  1. Two weeks to go ,training  has been good ,picked up a small groin injury so took of the running the last few days seems to be ok now ,had a solid 950 km total ,and 54 hours of training in December.

so lets hope all goes well on the day its my third El and so hoping to brake the 6 hours barrier 2017 7:10 and 2018 6:39 , but as we all know 39 min is a shi"""""" load to take of .especially in east London.

can only hope to be strong on the day.

all the normal little things been sorted bike serviced, nutrition ,accommodation extra.......

traveling down on the 24th must say quiet exited.

all the best to all the hubbers participating save travels.

  2. For all those planning on  IMSA 2020 will notice that there is no date announced yet. It is always announced at the awards ceremony however not this time. If you wondering what the reason is, its because there has been a fall out with the municipality and our stupid anc coalition mayor who insists the event goes out for tender ??? Talk around town here is that the chances are high that 2019 might have been the last IM held here. They had to even payout SMME business a hefty amount to stop them from blocking the race this last weekend as they had threatened to do. IM Europe who we fall under and IMSA have had enough of there demands and ****. However negotiations are continuing and lets hope that sanity will prevail.

rumor has it IMSA is considering Morocco,do not know how true this is but were theirs smoke ,theirs fire

  3. Race number #1504

Hey Morne I see you are next to me. As the 3rd and 4th last bikes on the racks I’d say we are pretty lucky. I’m looking forward to a bike free 700m jog past all the congestion.

Hey @ndy yes was supersized to see my spot rite at the end felt a bit strange to be rite at the exit of transition probably the closest il ever get to being a pro and then no 0001 did not rack and there i was rite in front ,was a long 700 mt run in my socks .

  4. Race week and the drive down to Durban, same story for me, have not been in full training mode.

as i am also fighting the dreaded snot nose as i think the hole of Johannesburg is.

had a couple of good training sessions after IMSA and hope i can fall back on that.

as for drafting it is what it is there will always be people drafting in the age grouper times slots

i think the referees are more strict on the leading guys , but do agree with more motor bikes and less km to cover maybe there will be loads spending time in the penalty tents.

i try and keep to my own race on the bike leg and do not care if people draft ,what drives me insane is the came kazie pilots that over take you on the left when theirs hardly room for a mouse.

save travels to all the hubbers heading down to Durban enjoy and be save out there

what a awesome event ,my race report .

Always nice to arrive a few days before to take in the hole experience ,expo was decent

and registration no issues at all very organized and hassle free.

Went for a swim Friday morning to calm the nerves and get a feel for the sea

packed transition bags check and double check and then check again bit of ocd.

Bike check in Saturday afternoon and getting familiar with transition area iron man staff and volunteers were well organized as always

Race day morning i was happy i got some decent sleep in the Knight before and was ready for a long day to come ,one always work out what times you would like to get in the three disciplines but never know what the PE weather can throw at you on the day, standing in the swim shoot your hart rate starts to increase as the cannon goes of and in the back ground the cheers and the beat of imagine dragons whatever it takes playing ,goosebumps

swim was awesome swam over a phew people as usual self seeding start bit of a disaster but was happy with my time 1:21

Bike leg was tough as always dodged a phew people in the firs 10 km and bottles falling    out of bottle cages, first 90 km was good and turned at transition in 2:45 ,stopped at special needs to stock up on my nutrition and see some familiar faces and gave my wife lekker sweaty kiss i decided to push hard the next 45km to the turn around because i knew what was waiting for me on the way back last 20 km felt like for ever kept checking my watch to see if sub 6;00 was possible, the wind was pushing hard but i was almost there

drafting became a obvious sight with the wind picking up and i had a few people tuck in behind me ,asked a guy i could see behind me to please back of or come past three times but when i look around there he was sucking wheel ,needles to say a few km after i heard the reveries whistle and a yellow card for his effort

Came into transition and finished the bike leg in 5:56 was so chuffed wit a sub 6

Run o the run i am not a good runner but just stuck it out, firs 14 km went quickly and the support of the crowds and my wife and friends cheering me on helped so much got a bit dizzy and just took in more coke and it seemed to sort it out the long slog towards the harbor was a lonely place and all that motivates you is the next hear band that tells you its almost over double edged sword as you now also start thinking of all the hours of training and sacrifice is also now over ,was looking at my watch in total time and thinking if only i can puch harder i might brake 13;00 but the tank was empty and you see the minutes past by and realize it is what it is running down the red carpet is a unbelievable feeling and i wont change it for anything run 5:38

Total time 13:13:29   1H18 min faster than 2017 i was stocked tears in my eyes

There is so many people to thank they know how they are .

The human body is an incredible machine till 2019

Where the mind goes the body will follow

  6. #1228 for me this year ,,how awesome it will be to finish in a 12:28 yes in my dreams hehehe

training is going well ,this year considering i have  not actuality stopped since last year ,body is tiered but feeling stronger than ever before ,last pooch now less than a month to go 3 hard weeks

left and then the dreaded tapper week and traveling down to PE wondering if i did enough.tapering mind games .living in my own little ironman world at the moment staying away from people and resting up as much as possible early nights i mean my wife thinks i am nuts going to be at 20:00 can not wait to get my feet on that beach 15.04.2018

enjoy the last phew week of training  ladies and gents be save out there ,see you all in PE soon

WERE THE MIND GOES THE BODY WILL FOLLOW

  7. Min dae now, will be traveling down to Durban next week this time last big push this weekend

and then taper week , try to eat clean and hydrate and stay healthy Good luck to all athletes for

next Sunday enjoy and be safe out there.

  8. So what swim batch is everyone going to seed themselves in?

    Me back of 40min +

if all goes well 35-37 min swim for me so will try go of in the middle of the second 30min batch.

always find it to be duur mekaar anyway me swimming over people and people swimming over me i dont think people self seed in there proper times excitement gets the better of participants, and its go,go.go,go easy solution ironman should seed swimmers from previous race times and first timers start at the back

  9. hi sleepyeyed

This is my first 70.3...and I am very nervous, especially for the swim leg. How does pool times and ocean times compare. No ocean experience, only a few open water swims. And the cycling leg...the profile on ironman webpage says 1060 m ascent, but then everyone talks about a gentle easy cycle.....sounds like you are a local so please assure us that it is not too hectic!!!!

    Hi corinda

coming from a so so swimmer not the most experienced in the ocean ,i recon if you have done a phew open-water swims you will be OK ,getting in and out the surf is challenging on a ruff day but once you are in its very similar to open water ,a wet suit makes live much easier and the salt water gives you bit more buoyancy, the rolling start also make it less intense and settles the nerves,ad 10 min to your pool time for 1.9km and fall in with that time slot at the start good luck enjoy your race

  10. Hey Morne, yes it will make a massive difference even if the sea is calm, my swims at ushaka are always faster than snake park regardless of conditions.

hi thanks for your feed back nice coming from a local,at lees we guaranteed a swim .and not a very expensive duathlon.

  11. morning all, what do you guys recon the swim is going to be like swimming in the ushaka pier area compared to snake park beach ,will it relay make a big difference  if the see in on its head?

  12. I still dont get why they make the bike loop so messy, there must be an easier way for them to do it without creating that messy little bit at the end.

Seems this is turning into the beginner 70.3 for SA with no pros racing.

Still really want to do this one though.

you might have a point there, they might use us as Ginny pigs for the split transition ,before the pros return next year.

  13. yip and i am not where i wanted to be, training wise. So just going to go out and enjoy my 1st 70.3

Hope the rest of you are at least doing better in your training

the struggle is real also have the same feeling of not being were i should bee its been a long year took last week of and rested for 7 days hope to make up for it in the next 4 weeks.
