  1. That's why my Xylitol is still unopened - trying to kick the sweet tooth habit/craving
  2. Looks like I need to cut down on my Woolies Dbl Cream Greek yoghurt!
  3. Not entirely sure what happened to my above post as my reply does not seem to factor. In response to the question about sweetners - I just bought Xylitol ("Sweet Nothings" is the name of the brand - Google it) at Woolies - yet to try it but only comes in at 4g carb per tsp which isn't that bad.
  4. I am positive that all the help/advice you so freely dispensed with in this thread will be rewarded with an ever better position than your previous one. Holding thumbs!
  5. Hi tombeej Curious as to why cooking with olive oil is bad - does the heat cause some sort of molecular change (or something of the like) - as I predominantly use olive oil when cooking? Also the cutting of diary, I know milk has loads of carbs/sugar so I pretty much stick with cream. What is the problem with cheese and yoghurt? Is Noakes book not already out, I am pretty sure I have a magazine at home which reviewed the book - will double check this evening and report back. I also have a question on micronutrients - currently I am taking 1 pharmaton tablet (multi vit) plus a magnesium supplement (2 tabs of ultimag) and 1 capsule of salmon oil (omega 3) - is that overkill?
  6. Possible but doubtful in my view - maybe I'm just a cynic! Either way looks like I ain't doing either!
  7. No ways!! Some very inventive and talented people/cooks out there - long may they live!!!
  8. How does one make a low carb pizza - I would be a very happy man with that info
  9. Based on the value of a large portion of the cars parked at NF every weekend one would assume that a lot of people would be in the upper brackets of this poll. Note I use the word should as a car is not an true indication of wealth i.e. credit. Still cannot fathom why one would want to lie on an anonymous poll. Truly odd.
  10. Just curious - everyone is refering to LCHF and Paleo but not Atkins. Is that because the latter does not really focus on athletic performance?
  11. DaleE, you say that "where you are trying deliberately to get the body into a state of ketosis carbs are even more strictly controlled, including the timing and macronutrient ratio of each and every meal, sources of fats, supplements, etc." Would you mind elaborating, as I simply eat what I feel like i.e. this morning had steak for breakkie and will probably have an omlette for dinner. I simply look at my daily intake. If I want to be in ketosis do I need to eat something specific at every meal?
  12. Poor form in my view i.e. Sani is fully booked, oh but wait, if you fork out for this race there is suddenly space!
  13. 05 June 2013 Dear Rider In appreciation of you placing your faith in us I have decided to guarantee all intact teams completing dusi2c 2013 the opportunity to take up an entry for Nedbank sani2c 10th event next year. Simply, this means that any team who has been on the Nedbank sani2c waiting list and has now decided to ride dusi2c will be given an opportunity to enter when entries open for sani2c 2014. This is our way of thanking you for your support. To enter dusi2c click here We look forward to having you there. Kind Regards, Farmer Glen Glaw Haw
  14. Dave you raise an interesting point. I am still in the very early stages of this diet so I am in effect acting as the family guinea pig! That said, in 6 months time if this diet works for me as it has done for most of you I still do not believe that I would put my kids on it. The question to myself then is, what is this saying about LCHF. Is there still a lingering concern due to the past 30 years indoctrination regarding low fat diets - hell yes. Maybe after being on the diet for 6 months I will be a true convert and recommend to all and sundry. On the other hand - I ate zarmies, sweets, Oros, nesquick etc as a kid and was in good nick and played multiple sports at provincial level. As Noakes said, if you are not carb resistant and doing just fine on your current diet why change. That is the view I will adopt with my kids, just worried that the carbs in childhood/adolescence may eventually lead to carb resistance. Whole lot to digest and consider!
  15. Happy Martin, my view is do whatever works for you (as stated several times in this thread). If I could get away with eating pasta, ice cream, sweets and Coke and not notice any marked difference I would be a very happy man. My missus can do that but I cannot. I am only in week 3 of the LCHF diet but am already 5 kgs down so this does appear to be the solution for me (touch wood). Also feeling good.
  16. Evidence that you should not believe everything you read. These pearls of wisdom were sprouted by News24's Diet Doctor! http://www.health24....ign=Newsletters Myth #3: Eating carbohydrates makes you fat. This is really an amazing statement. Carbohydrates, including sugar, contain 16kJ (4kcal) per gram. If they contain dietary fibre, their energy content is even further reduced. Fat, on the other hand, contains 37kJ (9kcal) per gram – a whopping difference. So if you approach dieting logically, it makes more sense to reduce your fat intake and to continue eating high-fibre carbohydrates.
  17. An udder tit....
  18. Would be great if same happened here - only downside being that we would all be poor!
  19. Milan - Bikes are outselling cars in cash-strapped Italy, but while cyclists in Milan say their city is ready for a two-wheel lifestyle, there are daily nuisances for riders on Rome's busy streets. Some cities in Italy have bike-sharing initiatives, bike paths and public awareness schemes, while cyclists are still barely tolerated in others. Giulietta Pagliaccio, head of the Italian Federation of Friends of the Bicycle, said: "The economic crisis has had repercussions for everyone, including in transport. "There's been a small revolution in terms of lifestyle. "We have seen a lot of people who have re-discovered this means of transport because it's ease, it's simplicity, its speed for short distances... " she said. There were 2 000 more bicycles sold than cars in Italy in 2011 - a differential that rose to more than 200 000 units last year, according to figures from an association of biking businesses and the transport ministry. The car sector has been hit by what the head of auto giant Fiat, Sergio Marchionne, dubs "Carmageddon" - with a 20% drop in sales in 2012. Pagliaccio said Rome was a particularly "difficult" city for cyclists and that in general conditions were worse in the southern half of the country, with poorer quality roads and few bicycle paths. Benefits She said mentalities were beginning to change, except for a few motor die-hards "who would drive from their bedroom to the kitchen if they could" - but that politicians remained "very behind" in terms of bike-friendly policies. "They are afraid of losing votes. "It's terrifying since everything is done in this perspective, without a long-term urban vision," she said. Piero Nigrelli, head of bicycles of an association of biking businesses, said it was "breathtaking to what point politicians lack awareness of the bicycle's value". He said Germany boasts about seven million cycling tourists a year who generate €9bn in turnover and only "a modest investment in bike paths" would be needed to bring such benefits to Italy. In the Italian capital, those who use existing routes complain of daily trials, from junk strewn across the paths, to stretches along the riverbank which periodically flood and in one case a path blocked by a sprawling Roma camp. Famed for its annual Giro d'Italia bike race, Italy has yet to embrace bicycles as a form of transport, though a "Bikemi" bike-sharing scheme in Milan has been enthusiastically received by locals and sales in foldable models are on the up. Specialist shops in the economic capital have begun stocking bikes specifically designed for urban life, such as the British Brompton model, which folds up neatly and has a handle so it can be pulled along like a suitcase. The world's oldest bicycle-making company, Bianchi, famed for kitting out biking champions such as Fausto Coppi, has branched out into electric bicycles to meet a growing demand from Italians keen to swap four wheels for two. "Customers are asking now for high-range commuter models...they are looking for a long-term investment that supports the idea that they are turning away from the car," said Bob Ippolito, head of Bianchi. Commuter bikes are now the company's fastest selling models - up 35% last year - which is partly because some customers "instead of having two cars, now prefer to have a car and a bicycle", he said.
  20. Thanks DaleE, point noted! It's answers like these that make me so bleak we lost the original thread, so much valuable info. I do have it saved in Word format but still not the same. Anyway, onwards and upwards - this LCHF version 2 thread is on it's way to matching its predecessor!!
  21. My copy of Phinney & Volek arrived today - chuffed!
  22. I am busy reading Atkins and see they measure Carb intake by means of a "Net Carb" system which is basically Total Carbs less the Dietary Fibre (as fibre is not as fast acting as Carbs). What are your guys/girls views on this? I am taking the more conservative approach and using Total Carb value. I suppose however that this is how they get people to stay under 20g in the Induction Phase.
