  1. Funny how the "sharper ones" always pick on the most base interpretations of nicknames too! The less sharp ones might have given it a bit of thought first ... but then again ...
  2. Or the naturally sarcastic amongst us got it first time. Sharp?....I have my doubts.
  3. ... and the point is that if you cannot change the way you ride you are contributing to the overall problem. Which is not only the risk that people are taking because it is an "unwritten rule" (bullsh*t) but it DOES contribute to the sense that cyclists are inconsiderate sh*ts on the road. It's a little bit like the bigger picture in RSA. We all scream about the level of crime but very few of us will start with the little things that we can change. Anyway, that's me done preaching for the month of December :-)
  4. Like I said, take the sarcasm somewhere else.
  5. yep, he bought a tandem frame
  6. You should be able to construct something that attaches to the roof rack, or body and also the towbar to spread the weight. It is a Landie after all. Sounds like a fun project. I mounted two holders on the inside and fold the rear seats up when I want to have two bikes inside and can still have 3 on the rack on the towbar. Of course in your case the kids would have to sit on the roof. One bit of advice don't use the racks that strap onto the rear wheel - your rear door will start to take strain.
  7. I assume that both WPCA and PPA will be present? If so who will be representing me and the hundreds of other confused (but don't know it yet ) WC Cyclists. Maybe they both represent one half of me as I belong to a club and the PPA? C'mon people this is stupid. The PPA and WPCA need to become one body or organised cycling in the WC will suffer.
  8. And not everyone has the ability to be as analytical as you. People on the other end of the logic scale will read the sort of emotion fuel that he serves up, absorb it, regurgitate it regularly and ultimately it inflames already tense situations. The reason that I took offense to his cycling article is exactly for that reason - it just added that little more weight to the widely held belief that lycra clad cyclists don't belong on South African roads
  9. Likewise, I suppose that the devout christians & muslims won't see the harmless side of his latest provocations. I enjoy wit and good satire but his drivel is simply designed to stir up emotion with a few cliches thrown in. He and that jon qwelane fool are from the same mould
  10. somewhere i read something that puts it into perspective - iBike and the polar are "power estimators" because they do not measure torque directly
  11. not from what I've heard. Couple of people I know have sent them back
  12. Nope, not from people I know that tried it. Vibration screws it up and I still have doubts that it can accurately deal with all the other variables that it is faced with. Would go for the Polar before this.
  13. The guy who wrote the piece about running cyclists down for points.... Looks like the beeld is starting to tire of his crap thinly disguised as satire or whatever other excuse he uses to stir sh*t. This time it is freedom of expression. Looks like we didn't try hard enough - these guys got it right. http://www.news24.com/News24/South_Africa/News/0,,2-7-1442_2221846,00.html
  14. in the karoo in summer or cape town in winter?
  15. " ... but it will still be a requirement that the licence holder must be a member of a club or of their Provincial Body (i.e. CGC, Pedal Power Association)." Will the real provincial body in the Western Cape please stand up! PPA or WPCA?
  16. If you are trying to match the power that you would use on the road then set it so that it feels harder. If you had a power meter you would probably see that even though it feels much harder the power output is usually a lot lower. So set it harder .... or maybe not if you don't want to end up throwing it out the window halfway thru the session.
  17. At least he remembers to a) unclip when the group stops for a coffee break b) concentrate when riding thru "soft stuff" at the entrance to wine farms
  18. And just to emphasise the point that common sense should prevail. Every one of the cyclists on this site proclaiming that we should stick to the letter of the law is either ignorant of that law or is a very inconsiderate cyclist. If you ride inside of the yellow line you are breaking the law just as if you jump red lights. The sensible thing to do is ride on the inside of the yellow lane when it is safer (i.e. sensible) to do so despite what the law says. AND sometimes it is actually safer to ride in the middle of the lane despite the opinions of those motorists who have absolutely no sense of what it takes to safely navigate a bicycle safely on our roads.
  19. I'm pretty ignorant on MTB issues. Is there not a SA Champs event? If so and you rode in that and achieved results I guess that should qualify you??
  20. Just downloaded software for my Nokia N95 and it seems to have all the features that I could ask for from a GPS bike computer. Let's see if it has the battery life?
