  1. Was there today and did my first double loop. Only my third time there so only know the route out of the car park and that first climb is ***!
  2. Signed up, just need to buy a bike!
  3. Don't think Matt Holmes (author of the letter) did himself any favours, read the comments, most of them are telling him to put on his big girl panties. Had to chuckle at the guy who suggested that "perhaps a letter to Tim Berners Lee complaining about the advent of the internet" would be more apt!
  4. The chop should have passed on your left - simple
  5. The only extreme thing that exists in Potch is boredom - and hard rugby fields!
  6. Do you guys assist needy peeps in other parts of the country? https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/139845-i-want-to-help-a-14-year-old-looking-for-26er-mtb-please/
  7. Better than Northriding (Joeys) this morning where a motorcyclist and driver of a car went at each other. Guy on bike shot dead and driver of car rushed to hospital - not sure if shot or stabbed as news report said both were "armed". Crazy.
  8. "I just thank _@*%$ that motorist die at a rate of plus minus 2 an hour......and I smile every time I see a dead one lying there. Karma is a bitch." Statement of the year there Spinnekop - prize A chop!
  9. Think your dig at Cash Crusaders in this specific instance in somewhat unwarranted. Let's assume you wanted to sell that bike when you still had it in your possession - by your own admission you had no documentation linking the bike to you to confirm that you were the rightful/legal owner. What do you propose they and other sellers do when confornted with a similar situation? Best thing they could do is get a copy of the sellers ID (what are the odds it's real though) and provide that to police when this sort of thing happens. I am not saying they are not crooks (have no idea as I live in Joeys), but techinically a bit tricky
  10. Based on this article probably makes sense to keep it as a pub souvenier http://business.time.com/2012/10/18/the-straight-dope-is-lance-armstrong-memorabilia-worthless-now/
  11. Do what feels right!! That said, I have a cool pub in the new house so am trying to deck it out in a sports theme. I manged to secure a life size Zakumi mascot which is awesome. Unfortunately a flag signed by the Goose ended up in the bin by mistake - long story! If you want to sell drop me a pm. I think he is a douche but as Blackbeard said, it's an interesting artefact.
  12. Hope I don't bank where your mate works, doesn't look as though client confidentiality is high on their/his list of priorities.
  13. Still need blood and/or breathaliser (spelling?) - that is what they are there for. Any lawyer worth his salt would get this clown off, he could simply say he was buying his choms drinks. That combined with his testamony and his mates and the truck driver etc would make it very hard for insurance to repudiate claim. That said they do not like paying out so there is a chance of them making his life painful as they pay legal retainers so no skin off their nose by taking it to court to try their luck (bar clown's legal fees should he win).
  14. Insurance has no way of proving he was drunk. Would be his, the mates and the tow truck drivers word against the cyclist. The horse has bolted on this one unfortunately!
  15. "I try to call the woman who calls herself my wife" I like that descriptor
  16. Not sure I would be on the lookout for a bike before opening my car door is I was a passenger
  17. Surely just going to get worse with the tolls too, people using side roads
  18. I hear you. I think they are aware but don't care. I also read somewhere that a load of JMPD officers actually own taxis themselves so they have a conflict of interest. Take their taxis away however when they break the law then you will see things happen. This would be up to the prosecutors and judges to enforce, although they can only do their jobs if the cops complete the dockets correctly etc which they will not do if they have a vested interest. Maybe I am being too cycnical.
  19. Where are you cycling to?
  20. I thought that that was what my first post did - the law enforcers need to give some teeth to the rules of the road because if the rules are not enforced (which they are not) then there is no real deterent when one breaks them. I honestly believe that impounding the taxi's (if they are proven to be in the wrong) will have the desired effect. Although they should be doing that when they are found to be unroadworthy too. How to alert the authorities to this scourge is the problem as I don't believe they really care. Voting in the DA seems to be the only viable solution. That said we still need to see if they are able to enforce the 1.5m rule down there in Slaapstad.
  21. Who cares what he does - my guess would be the next cyclist knocked down by a lawless taxi driver. If you think that a mass protest is going to have an impact then go ahead and protest, I hope you are right. I do not share your sentiment however - simple.
  22. It seems however that no-one is ever held accountable - that is the point. What happened to the taxi driver in Burry's case?
  23. I still think that the 1.5m gap law means squat if it is not policed and there is no accountabilty when it is transgressed.
  24. I do not think a mass protest will achieve anything, except create more animosity towards cyclists. Do you honestly think that a taxi driver who sees the protest is going to drive any differently the following day - of course not. There needs to be some form of accountability ie swift prosecution asnd conviction with jail time and the taxi (or offending vehicle) being impounded for a year or so. Can you imagine a taxi boss losing a taxi for a year, trust me, he will make sure his drivers stay on the right side of the law as soon as it hits his pocket!! Same applies to Joe Soap ie you hit a cyclist and your car gets impounded for a year, you suddenly need to figure out a new way of getting to work. Taking a person's drivers licence away will not necessarily prevent someone from driving but if they have no means to drive then they are screwed are they not?
