  1. No sure if they will be using the same format as last year? I'm seeded in B and certainly don't belong there if that's the case. Last year the median B batch finisher came within 10% of the winner's time. Otherwise my guess is they are going for fewer but larger groups.
  2. Nope haven't got mine, are the emails going out already? Do you maybe have a link?
  3. And one hell of a bargain if you have a delivery address in the UAE
  4. A mate I ride with never has a saddle bag or any spares on him. He's always relying on one of the rest of us (or complete strangers) to provide bombs or even tubes if things go wrong. It wouldn't bother me as much if he wasn't constantly quoting the Rules and criticising other's saddle bags. Now that I think about it.. next time I'm leaving him in the dirt, quoting Rule 43 as I disappear into the distance
  5. Absolutely, they should be scoring 15 at the pushed's expense!
  6. I see PAA included DC2017 for seeding, but added a 15 penalty I wonder why. Isn't having a team no different to riding in the bunch?
  7. https://www.jetlineactionphoto.com/find_photos.php They seem to still be sorting through everything, we only have our start photo thus far
  8. I was wondering the same thing just just second! Plenty photographers around, must be some awesome pics
  9. That was such a mess, when half the group accidentally launched with the group in front somebody shouted "there goes our engine room!" I was still stiff and sore from the previous day's ride, but managed to find my legs in the second half of the race and took some pulls at the front. Really enjoyed the ride!
  10. You tandem guys are hardcore, 55/56t sounds huge!
  11. That's about 2% of hidden fees. Try entering for Ironman Barcelona where there is an 8% "Active Fee" over and above the advertised price. I agree that it's merely extracting a somewhat masked higher price for an already overpriced event, but if the demand is there they'll keep at it. Ironman is wholly owned by Wanda Group and 100% for profit. It annoys the living daylights out of me, but I still pay up!
  12. I agree! Especially as at the price they even offer great value. I wasn't expecting them to match the experience of Argus, nor do I mind riding the same route more than once either clockwise or counter clockwise. That area remains gorgeous every time. The highlight is the view from the top of Bothmanskloof Pass.
  13. Do you have a bluetooth HR strap?
  14. Don't want to sound like the most horrendous skeptic, but I think there is a near certainty that the protesters will be back to disrupt the race in 2018. There is nothing the organisers can do about that. Care to speculate on how (if at all) they intend to handle this? Plan A can't be to shorten the route to 70km. Do they have a plan? Is their a darn thing they could do? Yes yes only the government could actually prevent protests (by either delivering the housing or deploying riot police.... eeeek), but let's not hold on to our hearts here. I suppose if they DID have some master plan involving an alternative route that was still 100km+ they should keep it a secret until race day, otherwise the protests will move to disrupt the new route as well.
  15. Thanks for this, gives me some insight Unfortunately the room only has the one wall socket. I've got an old UPS lying around, I'm going to put that between the wall socket and the laptop to see if that protects against the disruption. I'm just a bit confused about the whole thing as the laptop is sure to have UPS like properties through its battery system anyway? Will report back
  16. I have a strange issue, whenever I change the speed on the large fan that is blowing on me the ANT+ drops and I have to exit Zwift and relaunch to get it going. I've taken to setting the fan to max before I start my workout to avoid this, just means I'm a bit chilly for the first 5 minutes of my ride. I'm using a laptop, but will try use the one USB 3.0 port for the dongle in future.
  17. Guys was hoping to get some help, what desk do you use (if any) when on the IDT? My screen is mounted ahead of me but I find that I'd really like to have a mouse and a laptop just in front of my handlebars. I love this from Wahoo: http://www.wahoofitness.com/media/catalog/product/w/a/wahoo_fitness_cycling_desk_with_bike.jpg But at R5000 it's just not happening. I'm thinking of using a hospital overbed table that can be bought for about R1500 Adjustable height, think it should work well. Only concern is how close my front wheel can get to the middle rod and if the table will be close enough to be used comfortably.
  18. My application was successful! Now I have until tomorrow 4pm to raise the money...
  19. Sounds phenomenal! Planning on doing this with a mate next month. We'll probably stick to the suggested schedule as we have 9 days only. Apologies for the Strava stalking Tim, I was searching for others who had done it as part of my planning (not to mention checking out the difficulty relative to my own ability)
  20. That's for a power rider! I think it would work if you had a support vehicle so you could ride lite. A group on Strava did it recently, they used the suggested schedule other than stages 4 - 6, where they basically drove right through Calitzdorp, slept at Rooiberg Lodge then rode right through Riversdal to Swellendam. So basically 1.5 stages on those two days. https://www.strava.com/activities/982749149 https://www.strava.com/activities/984300702 https://www.strava.com/activities/985871546 https://www.strava.com/activities/987621584 https://www.strava.com/activities/989622156 https://www.strava.com/activities/992358179 https://www.strava.com/activities/994204282
  21. 4mm in Centurion today, but more rain falling now
  22. So what's the verdict? Is the 30km green?
  23. Baffles the mind!
  24. I know the conversation has kind of drifted to reasons for wearing a race number and also doing the race as a "bandit", but I still think (as others do) that it all comes down to the profit motive.... They "force" us to collect a physical race number at the expo where ASG themselves and a few sponsors can get some airtime from participants. It is frankly irksome and somewhat cocky for a smaller race to do something like this (the expo is pretty crappy anyway), but the principle remains the same. 947, CTCT, Two Oceans and Comrades all make a song and dance about the expo, but honestly the sponsors pay a major chunk of race costs and they do it for eyeballs. Just a few short years ago Comrades had a mail in option. Good luck getting them to mail you anything now, the sponsors need to see feet moving through that expo. ASG are a 100% for-profit organisation, despite what happens to the proceeds of this race. Even though I mostly detest goody bags their position here also pisses me off - some corporate deciding on my behalf to donate to a cause I haven't selected. Edit: spelling
