  1. Don't try this flying from Milan They have the right to charge you and reading elsewhere they certainly do on occasion. I guess I was just unlucky.
  2. Your point on new models being announced soon seems even more likely now. Hopefully we see more and better midrange direct drive trainers. Keep in mind that Tacx has been overpriced in the US for ages now; to some extent this is merely balancing things out. If I lived in Europe I would have the Neo.
  3. Gorgeous bike! Have you weighed it? Looks light as a feather.
  4. Ah sorry missed the 4K detail
  5. R190.81 extra for peace of mind https://www.takealot.com/apple-32gb-tv-4th-generation/PLID46989298
  6. Medicare hospital equipment company. http://www.medicare.co.za/listproducts.aspx?categoryid=43
  7. I use one of these The TV is mounted on the wall; I have my laptop, phone and hydration on the tray table.
  8. Canyon don't provide this, I have asked. I think they fully acknowledge that it's almost entirely manufactured in China and assembled in Germany.
  9. I have just returned from Milan via Dubai on Emirates. Flying the bike there no issues whatsoever, returning in Milan I was forced to pay the $250 overweight charge for both our bikes. Turns out just because you got through OR Tambo doesn't mean they won't enforce the rules elsewhere. I kept being told that I was "lucky" for not being charged the fee in Johannesburg, but I would have left the bikes with my brother (our lift) and made a plan to rent had the staff at check-in at ORT informed me I would face these penalties. Now they let us fly to Italy no problem, only to charge us $500 to bring our bikes back. It was a less than pleasant end to an awesome honeymoon.
  10. What I love about them is they take responsibility for the duties and local VAT. You pay the all inclusive price upfront, zero nonsense admin fees or hassle. There is no reason CRC can't do the same
  11. What's happening with that Farr Out frame? Is it available?
  12. . Edit: never mind was asking a silly question
  13. That's very good! Banks usually charge 2.75% of transaction value for the forex conversion. It's actually where the WORST noncompetitive behavior sits and nobody seriously takes them on about it.
  14. 10% off all bikes at 2017 black Friday sale
  15. Who are you using for the components? I went through the same exercise and they were so competitively priced even after the additional duty the complete bike was cheaper than importing the frame from Canyon and components from Merlin/CRC. Maybe if you caught a great deal on a groupset it could make sense, but I've yet to spot a good deal on a complete disc with Di2/Etap groupset.
  16. I can't praise this race enough! It was simply awesome. Route, scenery, waterpoints, finish area.. all excellent. I'll be back
  17. Don't have the answer to your question, but a gravel bike with campy gruppo sounds like the coolest thing ever
  18. Yes it is excellent https://www.dcrainmaker.com/2017/03/wahoo-elemnt-bolt-in-depth-review.html Ray produces the most ridiculously thorough reviews and he is obsessed with preserving his objectivity. If I didn't already own the Garmin Edge 520 when this was released I would have gone with the Bolt.
  19. Only way to get that bike down to 23k is to avoid both duty and VAT
  20. This is HUGE?? How are we not better informed on this kind of thing on the Hub? Found an updated one, published first of this month (so here's hoping it's not an April Fool's joke) Trail: http://www.sars.gov.za/ClientSegments/Customs-Excise/Pages/Tariff.aspx Which leads to: http://www.sars.gov.za/Legal/Primary-Legislation/Pages/Schedules-to-the-Customs-and-Excise-Act.aspx Now click on "Part 1", ordinary customs duty http://www.sars.gov.za/AllDocs/LegalDoclib/SCEA1964/LAPD-LPrim-Tariff-2012-04%20-%20Schedule%20No%201%20Part%201%20Chapters%201%20to%2099.pdf Page 620 So it seems guys who haven't been charged the import duty aren't merely lucky, bikes imported from the EU attract no duty.
  21. What size is the bike bag that you usually get away with? I'm flying with an EVOC bag in May, hoping to pass through unscathed!!
  22. Automatically excluded when you set your location to South Africa. They don't add back the SA VAT (or duties). That's for you to calculate yourself
  23. Are you certain you didn't just get lucky? Everywhere I've read it seems imported bikes incur the 15% duty in addition to 15% VAT.
  24. No, better if it's you. EU VAT rates are very high and as a ZA resident you can claim most of the VAT back at the airport. Your EU resident friend won't have this luxury, but then they don't need to pay the ZA VAT either.
