  1. I had the same negative experience in 2019. However it used to be an amazing race and with the much longer runway (plus a sponsor secured) I believe they are trying to revive it properly for 2020. I've also taken a discounted entry for next year, backing them to do a better job.
  2. I'm sure you did, Dyllan. But don't you work at Buycyle?
  3. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h8_r6Hn-Brs Inferior to the R12-R15k units from Tacx, Wahoo and Elite, but more expensive than the Neo and Kickr4.
  4. The marketing is on point, just look at what they've been posting https://www.instagram.com/cable_station_hill_climb/ I don't own any cool steel bikes.... would it be ok if I arrive on a 10kg aliminium 2013 Scott with a carbon fork (though the steerer is still aluminium)? I'm sure it's heavier than the titanium bikes...
  5. Just buy another trainer for the wife
  6. If you want to use it with an existing screen or television, there's the Apple TV. Super simple and performs well. Takealot are selling the 4K version for R2.9k. Will outperform a cheap laptop. Note that you'll need a trainer that has BLE as the Apple TV doesn't do ANT+.
  7. As I understand it the actual Indian/Atlantic Ocean split is at Cape Agulhas. So Two Oceans has never actually touched more than one ocean, regardless of whether Chappies is included.
  8. Does anyone have a checklist for those of us that suffer from severe pre-race jitters?
  9. Just keeps going in loops indefinitely, unless you do something that has a specific orange jersey for that loop.
  10. Replace it now, but cough up for the XX1 chain in gold or black. They last forever. Mine has 2000km and not even showing 0.25 Edit: I recall some guys run 3 chains to 0.5, then run those same 3 chains to 0.75. Then replace chains and cassette. I'll reiterate that the XX1 chains will make this entire cycle stretch much longer.
  11. Serious mischief? Sounds like serious criminality!
  12. Have you seen how many posters buy their first Garmin and start a thread with some stupid question that Google/Youtube/RTFM could have solved in 2 minutes? A gathering of tech-savvy youngsters the hub is not.. Back on topic, I've been reasonably happy with the classifieds. Plenty of scavengers and swindlers, yes, but for anybody with a healthy amount of skepticism the classifieds are an excellent tool. That's selling. Buying also not bad. I'm not fond of the bikeshops that sell used goods at inflated prices, feels like greasy used car salesmen butting in between a group of otherwise familiar people. I assume they support the site financially, which is good. So we live with it. Overall a great tool, certainly my favorite way to buy and sell bike stuff.
  13. Probably all fine if they were just transparent about the customer's part arrangement upfront and then communicated clearly. Some sellers leave these details out as it might deter some buyers. I feel you have a right to know if someone is selling on another's behalf. More than once we've had a seller refuse to stand good on faulty equipment they sold for someone else, so it does seem to add to the risk. Thank you for letting us know the outcome.
  14. Blaming PPA sounds like a lame excuse. I'm sure at such a small race those that come in the top 3 for their category would be satisfied with a handshake and a pic of themselves on the podium.
  15. Some colour on this?
  16. My wife counted 4 in her group, a bit of a joke!
  17. Also on the XR1 and won't be buying them again once they are done. Very fast but at the cost of grip when things get even slightly tricky. Perhaps I just can't corner.. Probably ideal for this race if you are on a dual-sus 29er! I will be.
  18. Usually the best stand at any expo
  19. Beats are absolutely rubbish Cheapest set that's still great is AKG NC60 (new Bluetooth version). This is closer to "on-ear" though. Midrange option Sony WH-1000XM3, my wife has these and they are excellent. Premium I would go Bose Quietcomfort 35.
  20. Or they were seeded better and dropped back?
  21. Here you go: https://www.facebook.com/events/253097475377659/
  22. There were serious doubts the event would happen at all as they struggled to find a new headline sponsor. Takealot came on board later last year and only then did they open entries. Perhaps they left the actual organization/planning/routing of the race up to that (very late) point. Agree that keeping us informed and communicating the challenges would have been helpful. But as it stands I believe they acted disingenuously, taking entries upfront and not communicating route issues because they didn't want it to affect demand. Then they don't even own up to it, publishing this marketing nonsense yesterday: "time trial switch adds spice to Tour of Good Hope" A more appropriate headline: "customer pays for 3 course meal, gets fish&chips instead." By the by, all this info I've gleaned from cycling media. As an entrant the ONLY communication I've received from ASG was my confirmation of payment. Zero correspondence otherwise.
  23. So deflated. I followed a colleague doing the race last year and jumped at the opportunity to ride it myself in 2019. I have done all the PPA rides, so this will barely be a tepid and expensive rehash of all that. Stage 4 will be the only worthwhile ride. Again, entries closed long before the route reveal. I entered based on last year's route, which was awesome. No excuses for CTCT now. Not like I'm doing insane riding in the week leading up to it any longer.
