  1. YES for me it is one or the other. Reach goal weight then focus on building muscle.
  2. I had to call in sick and tell my boss I am becoming fat adapted and now have carb flu.
  3. Thank you for all the info and advice on this thread. Been following fat adaptation recommendations as well as IF for a week. Results have been great but carb flu and no power during exercise is a real thing.
  4. When I played rugby for my local club, I felt like a crusader. I had to run straight at the defending team expecting to get tackled and also to get across the advantage line. Sometimes it felt like running into a door.
  5. I respectfully disagree. This was the 2nd dooring incident on main road that I am aware of in the last couple of months. The first one in December happened here and I was on scene with paramedics and the fire brigade. Happened around 11h00 on Sunday, 1 December 2024
  6. Interesting technique suggested in this article: if you lean into the car whose door is opening, you can also attempt to slow yourself down before you make impact with the door https://bayareabicyclelaw.com/5-helpful-safety-reminders-for-cyclists-who-ride-in-the-city/ Deciding to purchase a firearm and preparing for an eventuality is a choice and mindset. My opinion is the same principle applies here.
  7. I was not recommending training! It is a judgement call you may have to make in a split second on your bike or in your motor vehicle. You have clearly become hostile in this discussion so I am not going to engage anymore. Thank you for the detail about the actual accident. I feel very bad for what happened to the cyclist and like others I am feeling very weary about my next ride.
  8. It is not ridiculous to keep going straight based on your judgement call
  9. Would you swerve for a pedestrian or wildlife in your motor vehicle?
  10. I agree 100% You also can't just switch off and enjoy the view. You must anticipate and slow down. I am especially aware of trucks and 4x4's towing boats and just let them go in front on narrow roads. The main road is not for setting a PR.
  11. @MikePosthumus and Matt are so fast up there nobody will be able to stop them and do any mugging. I am so slow up there that I am a sitting duck. Also no cellphone reception on Vodacom so take your Sat phone...
  12. This is why I keep coming back to this bloody website 🤣
  13. I have been getting back into the sport after 2 kids and bought this in December. Great advice. Been all over Tokai and up the Mast with it... Great buy and Gear Change folks are the best!
  14. Gemsbok/Eland looks pretty dangerous in Banhoek Conservancy
  15. Almost traffic free sounds perfect. Had a near miss with a Double Flatbed on Constantia Main and also a massive Grow Truck on Southern Cross.
  16. I have recently moved to Tokai and started riding the different trails / routes in the area. I want to try Tokai to Newlands Forrest via Constantia Nek. Any advice or route maps for which route to ride and be safe would be very much appreciated. My biggest concern is the route back from Newlands Forrest to Tokai. Was considering up Rhodes drive and then down Diep River trail.
  17. In fact the Apple Watch is currently the benchmark for wrist-based devices, at least between all of the main stream devices that we have measured The goal was to measure the accuracy of various wrist-worn optical heart rate monitors Nothing beats a Garmin and a HR Strap though
  18. The wind this year was gnarly!
  19. As somebody who once cycled a lot around melkbos, people use to call me a pedalphile
  20. For the audiophiles - https://www.cplanaudio.co.za/collections/headphones/products/audio-technica-ath-msr7-black-2
  21. Lot's of Garmin 5X Pluses going on sale...
  22. I give a Neutral rating for this. Add some comments, be a gentleman.
  23. A 90K go kart is also a possibility! Small investment if we can move to Monaco one day
  24. Slick!
  25. I saw such a small boy at the park yesterday on a tiny pedal bike. He was ripping it up with a proper kids MTB helmet on his tiny head. Looks like anything is possible.
