W2W event in Grabouw will also be interesting, although drainage is better in that area.
  14. He was probably protecting his Strava KOM.
  15. There was lots of champers on sale, which we thoroughly enjoyed.
  16. You telling me!!
  17. We're old school Fabes. But we still had PT at school. And we were compelled to do sport (although I loved my sport). Now parents must pay for their kids to get exercise as an extra curriculum activity. Not everybody can afford that. This weekend's PPA MTB race cost me R450 for my wife and I to enter. Never mind the fuel expense for driving 380 km there and back. Just the other day a daughter of a mate of mine was watching Wimbledon and said "look daddy, they're playing the same tennis game we play on the Wii box"!! I kid you not. I think Strava's place will evolve as long as there's a bicycle at hand. And it can only be good. Obviously it can never substitute a race.
  18. That just sucks. Did your car have an alarm activated? Was there anything visible that they were after?
  19. Well, some poor folks think they have friends just because they're on Facebook. Who are we to judge just because we know better and don't have a Facebook profile or Strava account? Obviously Strava will never substitute a race. But I'd love to know how I compare bombing down Hoogekraal compared to my beer-drinking, fun-loving buddies. Not sure about this KOM stuff though.
  20. That wasn't the feedback from my wife after 6 hours in the saddle ..... heard there were a few killer climbs and some fairly rocky descents.
  21. Beautiful setting and lovely ride. Very well organised and lots of small touches which showed attention to detail. The little good luck cards from the kids at registration was special. Only did the 30km as I knew it was more of a "kuier" long weekend. Somebody forgot to tell my wife though - she did the 70km. Well done to all involved!!
  22. I don't see what's wrong with people taking Strava seriously. I mean, now I can compete without another cyclist in sight. Bit like The Hub, where we can socialise, meet new friends, make enemies and offers words of wisdom without another person in sight. All in the name of technology ...
  23. Not questioning your knowledge but seeking to confirm - really? I thought it measures ketosis, which, together with elevated BG levels, gives rise to keto-acidosis, i.e. it doesn't measure keto-acidosis but ketosis?
  24. I have to agree with @Rapunzel. I don't Facebook. The trails evolve with the seasons and the wear and tear, despite the superior efforts of committed people with trail-building and maintenance experience. So be it. MTBing isn't for sissies. My wife gets her own bike over the fences (ok - I help a bit). BUT: I do believe the committee is accountable with my money, even though I voluntarily part with it. HOWEVER: The club is nothing without the support and co-operation of the landowners. We, the members, are nothing without them.
  25. But he's allowed to. Self-confessed. If you've got it, flaunt it ...
