  1. The general feeling I am getting is that you need to stay away from these bikes. It is a shame because I really like them.
  2. The problem is that your stuffed if you buy it second hand.
  3. That is what is worrying me. Does anyone now how Scott's warranty work?
  4. Does any body know more about problems with MC farme?s cracking around the chain stay pivot weld and seat tube welds? <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> There are also rumors about problems with the pull shock(leakage and lockout not working)? Sound like it is easy fixed though. As anybody have problems with their carbon MC/RC frames?
  5. Looks more like a 2003 than a 2004. http://www.bikepedia.com/QuickBike/BikeSpecs.aspx?Year=2003&Brand=Giant&Model=NRS+2&Type=bike
  6. I know the feeling.
  7. That I can't answer for you. For the same price you can get a NEW Giant Yokon FX or Mongoose Otero Super. You are starting to see Quit nice full susser between R8000 and R10000.<?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> The next MBR <?: prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />UKon> magazine will be testing most of the entry level full suspension bike and I am really looking forward to find out what they think about them. Check MTBR.com for reviews of the 2004 NRS 2. If I only had R5000 (I have less) and I was looking full suspension bike I would be seriously consider it.
  8. Older version: http://www.bikepedia.com/QuickBike/BikeSpecs.aspx?Year=2004&Brand=Giant&Model=NRS+2&Type=bike Newer: http://www.bikepedia.com/QuickBike/BikeSpecs.aspx?Year=2005&Brand=Giant&Model=NRS&Type=bike
  9. It is the older version. Here is the same bike for R5000 https://www.bikehub.co.za/forum_posts.asp?TID=25606&KW=nrs
  10. I ride a very old hardtail frame that was build when 1.95 tires pumped nice and hard to eliminate snake bites was the norm. They go like mad on hard pack but kill you on the grassy bumpy bits. If you?re riding a FS bike it isn?t problem but a hard tail is another story. <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> So to increase comfort I went and got the largest volume tire that fit in my frame. The problem is that tire sizing is misleading. WTB and a few other manufactures tried to fix this a few years back but the standard was not wholly accepted. They proposed a double measurement consisting of the tire volume width and maximum width. For tire with very small nobblys (like the Small block 8 and some of the Botagers) the measurement may be the same. Have a look at WTB website. Most manufactures do however state an ISO standard size on the side wall. http://www.sheldonbrown.com/tire_sizing.html Which give you the maximum width and rim size. But it still causes confusion in that you can get a 2.1? Maxxis Larsen TT with 52mm width and a 2.1 Kenda SB8 that is 54mm. Or in my case I am running a Mountain King 2.2? with a 55mm width. And if your after maximum volume for comfort the Mountin King and Small Block 8 may even have about the same volume even though the MK is wider, due to the smaller blocks of the SB8. 11. In PTA talk to Epic cycles. The sould be getting in a couple of Cannondales.
  12. Talking about the Dale Rize, looks like on sweet bike. I see MTBR just gave the Prophet 10/10 in their trail bike test and 9/10 for the Meta 5.5. BB. If I can find a Specialized Epic frame with V-brake bosses I will consider it purely due to the fact that it will look good hanging next to my <?: prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Roubaix. <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> Ox_Wagon2008-05-09 03:11:54
  13. GoLefty, I am a big fan of single pivot designs especially the Santa Cruz Superlight. But I must also admit a soft spot for virtual pivot bikes.
  14. Well said. You can also add maintenance. The more links in the system the more bearings you have to worry about. That is the beauty of single pivot frames but you must know that you sacrificing performance for simplicity.
  15. There is a nice pic of the bike in the new Bicycling mag. If I remember correctly the basic lay out was used in the early 90ties on the Specilized Stumpjumper. The one thing I do not like about any layout with the shock at the back of the seat tube (Bianci, Scott etc) is that the shock is in the direct path of all gunk that is thrown up from the rear wheel. It may be a good idea to copy Orbea?s solution of a small mud guard to protect the shock.
  16. Same here.
  17. Thanks hubbers it was really nice and looooooong day. Thanks especially to the Vito crowd. I felt like a pro cyclists although nobody wanted to lend me a fresh set of legs or performance enhancing drugs. <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> I like the route but I must say the section between Bapsfontein and Delmas was scary and the pic of us cresting the hill with the truck in the back ground really sums it up nicely. I don?t know what one can do to make the race a bit safer. Ox_Wagon2008-03-31 00:27:56
