  1. His point is irrelevant anyway, he fell under their jurisdiction as the Director of US Postal - a team domiciled in the US. If I as a South African was working for a US bank in Singapore, I would still fall under the jurisdiction of US regulators. Guy is just grabbing at the only straw he thinks he has.
  2. Must be. The guy that came in 193rd is angry at the guy that took 192nd and is a known juicer. Or somebody just reported him on principle. You shouldn't be doping; even if you don't win it will p*ss people off. I for one don't mind them testing, catching and banning back markers. Rules are rules and apply to everyone to keep the sport clean.
  3. If it works it works, do another block 6 week FTP builder (you'll start with a higher FTP test and then obviously a more challenging programme). Then you'll have your base fitness truly sorted. Two 6 week blocks of base building is a great setup prior to going for more specialist blocks. The two programmes you propose are worlds apart and properly specialist in application. What do you want to do? What are you racing? If I had the time and discipline, I'd do two blocks of FTP builder, Build Me Up https://whatsonzwift.com/workouts/build-me-up/ and then a specialist block - probably this one https://whatsonzwift.com/workouts/8wk-race-day-prep/ For me this would be the perfect CTCT programme. What are your goals?
  4. For road running races it was down to the cost of Metro Police securing the route that just grew way ahead of inflation to the point where smaller races were no longer feasible. I remember being shocked the first time I had to pay R100 to do a half marathon a few years ago, now you you'll maybe find a 10km for that cheap unless it's run somewhere the Metro are not required. Between 2012 and 2016 entry prices more than doubled - far ahead of inflation. This despite participation seeing steady growth. It's probably mostly increasing cost putting pressure on races. Despite the pro-CSA "lobby's" insinuation of a shortage of volunteers being cycling's largest challenge, there always seems to be plenty of people volunteering their time or their land for awesome races.
  5. The middle distance 109km on One Tonner must be very similar to the previous Burger route? Much smaller race, but hopefully better weather!
  6. Also in %, can only mean they are expecting a very poor field I'm usually a D
  7. He's only 24, probably hasn't been wronged by this case in particular.
  8. Spur MTB Classic - mostly because it was in my back yard
  9. Terrible!! He didn't even get to stand on the podium, now he's the champ. Do the winnings that dopers need to return get redirected to the new winners?
  10. Wow, these guys are serious about keeping it "drugs-free". Can't imagine there are any competitive advantages to using cannabis. No cyclists, our dopers don't do dope
  11. I'm based 5km from the race venue; this has gone from the most convenient race I've ever done to something far more silly. Surely they must allow on the morning registration? It's a small event
  12. Exactly, sort of like being a registered sex offender. Everybody should know you committed this offence even though you've done your time and paid your dues. All the questions being asked detract from the prestige of his victory. "Is he a worthy champion?" headlines, the lack of enthusiasm and elation for his victory - these are the costs of being caught doping even if you go on to achieve success later. His victory will never be as celebrated as that of an untainted rider. A young rider, who might aspire to wear that jersey one day, would in all likelihood notice how celebrated Sagan (2015-2017) was and how muted the celebrations were for Valverde. It wasn't always the case. While generation EPO are ostracized, Merckx and Pantani are still revered despite in all likelihood doping more aggressively than anybody could without being caught in the mid 2000s. Perhaps that is where the change will come from, when the majority of cycling fans no longer hold the "they all dope anyway so I'll forgive my hero for getting caught" view. We seem to give dopers less mercy than we used to. That might give riders the incentive to stay clean.
  13. It had a date listed in cyclistsguide, but I couldn't find any detail on a 2018 race. Seems it didn't happen http://www.cyclistsguide.co.za/pages/calendar/races_in_sa/RacesInSA.aspx?RaceNo=1500050691
  14. Nope he was competing, came in 3rd. That comes with a medal and an envelope. Check around 8:00 mark https://www.facebook.com/drevilclassic/videos/2129288010424491/ As an aside, don't know if this was isolated to Dr Evil and K2C or not. Scott and The Bike Shop were sponsors to both events and the Bike Shop management was obviously very involved in Dr Evil especially.
  15. I'm 48 hours late to the party, but how good was this deal? https://www.onedayonly.co.za/professional-tool-kit-pk-3.html
  16. Not always if there's no event the coming weekend, but if a race is to be done with Racetec chips the upcoming weekend it will always be rerun by Tuesday/Wednesday. We need those new seedings for CS#5!
  17. Canyon only sell by shipping internationally, there's no Canyon brick and mortar dealer in SA or anywhere else in the world. Not the typical case where somebody ordered a Shimano groupset from CRC in order to cut out the local suppliers. The warranty sits with Canyon, not the local distributor. I would argue that it makes a lot of sense for Canyon to do a small transaction with the local distributor to replace the component instead of getting the client to courier it to Germany and couriering a replacement. This comes with the added pains for customs, time delays etc. From Canyon's perspective it's probably cheaper to do this than the paying for the two-way courier and customs on a EUR200 part. On top of that Cool Heat is reputable and can check if the part is actually broken. We aren't the only faraway country they ship to, there must be some of this going on for smaller issues.
  18. I'm somewhat surprised by that, quite a few bikes are coming out OEM with them now. Maybe the after market takes a while to catch up.
  19. You are comparing two diffrent products. You linked to ESI Fit XC grips but posted ESI Chunky grips from the other shop. ESI Chunky is available from CWC for R270.
  20. You will be totally alone on the route.
  21. I was hoping they would use this opportunity to replace that boring Richmond course, but it seems they are still using it once this month
  22. That second checkpoint was awesome! I had to remind myself not to eat all the calories I'm burning and then some
  23. Possibly because I ate yours before you got there! I found the water points to be very well stocked and manned for an event of this size. The oranges and banana bread were delicious. I didn't need the toilet and neither did my wife so didn't actually notice that issue. I do usually carry some "white gold" on me just in case I need to go in nature.
  24. Their sole purpose was to (aggressively) keep you from taking your bike into the picnic area, so that your bike could get nicked outside of the picnic area. Other than the parking mess and the unpleasantness of hearing bikes were stolen, we had a tremendous blast. The sand was difficult, but I have zero experience with sand and will endeavour to do better next time. Excellent and really beautiful route. Bring on a longer and more challenging option at next year's edition.
  25. Terrible!! I rode here solo a few days ago.... my wife does the same on occasion.
