  1. awesome looking wheels rock. enjoy!
  2. i have one on my roof and wind noise is just part of the deal. you won't avoid with such an un-aerodynamic thing on your car. you can try to tape the underside of the roof racks to cover the slot to reduce some whistle. haven't tried it yet myself, so can't say how much it helps.
  3. Great pics Ronelle - thanks for sharing! Here are a few arb pics I took of yesterday's road race events: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3264/2687801439_e49d07a7cd_o.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3185/2687821187_2a4f6cc042_o.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3110/2688615594_9bf01c9306_o.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3124/2688616192_c1b69f536d_o.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3180/2687821935_6cd8d119cd_o.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3077/2687804955_792585774c_o.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3228/2687823719_7273792135_o.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3173/2688619742_b3eae9cc10_o.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3284/2688618740_a1a5b801ee_o.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3272/2687808675_f2de9c510d_o.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3207/2688637314_7d5980292c_o.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3099/2688638624_00521e351b_o.jpg
  4. since the knysna trails are usually better than riding the race, i went up a few days early to get some extra riding in. this is my brother and me on harkerville: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3027/2648756705_552fd24560.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3168/2648756807_f599d933c5.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3181/2648756459_3f3df8d7a5.jpg
  5. the geared version of this bike was reviewed in the June 08 issue of MBA. While they're not the last word in mtb reviews, they made some interesting observations: "The 69er 3x9 is a little bit of a frustration going downhill because there is no way for the rear wheel to match the performance of the front. The rear wheel smacks obstacles that the front wheel, milliseconds earlier, rolled over without breaking a sweat. This is true just cranking along a rocky trail. The front wheel doesn?t require you to pick the smoothest line. The rear wheel does.? Mountain bikes with twenty-six inch wheels have strengths and weaknesses that are different from the strengths and weaknesses of mountain bikes with 29-inch wheels. The 69er 3x9 was hopeful that by using the two wheel sizes together, the strengths would be magnified and the weaknesses would be muted. On the trail, that didn?t come true. Instead, a third reality occurred--a bike with strengths and weakness all its own." I don't expect 69er's to enjoy the same initial acceptance as 29er's. http://www.mbaction.com/ME2/dirmod.asp?sid=&nm=&type=news&mod=News&mid=9A02E3B96F2A415ABC72CB5F516B4C10&tier=3&nid=347504CDE9CA475680DAD861D41BEC7A
  6. the high kit prices is just another element of the team owners marketing plan. here's some background about the owner Michael Ball for those interested. http://www.usatoday.com/sports/cycling/2008-02-18-rock-racing_N.htm?csp=34 sell overpriced jeans, hire riders with shady pasts and arrive in a Escalade and you're going to generate some valuable publicity...
  7. Ti - are the Exiwolf's available locally? I used the 2' version in silly 26' format - good tyre tho.
  8. I just got some Specialized FastTrak LT (Low Knob) 29x2' tyres. Only ridden them a couple times in the dry, but they feel fast with good traction. Cornering feels great as loss of traction is controlled. I would rate them on the smaller side of 2' - not a very wide tyre. Would be a good for hardpack tho. I bought the standard foldable (not the '2bliss') and plan to convert with Stans shortly.
  9. Thanks Mampara No, not a cellphone - rock is having you on. Canon EOS 400D with 17-85 IS & 70-200L lenses.
  10. my brother toured france with this Bob Yak trailer which he said worked very well http://www.bobtrailers.com/trailers/trailer.php?product_id=10
  11. i remember the pictures :-)
  12. i did some touring in europe about 10 yrs ago. took a ferry from the UK to Holland to watch the prologue of the tour and then followed then for a couple days through holland, belguim and then I went on thru luxemborg and france. spent about 7 wks on the road and then i went a big crazy and needed a bit of social contact :-). i did it on my own and camped mainly in camp sites in the many small towns you find every day. incredible experience.
  13. I have a RaceFace Evolve XC crank with the X-Type external bottom bracket system. The last 2/3 times I've found the crank to be quite stiff but had to ride it anyway. It turns and there is no rough feeling or sound however but it's normal. I was wondering if anyone knows what it up before I get it sorted? I've used in for about 6 months. Thanks.
  14. AB out
  15. rock and i usually ride in tokai on a thurs evening, leaving at 7pm from the Reddam shopping centre parking lot. everyone welcome to join
  16. One Speed Wonders At the Absa Cape Epic, one of the overriding topics when it comes to ?tech talk?, is the discussion over lightweight versus full suspension bikes. There are many pros and cons for both. However, on the rocky climbs this year, dual suspension riders were reassured that they had made the right choice and hard tail users wished they could reverse theirs. Now imagine someone riding this bumpy route with no suspension at all, not even in the front and, to make it worse, using only one gear? A team at the 2007 Absa Cape Epic does just that. Team 23, One Speed Wonders, rides the entire race from Knysna to Lourensford on a single speed bike with no suspension at all. 46 year old Shaun Weber (RSA) from Cape Town and 49 year old Chris Wurster (USA) from New York, have never met before. The got in touch through the Absa Cape Epic online forum, when Shaun was searching for a partner for a single speed team. While Shaun prepared himself on coastal single trails for the Absa Cape Epic, Chris trained in Central Park during the week. To absorb the shocks experienced on the route, their bikes are equipped with fatter tyres that have less tread. Of course, they ride much slower than others, placing them between the 825th and 916th rank in the Men?s classification over the past seven stages, but they came to finish the race and not to win it.

  18. i would avoid it, especially on a quiet weekend day. 2 or 3 yrs ago, 3 guys tried to grab me and pull me off my bike. i just had a second or 2 to see them coming and was able to accelerate past them and throw a few elbows...
  19. it gives me more control & comfort. i switched to oversized cause the easton was flexing a little too much for me with the extra leverage i got out of the riser bar.
  20. i recently bought the anthem 1 and have been very happy. i fitted o/s riser bar & stem on, lock-on grips and changed tyres (hutch pirahna tyres wear out quickly and don't corner in loose conditions imo) there are other areas to upgrade but for those on a budget or who aren't fussed, it's a very good platform
  21. wow AuctionLamb - looks the business. enjoy it!!!
  22. anyone know what happened on the climb?
