I used to have Oakleys - but after bad service and a pretty much we don't care about you "little man" attitude, I said up yours and now use adidas... no matter how cool oakleys look, I won't ever buy them again... ever!

I think you'd be able to get a set of 2nd hand Easton EA70's for that price... or new EA50's (R2.9k new on buycycle.co.za). Easton's are my "intermediate" wheels and i think they are really great value for money. let us know what you decide on getting B)

Hey Amoryns - gravel section ws +- 1.8km long... I just had some red dust on my frame (nothing hectic). There weren't much loose stones, I'd say is more of a slightly bumpy dusty road than an out and out gravel road.

These are really awesome pics Ronelle. Do you have a website where we can view more pic's? I was in the same group as Bos, and spent my fair share of time at the front of the bunch - so I'm hoping there's a pic of that

I know there are some reasonably priced road bikes at CWC (not online, the actual store)... that are very well spec'd. Especially for the price range you are shopping in...

Helloise - I've bought from them recently, and never had any hiccups. Don't write them off just yet... I'm sure there's a valid reason why things seem a bit "deurmekaar" at the moment. It is however very strange that there prices do not not agree - R1750 vs R1080 is a BIG difference!

Ahoi Joey - I'm personally going to be using my set of treasured Mavic Cosmic SLR Carbones... light and 53mm deep, clinchers. Oh, and they look beautiful on my stead B)

I think it's the driver of the kombi's fault for not seeing the pothole... when I used to do motorpacing down the Bottelary my old man used to keep his eyes fixed on the road ahead of him to make sure there were no bricks, potholes or other debris lying in our path... and if there was anything lying in the road he would move over slightly as I was to stick to right half of the bumper... And I'm sure he would have had a good laugh if he looked in the rear view mirror to see me k@king off on my trackbike... So if you are going to do motorpacing make sure you got someone in the car who knows what they are doing! my 2c

I believe it's still gravel - rode on it last week Thursday... and it's all gravel...

The only problems I've ever had with bom's was when I went to Iron Man and they scan your bike at the airport, and want to know what the metallic rounds tube things were... How do you say it's a bom, but not a bom bom without them locking you up or the security getting agitated All cleared up when i explained it it actually a CO2 canister and a bomb with a silent "b"... eish!
