Same story, I ordered tyres from Bikeinn. They arrived in SA on 27 March and are still in the container according to the agent I spoke to at the Post Office. I am not holding my breath????
KT Cycles in Pinetown
Unfortunately I don’t have more info, the owner of the LBS might have but I am just putting it out there so Hubbers are aware. I will check with the owner
We are all aware of the looting that has taken place in the past few days but I have just heard that my local bike shop (LBS) was looted on Monday. The shop has been stripped of every bike and component and the shop is just an empty shell. Please be on the lookout for suspicious looking items offered for sale on the various platforms and report to SAPS. Any other suggestions???
Is this real.......
My 2 cents worth after having done a solo 3 weeks in the Karoo and 2 weeks in the Cedarberg I will definitely stick to a hardtail mtb with front shocks. The roads in these areas are rough and the corrugations are horrible so a rigid fork would IMHO be out.
Who is the owner.?
Agree 100%. Completed a 2 week tour from Riviersonderend into the Klein Karoo which included the Swartberg and Rooiberg passes on a heavy Silverback 26er MTB fitted with rear rack and panniers, I was very happy for the front shock on the descents which were rough and corrugated. A rigid fork would have been hellSome nice suggestions here .
Just an observation from personal experience as the owner of a small bike shop in Prince Albert .
The Swartberg Pass with our without a visit to Die Hel is a very popular destination for mainly international cycling tourists and I make a point of it to talk to those passing through sometimes helping with repairs , spares and accommodation and route advice .
I have seen few bikes valued over 20K . A lot of old faithful 26" bikes that they buy in Jburg or Cape Town and fit them with panniers and water holders .
Point I am trying to make is that us South Africans , and I include myself are sometimes more concerned about the equipment than the journey .
Secondly , we South Africans don't appreciate the bike travel opportunities in our own country .
Stay healthy .
Sorry, just want others to see a better picture of your beautiful bike upright.
Thanks Andrew, not sure why it flipped the image!
My 1983 Alan has been with me since new and has not been used very much lately. I decided to give her a good polish with the intention of selling her. She cleaned up really well and after a short ride she changed my mind. She is not for sale! Still so smooth and responsive and in my eyes a real Italian stunner.
Baldy wants to go to Cape Town, not Durban,!
Good idea, thanks a lotI know you are based in Natal, but here in Cape Town, this is the guy I go to for making small bike parts. Kevin Wilkinson used to be a bike mechanic for BMC in Salt River and a few years ago joined his family business, but he still makes special bike parts for BMC and anyone restoring old bikes. Perhaps if all else fails, try find someone like him in your part of the world?
Hi all, only just found this forum and it is great. I have a 1983 Alan with the oval top tube which I am still using on my home trainer. Was hoping someone can help with the rear derailleur. It is a Suntour Superbe and is missing the attaching stud. I would be willing to buy the whole derailleur.
having ridden 3 Epics, (done some hard yards...) and being only JUST the wrong side of 50, i could not give a toss what others think about me on an E-bike!
Most passing judgement have never ridden one, and as for my mates, anyone 'never letting me live it down' could p!ss off!
To be fair, I broke a leg - badly - and after the doctor 'prescribed' a stationary bike to rebuild both muscle-strength, as well as fitness, i rather (with his approval) electrified and old MTB, and never had as much fun!
I work HARDER with it - on the flats anyway - since i pedal with it OFF, meaning extra 5-10% resistance (electric motors create resistance) and then there is the extra 8kg of motor+battery.
Its brilliant for commuting; gives me a helping hand up Suikerbossie, and allows me to accelerate AWAY from peak hour traffic when stopped at traffic lights. Downhills and flats, i don't use it, gale-force South Easter, with the CT harbour cranes not working due to wind, I cycle thru the Habour using pedal assist level 3 (of 9 available levels), and can manage the 30-odd km's back to Hout Bay...
then, finally, it I-S fun rocketing past the Lycra clad, neon, advertising-emblazoned roadies on their R50K+ bikes, who look a bit like praying mantis's (!), in my old baggies and an older T-shirt
Life is too short, i tell ya.....
At 63 my thoughts exactly. I am planning a long tour on an ebike. Needing advice if anyone has done this.

So I drive from Durban to Cape Town, pay for accommodation and have the test. If it is positive I cant ride even though there is a chance of false positives with these tests. Hmmmmm
