  1. Looks like our camping weekend in Bonnievale is going to be washed out. Might just make the trip through to Eselfontein on Saturday instead!! What's a bit of drizzle amongst MTBers anyhow? Sure beats that heat you guys can dish up from time to time!!
  2. No, not at all. It's just an impression. Fortunately logic and budget dictate.
  3. Interesting rant. Just last week during the Engen MTB race in Wellington I got a puncture 15 kms from the end which was too big for the sealant to seal. No problem as I quickly plugged and bombed it and was on my way within a few seconds. But during my repairs, and young lady and her male cycling partner pass me and she asks "have you got all the tools you need?". I said thanks I'm fine. But as they cycle further I hear her partner crap on her and asks what would she have done if I had said no, to which I heard her answer she would've stopped. I think he was horrified. To be honest, if it's in a race, I'm normally near the back of the field and I need all the time I can to finish so I'll be less inclined to help. If it's a social outing somewhere, I'll always help.
  4. Some fairly divergent views here which I can research. Many thanks so far. Somehow I'm always gullible to believe most expensive is best, but seems that isn't necessarily the case here.
  5. Fully agree. Last year just before Koeberg towards Melkbos we had an incident in the bunch and some of us instinctively swerved out to avoid a pile-up. By the grace of God nothing happened, even though a truck came flying past us just seconds after we'd collected ourselves into a bunch again. One of my more enjoyable road races, but that incident made me seriously re-think whether I want to do the event again. But I guess that could happen in any of the road races.
  6. So Santa is busy doing research for flymango's wife. She wants an all round device which can measure HR, has GPS for distance and speed, and can be easily used for both cycling and running (i.e. probably a wrist device). Any recommendations? I don't even know where to start. I use a Polar myself, but I'm not a runner and don't really miss GPS.
  7. Thanks. I'll check it out.
  8. Yes, Type 1. Didn't understand why in an earlier post you mentioned your glucose levels. Do you try and restrict your son's carbo intake - obviously he's still young? I'm busy researching whether a Type 1 can also restrict carbo intake in general and whilst being active as a cyclist.
  9. @Topwine and @Richard 1973. You guys both Type 1??
  10. Would be a thorny issue if you have a DNF from the car park!! Enjoy that, um, .... you need therapy! Catch you guys for a beer afterwards.
  11. Yip, my wife and I are entered. 3 days to go. Not done this one before - looking forward to it. Maybe hook up for a beer afterwards.
  12. And a blue crane in Koeberg yesterday.
  13. Spring flowers in Koeberg last Thursday.
  14. Saturday's WP vs Cheetahs will be a good start. If Cheetahs beat WP, WP face relegation if the Griquas beat the Sharks. If Sharks beat Griquas, and Cheetahs win, WP are out of semis but not bottom of log. And then there's Lions vs Bulls. All to play for there as well for the Bulls. Many permutations at play this coming weekend!!
  15. I love the CC - only way I can gauge what talent's on offer to feed the national team.
  16. This weekend's CC fixtures are going to be crackers!! All to play for - either a semi spot or relegation at the same time for Province, Cheetahs, Griquas and Bulls.
  17. I'm assuming I can still register for the MTB on Saturday just before the event? Can't see anything that says not other than online entries are closed.
  18. Well done. Looks like a contest between you and me for the fourth spot on the log and a place in the semi's. Although Cheetahs relegation is a real prospect if they lose tomorrow against the Sharks. And the Sharks must be odds on favourites to win.
  19. http://1.1.1.3/bmi/cdn.bikehub.co.za/forum/public/style_emoticons/default/laugh.png Indeed!!! Two 29'ers is fine, but three 29'ers? Aikona.
  20. Very doable - guess total ascent counts more than km.
  21. That's quite a long ride for MTB!!
  22. Cheetahs back in the CC semis mix. Phew!
  23. Bit of a blunder in the Super Sport Preview - Keegan Daniel at 8??
