  5. I am looking at buying a new road bike to start off with. The guy at the bike shop I visited advised me that in terms of value for money, nothing will beat the Silverback Strela (the 2016 model looks spectacular I must say). Not even Giant or Merida will be as good according to him. Does anyone have experience with this bike and is it worth getting? It come with full Shimano equip, but just an 8-speed. Is this good enough to start off with?

After an easy Sunday ride nothing to technical got home cleaning the bike and realize the rear tyre went flat pumped it and went flat again. i then removed the tyre and found a split on the circumference of the inner wall starting from the valve hole outwards in both direction. 14. Hi, I'm still riding a 5 year old Spez Epic Comp Carbon and now looking for something new. The 2016 models coming out now are above my budget, so after doing quite a bit of research, I've narrowed my search down to two bikes that's still available in 2015 models at quite good prices: The Scott Spark 930 or Giant Anthem Advanced Carbon (650b or 29). Would love to hear some opinions here. Does anyone have experience of both? I do mostly trail riding with the occasional longer distances and races like W2W, Houw Hoek, K2C, etc. I tried a friend's Scott 930 recently and loved it. Will also be taking out a demo of the Athem 650b this weekend to see how it compares.
  15. Hi, I am fairly new to biking, and, after a lot of research, I think I've narrowed my choices to the Giant Anthem Advanced 29er (R41k - 2015 model) or the Spez Camber Comp Carbon 29er (R41k - 2015 model) i.e. both are the same price. I have also been quoted R47k for the Spez Epic Comp Carbon 29er. I'd be interested to hear from the members which bike they feel offers better rideability and value for money. After reading numerous posts, I know that a lot has to do with personal preference so I plan on riding both, if possible, before purchase. Cheerio.

  18. Hi, I have been riding for about a year now and want to move from a 26" Silverback to a 29" Full sus. I have 3 bikes in mind but cannot seem to choose a bike. They all cost the same so the price issue isnt a factor. The three bikes I have looked at is the Scott Spark 940, Giant Anthem X (Upgraded to Crest Wheels) and Silverback Sprada 1. With me staying in the Garden Route I ride alot of offroad with a few single tracks here and there. Please help!!! -Johnathan
  19. Every so often a new bicycle gets launched that causes a stir and when news first broke of the new 27.5" Giant Reign the world took notice. Enduro racing was already in full swing and most manufacturers had a bike pitched at Enduro racing, but very few had a bike designed and build around this form of racing. A Large Reign Advanced 1 has just been introduced into our long term fleet. Click here to view the article
  20. Hi Guys So Ive sold my Fondriest TF 2 frame as I felt it was time for change.Ive still got my flawless 7900 Dura Ace 10speed Groupset and Easton EA90SLX wheels. Ive got the groupset and wheels in the classifieds but I cant get a decent price then I will keep them, No Issues. My question now is, What frame/bicycle do I go for? Complete bikes, I am looking at Ultegra 11 as a minimum but if the approximate R6000 cant be justified then Ill got with 105 Giant TCR ADV R36000 full Ultegra 11 Giant Propel ADV 2 R27000 105 11 Giant Propel ADV 1 R33000 Ultegra 11(Limited) http://www.giant-bicycles.com/en-in/bikes/model/propel.advanced.1/19021/76870/ Swift Ultravox RS1 R36000 Ultegra 22 EA70SLX wheels Silverback Scalera 2 R34000 Ultegra 11 Silverback Sirelli 2 R33500 Ultegra 11 Framesets, I will then keep my groupset and wheels and just get the frame. Bear in mind an 11speed Ultegra is about R11000 so I could then even go with a frameset and then get the new groupset and then just keep the EA90SLX's 2013 Focus CAYO EVO with Racing 3's wheelset R18500 2015 Giant Propel ADV pro R22000 2015 Trek Emonda SL R21000 2014/2015 Swift Ti R18500 The Fondriest had a harsh ride but It was something I could bear. I didnt like that it felt that way. I want a racing bike thats not going to beat me up. I prefer a slightly more upright position but also not like Jacob straight up. Looks wise its defnetly the CAYO, then the Swift then the Propel. Id like to buy now and not have to worry for atleast the next 2 years. Ill also be looking at getting a deeper wheelset closer to the DC. Advice and reviews are all welcome, maybe Ive forgotten something on the list. ALL help is appreciated! Mopkop
  21. I am absolutely exasperated by the service I have (not) received in attempting to locate spares for my Northwave Aerlite MTB shoes and Thule bike carrier, ant trying to buy a Giant Trance! My tale of woe starts some months ago when my Thule carrier decided to dismantle itself on a road in the Cederberg. One "click-lock" knob later and my bike was hanging behind my car! Was advised that the agents for Thule resided in Olympic Cycles so I contacted them and was told the parts were on order but that I would be contacted when they arrived in a couple of days. No calls of course but I followed up as I realized they may be busy. Then the runaround started.......no the parts were missing from the order etc but they would arrive soon. Some weeks later I again followed up. No parts. Now getting pissed off dismantling bike to travel. So I placed an actual order. Needless to say 3 months down the line still waiting for the f@$#ers to actually come up with the parts! So I have a little accident and break the micro ratchet strap on my NorthWave shoes. Ok shoes cost 3k so I'm kinda keen to replace a R50 part (available on Amazon, but not to SA) so I go to Trail and Tar where they were purchased and after begging to be served they agree to contact the agents to locate spares (did ask for agent details but not forthcoming but fair enough they are running a business). Obviously it would be too much to ask to actually get a call back from a Cape Town business so a week later I decide to go to Cycle Lab to have a look at a Giant Trance (yes apparently they are the agents now) and am pleased to learn that they also sell NorthWave and they will contact the agents for the spare part. Two weeks later and I am still riding with insulation tape to keep my shoe on! Oh and just for information CycleLab did not have a single Giant in stock but I could buy one from the catalogue!! (Jesus wept!) But wait.......Google is your friend........Hullabaloo is the importer.....so a quick email ( followed by another 2 weeks later after no response) and I am settling into a winter holding pattern with taped up shoes, a non-folding bike rack and an aging 26' Silverback begging to be replaced. So in order of priority I am imploring the Hubber community for suggestions as to where I can get parts for NorthWave shoes, Thule carrier spares and finally a Giant retailer that actually carries stock!!

  23. Hi Guys, We are working on a new stem and we may be able to make it compatible with standard steerers and Giant's Overdrive 2 1 1/4" system as we have had a number of people asking about Overdrive 2 stems. The stems would be XC/Trail/road compatible and of a high quality alloy, either 2014 or 7050 like our ControlColumn stems and of a similar price (around R350) Would anyone be interested? What lengths would you like? Let me know.
  24. Over the past couple of months, I have become very interested in the range of mountain bikes available for women. This developed as a result of trying to find a bike that fits me comfortably. I tend to fall almost exactly between a men’s small and medium size frame, leading to uncomfortable compromises on many frames. I therefore jumped at the chance to test the 2014 Liv Intrigue 2, which is essentially a women’s specific adaptation of Giant’s trail staple, the Trance. Click here to view the article
  25. Hi Guys, I'm looking at getting into MTbing, particularly like the idea of stage races (W2W, Sani etc.,). Any advice regarding the following bikes would be greatly appreciated: 1. Momsen Vipa AC 2. Giant Anthem 3. Scott Spark 940 Thanks
