  1. Bruce, here is the data for the last image. This is all IDT (Magnetic) work Temp: Duration: 3:48 Work: 53 kJ TSS: 5.7 (intensity factor 0.951) Norm Power: n/a VI: n/a Pw:HR: n/a Pa:HR: n/a Distance: 1.832 km Min Max Avg Power: 160 283 232 watts Cadence: 53 84 65 rpm Speed: 23.6 31 28.9 kph Pace 1:56 2:33 2:04 min/km Hub Torque: 7 11.4 9.6 N-m Crank Torque: 19.3 46.5 34.6 N-m
  2. Here is another extract from a different ride. Again note the significant range. I specifically didn't post this one because the cadence is lower & closer to the 1.26 number. Still think that it is an artifact related to the sampling rate?
  3. Ok, I remember reading about this somewhere and satisfied myself about the generally jagged nature of the power curve at the time ... but neither 95 nor 100 rpm is an exact multiple of 1.26. hence my question why there is a such a significant difference between 95 & 100 rpm. If you can find a harmonic of the two frequencies 1.2/sec & 95 rpm and/or 1.26/sec & 100 rpm that explains this then .... Not sure if your postings tell the whole story though. 4. I've been doing a lot of IDT work lately - the only way that I can get a consistent training done. Apart from starting to get my head around not being able to generate the same power as on the road (that's a different story altogether) I am starting to notice a couple of things. Here is an extract from my warm up this morning. Note the smooth plots for the power & torque graphs shortly after I start then as the cadence increases from 95 to 100 the plots take a sawtooth pattern. I am wondering whether this is an indicator of my pedal "smoothness" decreasing at the higher cadence or whether it is an artifact of the PT system. I am using a mag trainer but I doubt very much that is the cause. I know that the PT samples at 1.26s so I would expect to see any artifacts at a multiple of this i.e. 75 rpm. Thoughts?
  5. In my opinion it is better than the iBike but it will drive you to drink!! I started with a 725 + power combination and try as hard as I could to set it up with special brackets etc etc etc it was not consistent across the gear range. But having said that it sure is better than nothing. It will result in you buying a PT :-) ps To demonstrate how desperate I am about riding with power (note that I can't use the word training again just yet) I bought a new version for the tandem but have given up on that too. 6. EXCELLENT! I am sitting here with the giggles!
  7. and besides, with all this evidence you bettern not try to do any of the PPA events. They are getting strict on the white line rule and you just got dq'ed.
  8. buy a road bike MTB's are supposed to be ridden in the "full parachute" position for maximum character building benefit (or so all the off roaders tell me) . They don't do the woosie aero stuff. Besides you go so slow on an MTB that it doesn't make much difference. Windbreaker2008-02-03 11:35:05
  9. It was quite interesting standing on the side of the road waiting for a lift back (Skye got lost ). Bet I could not have convinced many people to stop even with an offer to buy a tube for R1000. I am sure I saw the following emotions play across quite a few people faces "hey that's Gary .... oh sh*t he might expect me to stop & help .... what do I do .... wonder if he has seen me? ... maybe if I just put my head down he won't ask for help " Hey don't feel bad I wouldn't have stopped either!!! Think I also spotted a few hubbers - definitely saw popeye hauling his merry bunch on the flat towards the prison turnoff. Windbreaker2008-02-03 10:15:37
  10. Wife & I did an Orange river trip with Felix a few years ago. It was a holiday that I would recommend to anyone if you are after a soul soother. We want to do it soon, though April might still be a little too hot. One problem is that they didn't have a long enough extension lead for her hairdryer ... one that would reach from Noordoewer to the overnight camp sites. Also make sure that you don't paddle with your wife. Sound travels a long way on flat water. They told me my engine had a loud whine.
  11. Ever tried to haggle with a webserver & databse before?? I'm old enough to remember that the early benefits/promises of online shopping was cheaper prices due to lower cost of sales. Haven't seen it yet ... Same as how technology was going to make life your work life easier ... ja ja!
  12. For practical purposes you do whatever you need to do to remain safe. Some people feel that pausing at a red traffic light improves there safety - yet it is against the law and we crucify them a la idrive. On the other hand if the law is on our side then maybe the knife needs to be wielded before the gun can be drawn??? Basically what I am saying is that we need to argue for some changes to legislation to improve our circumstances and where that legislation exists we should use it until "being practical" matches what the law states.
  13. C'mon spill the beans.
  14. Nope, I think that the lesson was learned last year - 12 max! p.s. I just realised that it only happens in July or something so maybe your 22 pages is right after all. I take back my chips. Windbreaker2008-01-23 12:00:48
  15. Is the data still on the CPU? If so try downloading it direct with PA first. Then take it into Trainingpeaks. If you get the same problem it must be on the CPU. If you don't then Trainingpeaks is the culprit.
  16. Nope haven't done any damage to my bike. I am starting to think about taking my training seriously again but I also don't want to give up on the tandem so I am going to install a Polar CS600 power sensor on the tandem (measuring the tension & speed of the timing chain) and need to make a bracket to mount the sensor onto (no chainstay available). The bracket needs to mount to the tube between the 2 BB's - for that I need to insert a couple of rivnuts. I saw said tool yesterday (I don't know the owner from Adam and the guy obviously isn't willing to part with it) wondered why you could not use a long bolt with matching thread, two washers, and a nut to achieve the same result. If you are doing lots of these regularly then the tool is obviously a must. I don't need an excuse to go out and buy a new tool but I guessed that I am going to battle to find this thing - and I'm not known for patience when it comes to stuff like this. 17. Probably one for Johan Bornman, I was told that it is not a good idea to insert and set Rivnuts using anything other than the proper tool. To me they look like they could just as easily be set with a home-made jig. Second question - where can I get Rivnuts in Cape Town. Called my lbs today to see if they had them and was told my frame was a "throw away" if they were loose. Windbreaker2008-01-17 12:37:44
  18. I got the Keo Classics shortly after they came out and got a couple of sets of the Easy's last month and like I said, I CANNOT tell which set I am using unless I look (excuse the pun) . That includes on the intervals on the IDT, powering up hills, standing, sprinting etc. No difference. Never unclipped on either - in fact my wife uses the Classics so that she can release the tension more. Never unintentionally unclipped but I did have two classics break on me though. One just broke in half & one the pivot axle pulled out - almost came down on both occasions I think Look made a bit of a booboo bringing the Easy's out as I am certain that they will displace the "sexier" "higher spec" models. But then again us cyclists are suckers for a good marketing line & shiny stuff.
  19. Borrow another CPU.
  20. Ag please do!!!! Ek brand om dit te hoor!!!!A feint with a short left jab ... seems like Killer Crux is trying to open his opponents defense ... still waiting for that explosive upper cut!!!! Do I see another straight left from amoryns or vet pens????
