  6. Yes and nobody knows why. I hope it's not what I'm thinking.
  7. Jip its just the uppers that is looking a bit worse for wear :-)
  8. I like the "Alan Effect". I go as hard as I can for as long as I can and then I just hold on. I try and cover a much distance as I can on fresh legs and then I just mentally hang in there. After say 5hrs everyone suffers. The difference is that I will be further up the road with less distance to complete. P.s. Don't ever listen to me cause I'm also still running with the same minimalist running shoes I bought in 2012.
  9. :-D I love cycling but the sad thing is that I think I might actually be a better runner
  10. Entered and I'm going for silver. This will be my 2nd comrades. Did my 1st in 2013 and ran a 08H20. I don't think I did more than 50km running per week. Most of my training was for MTBiking. What killed me was the downhill running. I walked the downhills. My focus will be downhill training.
  11. Thats not MAXXIS IKON tires on that bike
  12. Anyone know where I can locally source a 15 mm thru-axle for Chinese carbon rigid fork. It has to include the nut and bolt.
  13. Manenberg !!! Nice and central for both Northern and Southern suburbs routes. Or come to Bellville and CY.
  14. You should be able to get it from any of the Omnico dealers seeing that they are the distributors: http://www.omnico.co.za/find-a-dealer/14-western-cape
  15. Lost 40 kgs and now weighing 65kgs.
  16. I never knew about carb-cycling and thanks for sharing. I honestly feel that it (carb-cycling) is what will work best for me. I've finally reached my goal weight and I look forward to tweaking my carb intake so that I can maximize my training and racing. Its is because of Banting that I was able to reach my goal weight but I'm not planning on vilifying carbs. I found banting to be the most sustainable Low Carb diet. Low Carb NOT NO CARB. For me it's about finding the balance and getting in the correct carbs at the right time.
  17. I'm exploring the timing of when I eat Carbs for high intensity training and racing. I'm already pretty close to my target weight so now I can start experimenting. I can't see being able to RACE at the level I do even if I was fat adapted. I need the carbs. I do think that following a LCHF diet off the bike does make my body use the carbs better. But I'm stilling exploring what works for me.
  18. Awesome read: http://www.active.com/nutrition/articles/do-low-carb-high-fat-diets-sap-performance
  19. I don't believe so. I feel stronger but that could be because I am well rested. What I also find is that I eat less when I don't train. I don’t do full on Banting. I bant when I’m off the bike but I race High Carb. During training I use to mainly train low carb as well but I find that causes me to eat too much food afterwards. I’m now tweaking my eating so that I make sure that I fuel enough for my training (carbs). In effect I lose weight in the kitchen and not on the bike. That will also enable me to get in quality training.
  20. I experienced the very same effect. And now that I'm back on the straight and narrow it seem to have enabled me to drop past my previous low where I was stuck :-O
  21. Kevin is not teaming up with DG. And DG is eligible for Epic because he got his ban prior to the Epic changing the rules.
  22. Can we please get the details for the next event published? I believe it is happening tomorrow evening.
  23. Hi, I'm looking for a 2015 Cape-Epic partner. I have already secured an entry and I’m looking for someone who can split the cost. I’m 40 years old and therefore qualify to race in the Masters Category. Realistically I would like to aim for a Top 80 finish Overall but secretly I wish I can go top 50 J Some race history: 2014 Trans Karoo 240 MTB race – 25th Overall 2013 Bridge Cape Pioneer Trek - 11th Solo Category Completed 5 Attakwas Ultras and my best time was 06h19 2013 MTN Ultra’s (Tulbagh and Gravel Travel) I’m also already entered for the 2014 Bridge Cape Pioneer trek and the 2015 Attakwas that will form part of my training towards the 2015 Cape Epic. If you are interested then please pop me an email rodneypedro@gmail.com. Also please pop over to my blog (http://pedroracing.co.za/) if you want to get a better idea of who I am. My blog is not very up to date but you will get the idea. Cheers Rodney
