  1. So yesterday afternoon on the cycle lane just before Table View, a guy and girl on a moped scooter nearly take me out. Pointing to the R27, I appealed to him to use the road, as he was on a dedicated cycle and pedestrian lane. At that moment, a guy comes cycling past on the R27. He just laughed at me and sped off. Go figure.
  2. Isn't it Thursday and Friday supper that's more important?
  3. That was scary. Still not sure who was in the wrong?
  4. Some nice French there from Sebastian in the post race interview!!
  5. Can't be. He was on a bicycle. Probably needs cash for an upgrade.
  6. Did the new Hoogekraal trail last Saturday which forms part of the Tygerberg MTB trails. Absolutely brilliant - 99% single track.
  7. How worthwhile is low intensity without distance, i.e. a midweek ride?
  8. 9. RIP. My prayers go out for the deceased and his/her family, and for the new Hubber who witnessed this tragic accident.
  10. And respect to those dudes (I saw three of them) who did the long race with single speeds. "As jy dom is moet jy maar sukkel!!"
  11. Flippen hell. Massive hail on the East Rand. Flooding in the Eastern Cape. Snow on the mountains in Ceres. A Black South Easter forecast for Cape Town. Extreme and unusual weather!! Signs of an angry planet perhaps?
  12. A classic final lies and waits. Well done Sharks and Province. B.t.w. - why is Reinach in the team ahead of McLeod? Great prospect.
  13. Keep us posted. Have a good one too.
  14. I chickened out on the long route in the end but still had a blast on the 35km. I can't remember when last I smiled for every km along the way - must be at least 80% single track. They even cleared the verges of the single tracks with weed eaters!! Absolutely bloody brilliant - thank you to all who were involved!! Real pitty the turnout was smallish - this should be the permier event on the Western Cape MTB calender!! My wife did the 65km and said it very tough but well worth it for the view and descent. We will be back soon - I've got to try out that new section. Weather was PERFECT!! You guys who cycle there regularly are blessed with some of the best trails in the Western Cape. Must be a killer once the heat turns up?? Also briefly met the landowner (I think he is?) and trail builder (Deon?). A special thanks to him.
  15. Now that I can breath a sigh of relief as a Cheetah (for now), good luck to all you Sharkies, Lions, Bulls and WeePee supporters. I'll stick my neck out and forecast a Bulls vs Province final, contrary to popular opinion.
  16. Now where's the dislike button??
  17. And give then Blackberry's so that they can learn social skills.
  18. Unfortunately our whole food chain on planet earth is so stressed that a so-called normal, balanced diet doesn't offer the same nutritional value it did 50 years ago. With all the crap that protein livestock are fed to promote faster growth (e.g. free range chicken vs battery chicken) and genetic modifications to crops, it no wonder that supplementation has become an integral part of our diet. And that's clearly an opportunity with kids' supplementation as well. And it's no different from 30 years ago - I was given Disney-branded vitamin tablets as a kid. But I don't agree with the marketing angle - the same way a kid that needs a cellphone doesn't need a smartphone. Of much greater concern to me is the recent study on Roundup Ready GM maize!! If I'm not mistaken, a lot (if not most?) of our maize crop in SA is GM Roundup Ready. This is very, very scary stuff. And why are kids physically entering adolescence so much younger than before? Why are more and more younger people getting cancer? Why is motor neuron disease becoming more prevalent? Food for thought. Pardon the pun. http://www.thegrocer.../232603.article
  20. Stick to the champers. You know what Napoleon said about victory and defeat - pretty much where LA is now.
  21. I'm with you. After all, he did earn $21 million in 2010. Poor man.
  22. Although they do report it as a loss in earnings potential, so money not yet earned.
  23. Bloomberg: Armstrong stands to lose $30 million as sponsors flee http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-10-17/nike-ends-contract-with-lance-armstrong-amid-doping-allegations.html
  24. Think I was in M/N? Not the racing snakes up front.
  25. Ceres, what's the cut-off? Agterossies like me might only average about 10km/h on that terrain. 5 - 6 hours? That new ST sounds great, but that climb getting there looks daunting from the profile.
