  1. Geez I realize a lot of the inputs for a great mtb race is done for love and nothing else, but surely giving each landowner a couple of entries buys plenty of goodwill relatively cheaply?? I don't know what kind of farm you have, but are they accommodating in terms of putting up your own banners and giving you a punt (if you are for example a wine farm and there's some value in putting that "Spier" logo up everywhere and getting some airtime)? Basically like the event sponsors get to do. Agree re Dirtopia and the good work they do, if it weren't for their races some of the trails I use wouldn't ever be maintained.
  2. Only the profile published on the website http://www.stellenboschmtbchallenge.co.za/wp-content/uploads/sites/4/2018/05/STB-MTB-Profile-50km-2018.png
  3. I've always wondered what the arrangements with the land owners are. Do organizers typically share some of the entry fees with them?
  4. Canyon refuses to do this, I have tried
  5. Your point on new models being announced soon seems even more likely now. Hopefully we see more and better midrange direct drive trainers. Keep in mind that Tacx has been overpriced in the US for ages now; to some extent this is merely balancing things out. If I lived in Europe I would have the Neo.
  6. Gorgeous bike! Have you weighed it? Looks light as a feather.
  7. Ah sorry missed the 4K detail

  10. I use one of these The TV is mounted on the wall; I have my laptop, phone and hydration on the tray table.
  11. Canyon don't provide this, I have asked. I think they fully acknowledge that it's almost entirely manufactured in China and assembled in Germany.
  12. What's happening with that Farr Out frame? Is it available?
  13. . Edit: never mind was asking a silly question
  14. That's very good! Banks usually charge 2.75% of transaction value for the forex conversion. It's actually where the WORST noncompetitive behavior sits and nobody seriously takes them on about it.
  15. 10% off all bikes at 2017 black Friday sale
  16. Who are you using for the components? I went through the same exercise and they were so competitively priced even after the additional duty the complete bike was cheaper than importing the frame from Canyon and components from Merlin/CRC. Maybe if you caught a great deal on a groupset it could make sense, but I've yet to spot a good deal on a complete disc with Di2/Etap groupset.
  17. I can't praise this race enough! It was simply awesome. Route, scenery, waterpoints, finish area.. all excellent. I'll be back
  18. Don't have the answer to your question, but a gravel bike with campy gruppo sounds like the coolest thing ever
  19. Yes it is excellent https://www.dcrainmaker.com/2017/03/wahoo-elemnt-bolt-in-depth-review.html Ray produces the most ridiculously thorough reviews and he is obsessed with preserving his objectivity. If I didn't already own the Garmin Edge 520 when this was released I would have gone with the Bolt.
  20. Only way to get that bike down to 23k is to avoid both duty and VAT
  21. This is HUGE?? How are we not better informed on this kind of thing on the Hub? Found an updated one, published first of this month (so here's hoping it's not an April Fool's joke) Trail: http://www.sars.gov.za/ClientSegments/Customs-Excise/Pages/Tariff.aspx Which leads to: http://www.sars.gov.za/Legal/Primary-Legislation/Pages/Schedules-to-the-Customs-and-Excise-Act.aspx Now click on "Part 1", ordinary customs duty http://www.sars.gov.za/AllDocs/LegalDoclib/SCEA1964/LAPD-LPrim-Tariff-2012-04%20-%20Schedule%20No%201%20Part%201%20Chapters%201%20to%2099.pdf Page 620 So it seems guys who haven't been charged the import duty aren't merely lucky, bikes imported from the EU attract no duty.
  22. Automatically excluded when you set your location to South Africa. They don't add back the SA VAT (or duties). That's for you to calculate yourself
  23. Are you certain you didn't just get lucky? Everywhere I've read it seems imported bikes incur the 15% duty in addition to 15% VAT.
  24. No, better if it's you. EU VAT rates are very high and as a ZA resident you can claim most of the VAT back at the airport. Your EU resident friend won't have this luxury, but then they don't need to pay the ZA VAT either.
