  1. It is about the bolting diameter. It allows you to run a smaller inner chain ring (34/36). To confuse things, you do get 52 chain rings for compact cranks and if you really want throw a spanner in the work it is the same bolting diameter as the old ?non-compact? MTB cranks. I had one on my Mongoose. <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
  2. I agree with AfriqueduSud. If your want to do a <?: prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Marathon do it this year. (Not a lot to choice from after Comrades) and it will purely be a mental thing that you know that you have done one. <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> While in the thick of training next year it will cause more damage than it worth by increasing the risk of injuries. Stick to 32 km races.
  3. They use a 110 BCD bolting diameter instead off 130BCD for Shimano etc and 135BCD for campy.<?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
  4. Go compact, if you?re not a cocaine fueled sprinter the top end loss of speed should not be a problem. <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> PS: They are lighter too.
  5. If you haven?t run a marathon yet try to do one. Here in <?: prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Gauteng I think there is only the Soweto (which I don?t really like) early in November and if you decide against it run the Though One 32km. It is usually the weekend after the 94.7. <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
  6. Good advise. I folded on the swim so sort your swimming and save your self a lot of disappointment. Swimming is a skill sport and the normal way of doing more miles (Running/Cycling) does not work for it. <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> Have a look at Total Immersion or get some help from a good Triathlon/Open-water Coach. http://www.totalimmersion.co.za/
  7. Looks like good value for money. I Like there VVP full sussers.
  8. You get different Rib Cages. There is the one with the rubber thingy keeping the ribs together and the newer one with out it. There is also a MTB version, wider with more ribs. Which one did you have spidy?
  9. Go talk to your LBS, Road cycling is dieing. Some of the LBS has started to cut back on their road consumables like tire because they are not moving the stock. Some shops are going over to MTB only shops. Check how long it takes to sell Road bike stuff on the hub. <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> MTBKing, I was hoping for something faster but then again a donkey kart IS a lot faster than a ox wagon.
  10. Wow,, BB your to fast. But then agian the commuting IS a lot of fun. I must say the weight is also slowly falling away. I may have to start thinking of changing may user name to something a bit faster than a OXwagon.
  11. One of these day it will become a Commuting forum Ox_Wagon2008-06-09 06:44:02
  12. I have a FSA Gossamer compact (175mm) that works fine with 9 or 10 speed. I currently using with 9 speed shimano and I also have used it with 9 speed campy. Ox_Wagon2008-06-06 08:35:25
  13. Polar 625x because I also "run" But please don't tell any Hubbers. I will deny it.<?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> Polar just replaced my whist unit with out me asking for it, after some water leaked in to it. That is after a year and a half of hard work. I am really impressed.
  14. Sorry to disappoint you Dirt-Rider. I going for the whole Neanderthal look. If there was Velcro on the inside of the legwarmers I would not have any problems.
  15. I will have a look at the Pro's
  16. I need someting to stop my toes from getting frost bite. And is only going to get colder.
  17. I have Anatomic's (large) with grippers, the works, and they sit quite tight but the still drifts down as I ride. I tried them with an oooold set of cycling shorts and normal (non-cycling) baggy shorts. Maybe they just too big. I still have to try them with my Capestorm bib. Ox_Wagon2008-06-06 03:17:39
  18. <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> How to you keep leg warmer from sliding down the whole time. Are they to big? Let get two of the most obvious answers out of the way. Suspenders and ?You need to train more so that you don?t have chicken legs?. I have to add that I am wearing baggies. I am try to go for the whole grunge, ride through winter, British MTBer look but only achieving the halve defrosted chicken look instead.
  19. What Neoprene shoe cover would you recommend? <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
  20. I will be very happy if I get $300 for my Opel
  21. Trade your car for a bike, cash 05/06/2008 14:02 - (SA) <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> <?: prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Ottawa - Canadaon> launched an incentive programme on Wednesday to rid its roads of old gas-guzzling cars and trucks, urging citizens to trade them in for free bicycles, bus passes, or $300 cash. The National Vehicle Scrappage Programme will offer these incentives to people who retire their 1995 or older model vehicles, and hopefully turn to more environmentally-friendly transportation, the government said. "We know Canadians want to do their part to help clean up the air we breathe," Environment Minister John Baird said. "That's why we are launching a national programme to get Canadians' smog-causing gas-guzzlers off the road." Of the 18 million cars and trucks on Canadaon>'s roads, about five million were manufactured before 1996, when tougher emissions standards were introduced. These pre-1996 models produce about 19 times more air pollutants than newer cars and trucks, said Baird. And although they make up less than one-third of vehicles on the road, older cars generate as much as two-thirds of the smog-forming pollutants caused by personal vehicle use, he said. The government has committed $92m over four years to implement the programme, which is to be run by a national not-for-profit organisation. A rebate on the purchase of a new car or a membership in a car-sharing programme will also be offered as incentives. http://www.news24.com/News24/Technology/News/0,,2-13-1443_2335071,00.html Where do I apply!
  22. The <?: prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Netherlandson> was unregulated when I was there in 1998. And petrol was around R8-R7 a liter. You could get cheaper petrol at the out of the way petrol station and it was typically the most expensive at UltraCity type petrol stations. Then again you did not need a car. Between the bus and train services you could get most places AND they have proper bike path system. In the 7months that I was there I hire a car once. <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> While we are into conspiracies ?You have to realize that oil prices will stay high while the USon> is trying to fund their war?. Saw a good joke just after the USon> invaded which showed a certain president pointing to a flip board saying ?We have 710 reasons to invade?. An aid then interrupts him sayings ?Sir, the flip board is the wrong side up? I started commuting by bicycle this week, and as Konafan says it is a lot more effort, organization and slep but you save a lot of money and you get a real good work out. As I said before I think the high petrol price will do more promoting cycling in ZA than any group. Talking of which, now we just need to get ?our? well loved CSA on board to promote cycling safety. PS: Is there still people waiting for the licences?
  23. Car driver live in denial. Cars are designed that the occupants "should" survive a "controlled" crash up to 80km/h anything over that you?re taking your chances. So there is this false sense of safety that isn?t a true reflection of reality. The thing that upsets me the most is parents that allow there children to be loss in the car. Those children are worst of in an accident than somebody on a motor cycle. <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> As a father of two small children I have a limit the amount risk I am prepared to take. I really don?t like riding on my road bike for that reason. And if I have to I limit it to saver routes. There are certain routes that I now longer ride and there are also races that I will not do again due to traffic and dangerous bunches. I decided to see if commuting to work was an option. I using my MTB, with nobblys, so I can ride on the dirt shoulder on the sections that are a bit dodgy and also on the pavement where possible. I also ride with a loud reflective fest and must say it made a huge difference. I must say it makes a nice start to the day. I will still have a look at different routes that may be a bit slower but away from the high volume/high speed roads.
  24. BIG PROBLEM the shifters and derailers will have diffrent ration to the rest of Shimano's stuff.
  25. So when is it going to Cycle art to be repainted as a Cannonbale?
