  3. Hi guys I just bought a 2nd hand 2005-ish aluminium Scott road bike with pretty decent components, for an intern(English for underpaid slave). This kid is fit and keen to learn and has arranged a payment plan with me. Things is, we got it for a good price because it has a hairline crack on the frame where the stem goes through to the fork. It looks benign but we need to weld it to make it safe. Problem is who can I trust not to ruin the bike and turn it into an expensive parts bike. Thanks
  4. When and where can I get hold of a scott spark or scale 700 frame
  5. Pse help new into road riding, bought this carbon scott but the owner couldn't tell me what model scott it is? He thinks it is a 2009? I also have no idea of value. I put the Easton's on bought 2nd hand from a friend ( he's also not sure what it is) as it came with Scott wheels . It's has full tiagra which is as new. Hope someone can tell from the pics. It's was apparently yellow and black originally . Any help would be much appreciated .
  6. My Scott Spark Pro comes with a Sram Carbon S-2210 GXP PF, Carbon crankarm, 38Ax24A T. is this a re-branded X0?
  7. Friend of mine's was nicked in Potch last night. Will get more details but should be a small size 29'er. Please be on the lookout and let me know if you spot one somewhere or for sale looking dodgy. Thanks, WW.
  8. Top of my shopping list at the moment. Any positive/negative feedback? Any other in the same price range worth considering? http://www.scott-sports.com/global/en/products/234016008/bike-scale-935-l/
  9. Hi guys Search skills didn't find anything on here about this so i hope it hasn't been discussed before, if so , sorry. I am running a 172.5mm crank length on my bike, I am suffering from knee pain lately and i am wondering if it has to do with my crank arms. My in-seam is roughly 882mm. Now i must admit i haven't gone for an ErgoFit fitment or anything like that before. I do want to go to one just dont know which one as Cajee in princess crossing is charging R400 and Cyclefit R750 or so. All i know is that Aaron Brown runs the CycleFit one, apart from that no idea in the differences between them. My Web search has conflicting info about my crank length, some say 172.5mm is fine other sites say cause its for my MTB it needs to be 175mm and even one suggests it must be 180mm. As both are pretty expensive i dont know which to do first, and if it is replace crank to what length. Any and all advice from you experts will be greatly appreciated. Thanks Scott
  10. Hi Guys I've been searching for a new bike for weeks now and just can't settle on anything. I have around R 20k to spend and have managed to narrow my choice down to the following two bikes unless someone has a better offer than these around that price that I've missed??? I need to choose this week between the SCOTT SCALE 940 or MERIDA BIG NINETY NINE 1000??? I'm no pro rider but not a beginner either. Currently I've been riding a 2010 MONGOOSE TYAX SUPER. The type of riding I do is stage stuff like Sani2c and 40-60km single day rides. Please help, I gotta choose this week!!!!

  13. I would like to say a big thank you to Steve Bowman from Cycle Lab Cape Town. My wonderful Scott 29er developed a small problem and dispite me not buying it from CL, Steve handled the entire warranty process and handed me a new bike in next to no time. A big up to you Steve!

  16. I recently read to my dismay that the Fox CTD is rather crap. On my previous bike I had a Reba RL fork and the infamous DT Swiss M210 shock. So when time came to upgrade my bike I though something with Fox CTD front and back would be nice. Seems it was the wrong choice by reading all the negativity around it. Anyways, it seems the complaints were mostly around the Evolution series forks and to a lesser extent, the shocks. Luckily for me it seems, I chose the Giant Anthem with the Performance series and not the Scott Spark with the Evolution series, something I didn't even notice beforehand. My question though is, are the issues sorted on the 2014 models or should I start saving for a Monarch and SID so long?
  17. So I am looking to upgrade to a 29inch. At the moment I am between the 2014 Scott Scale 940 and the Merida Big.Nine 1500. Any suggestions?
  18. My house was burgled today, my 29'er Scott Scale 940 2013 (two months old, black and blue) stolen from behind the security gates of my front porch. Guess no Argus for me now... Would appreciate it if people could keep an eye out on websites or the like - bike had slicks put on (I know - don't start), and has a non-matching female friendly saddle. Stolen from Boston, Bellville
  19. So, after having been riding (and enjoying riding) a fairly "mass-market" Scott Scale since the beginning of 2013, I decided it was time for something special again. The Scale's an amazing climber, and because of it's sub-70deg HA, it actually handles a bit of tech quite respectably, but I've been missing railing into berms flat out and then bouncing off the gnarly stuff on the way out. So, I grabbed the opportunity to buy a well-cared-for Pyga OneTen29 last week and proceeded to rebuild it with a mixture of new and used parts. The spec list: Frame: Pyga OneTen29 2012, serial number "Cliff", Shock: Rockshox Monarch RT3 Fork: Mongrel Rockshox Relevation (2012 lowers, 2014 RCT3 upper assembly with FastBlack stanchions) Wheelset: Novatec Flowtrail 29 Tyres: Rocket Ron 2.25 rear, Hans Dampf 2.35 front Cranks: XX1 156q GXP Derailleur: X9 type 2 short-cage Shifter: X0 black Brakes: XT 785 Rotors: XT RT76, 180mm front, 160mmm rear Pedals: XT 785 Trail Stem: FSA SL-K Bar: Truvativ Noir T40 Seatpost: Easton EA70 Saddle: Fizik Tundra 2 Mg The raw finish of the frame was looking a bit dull and scratched in places, so I took everything apart and applied some TLC with steel wool and a scourier sponge in places. Cliff from Pyga was very helpful in supplying a new decal kit, which pimped things out again afterwards. I spent a few nights last week and some time over the weekend building stuff up (thanks to Marc at Crown Cycles for helping with a few bits and bobs during Argus mania). The end result since last night is this: I have yet to ride it any further than the road in front of the house, so will report back as soon as the first ride is over. So far, I've been mighty impressed with the build quality and overall feel of the beast. Hot damn!
  20. Hi. I am new to this forum and new to the cycling world. I am looking at buying my first bike. A have decide on a mountain bike. But my plan is to do the 94'7 this year. 21. Hi Guys, we've set up a group to ensure that refunds from the Durban Dirt are made. Please see the group here https://www.facebook.com/groups/1417663621815162/1417675111814013/?notif_t=group_activity just add your name, and we'll then refer it to TIB & B-Active. Some riders have been refunded, and some haven't, hence the group. Please advise anyone else that you know who entered the event. Thanks, Scott.
  22. Newly formed Swiss / South African duo Nino Schurter (27) and Philip Buys (24) will participate in this year’s Absa Cape Epic, which takes place from 23 to 30 March, for the first time as team Scott-Odlo Racing. The dramatic new route of the event, now in its eleventh year, will be as challenging as previous years. Click here to view the article
  23. Suspect I saw a stolen bike this morning. If anyone has had a scott scale (think it is Alu) taken from them recently I saw a guy riding one at 5.35am past Bryan Park shopping centre JHB. He was wearing work clothes, cap and white headphones that could have been from an ipod. I suspect this could be his commuting route. The bike was a 29er Scott White fork, I think it was that metallic grey with white scott writing. Bike looked quite new. Unfortunately I did not see it for long and it was dark. Could be worth checking the area out round that time in the morning. I would imagine if he had bought that kind of bike he would at least have a helmet or shorts.
  24. Hi guys Would appreciate some input... The mtb bug has bitten, and I'm looking at doing some small upgrades to my bike. I know you guys will say wheels, but not looking to spend that much right now (have my eye on some ZTR's with hope hubs :-)) I have a Scott Scale 960, so components are entry level. XT rear derailleur and the rest is Deore, barring the crank. What suggestions? I'm looking at a maximum spend of R2000. Hoping to pick up some bargains at expo or on the current sales. PS :already have tubeless.
  25. I currently have a merida 120 dual sus trail bike 26er. great bike for ST but it is heavy and I sukkel on the the climbs on XC rides/races. I think it weighs like R15kg. I would love a Spez Epic Comp but they like go for R34k, my budget is under R20k and i see the Scott Spark 960 29er dual sus going for under R20k. it's weight is 13,45kg, how does that compare to weight of other bikes in that price range. it must be a 29er and must be dual sus (I prefer the softer ride for my knees and age, LOL)
