  1. On a platform where people buy and sell there are crazy low offers made all the time, no matter what the item for sale is - endless 3rd party discussions on the character of the peoples involved achieves nothing and the practise will continue all over the world as it has before.
  2. Bike advertised at X price. Potential buyer offers 50% less than X price. Why is this even an ongoing topic?
  3. My partner and I, along with with 3 other mates from South Africa bought these exact Triban 120 bikes in Bari, Italy and rode them all the way up to Venice which was approx. 1000km and there were no bike issues at all and only one puncture between us. We then sold them quickly on Facebook marketplace in Venice. We will probably buy the same bikes again from Decathlon in Joberg.
  4. agree, agree - to the point that plenty of cyclists are super important people cos check my bike and kit out!
  5. Totally agree. Swimming has been a game changer for me. 62 y.o. back has come almost right with swimming.
  6. Totally agree. Played golf my whole life. Im in my early 60s now, and took up cycling about 7 years ago and never for a second thought it would have as many "look at me and how important I am" type people riding bicycles! Quite weird at first because I always thought golfers were king of that pile. And it's definitely getting worse as the years go on.
  7. It's an observation and is one of the reasons the CTCT is becoming less of a big event every year. No more sold out entries way before the time and certainly no more 35 000 riders. Still might be fun for some but not so much for many.
  8. The arrogance and self importance of the first few alphabet groups makes it unpleasant. This is getting steadily worse. Guys seem to think they will land a contract with a team if they go under 3 hours. Get a grip - much more pleasant atmosphere in triathlons or riding one day events in Europe.
  9. I will way more be inclined to follow the exploits of a charismatic legend than a robotic 24 hours a day on the job one devoid of any character like most of the top guys in any sport these days.

    Scam Alert

Yip the opinionated/smug people love to comment and it's def getting worse. Anyway thanks for the heads up re this guy.
  11. More confirmation that SA judicial system is as totalled as the rest of the sorry circus - especially in the light of that footage.
  12. Im also 1C - if the weather is good , is sub 3 possible? What % of 1C group normally would do a sub 3 in decent conditions?
  13. Going for a ride wherever - its normal perform a risk evaluation of the ride prior to setting out - time of day, people riding group, day of week, previous incidents, effective neighbourhood watches etc Some people have vastly different views on where is safe. Personally Ive been many times all over Lavender Hill on a scooter, road bike and car. Never had an incident and will probably go many more times. Its not stupid to differ from your outlook of risk.
  14. This is what is happening more and more. The frog in the boiling water in full swing. Def not the victim being stupid and/or asking for trouble!
  15. Ive got a Bikesafe box. Been using it for years and travelled plenty with it when I worked I the Middle East. Solid, cheap, lockable and simple to pack my road bike. Don't even need to remove handle bars, saddle, peddles. Cost is probably less than half of the show off "look at my expensive bike box"versions that are marketed as the only viable option.
  16. Couldn't agree more. Lots of important sounding people here that know plenty but not much to do in their lives.
  17. A heads up for anyone wanting to ride classic climbs in Europe with no crowds as well as safely and cheaply - Montenegro is unbelievable! Ive been here for the whole summer and some the rides are breathtaking. Almost weird how the average Joe flocks to the Pyrenees and Alps to ride with the crowds, spend crazy money (in SA Rand terms) on accommodation and food. This scenery will astound the Instagram brigade as well. Highly recommended plus can enter here on a saffa passport with a valid Schengen, UK, USA or Canadian visa.
  18. That hill outside Elands can be a brute if the wind is blowing, which it often is. Ive cycled over there a few times.
  19. Ive travelled from South Africa to many different countries and back in the last ten years with my bikes and have never declared a bike when leaving here and have never been charged duties of any sort on my return. Good idea to buy it there - many bargains all over the place outside of SA.
  20. what about the science and all those cases - lets not take a chance
  21. Im in 1B and don't reckon Im up to a sub 3. Are the seedings different this year due to the decreased numbers? (I never did the ride last year.) Better for me to possibly start 1C maybe?
  22. So many different reports re this event. Plenty bucks to fork out - is it worth it? Has anyone done this before?
  23. Black hill descent into Clovelly?
  24. I had a totally broken top tube and seat stay after a freak accident where I rode into a grid on a bridge - the steel bars of the grid were about 40mmm apart but aligned parallel to my travelling direction! CBR repaired both the breaks, resprayed the whole bike two new colours and rebuilt the bike. It now not only looks like a brand new bike but rides like it did when it was brand new as well. Fantastic quality workmanship and attention to detail.
  25. Im definitely not in denial regarding Covid. Im simply pointing out a freely available statistic to try and illustrate the risk of Covid fatalities as it affects the various age groups. In fact I am possibly more at risk than most people on this forum. (Im 60 y.o.) I have not contracted Covid myself but used the stats as a source of comfort to myself and my Mom (aged 83) when she contracted it a few months ago. Obviously I would not like to inform orphaned kids whose parents have both died as a result of Covid that they are a small percentage. The same would apply to kids who have lost both parents in any other type of tragic event. Yes - taking part or attending any event with many people during the time of ever changing government disaster management protocols is a risk.
