  1. Hi All, So I'm in the market for a stumpjumper, having ridden a camber for a few years. My dilemma is; I could buy a nice shiny new 2014 stumpy comp for approx R28K, OR I could buy a well-maintained second hand 2013 stumpy comp carbon for R20K. I really can't decide. The comp carbon is a better bike and is R8K cheaper, but it's used, I wont have any warranty or any LBS service as it's being sold by a bike hire company. I know them and they look after their bikes though. Any got any suggestions or experience with either bike? Thanks
  2. So its time for a new bike... Seeing that 27.5" is the new black, that's the way I'm gonna go and I'm looking for 140mm suspension travel. Not 160 as I intend to do some longer rides / races with it Please add to the list of bikes to research and post reviews! Any agents for the lesser known brands will be appreciated. Santa Cruz 5010 Momsen (model(s)?) Intense Carbide Cannondale Jeckyll Yeti SB75 Specialized (model(s)?) Giant Trance Trek Fuel GT Force
  3. I recently had my Specialized Stump jumper guaranteed by the agents (for which I am grateful) but the design has apparently changed and after taking it back to the agents and being told "we don't know how" to fix it, " I must monitor it" my bike looks like it 3 years old. My problem is this: the BB housing has been made wider on the new model, after spacing the chain ring as far away from the chain stay as possible...I find it cutting into my bike!!!!! I have taken it to the agents twice and two other bike shops, and they dont know how this happens???? Can any one tel me how I can get hold of the "Top Dog" because I am fed up with poor service, and I think it is a design flaw. If the bike was designed for a 11 speed application, surely this should have been a part of my warrantee.. Please help

  5. Ok so here is the deal, was checking my bike today after a bit of a rough ride on the weekend, and found this (see pic). Before I go and scare the daisies out of myself on the replacement cost for a Spez rear shock, do you think its broken beyond repair.
  6. Hey everyone I'm looking at getting me a road bike but once again the choices are so flippen much I am more into mountain biking, this will be to do the odd road event down in Cape Town. Heres the short list and pricing Scott: Speedster S20 R13999 (105) ***CR1 20 R20999(105) carbon*** No price on the CR1 30(Sora ) Merida: Scultura CF904 R18899(105 ) carbon Scultura 904 R13999(105 ) Giant: TCR C3 R15499(Tiagra) carbon TCR C2 R16899(Ultegra/105) carbon Cannondale CAAD8 6 R13499(Tiagra) CAAD8 5 R14999(105) Didn't get price on CAAD10 Specialized: Roubaix SL4 Sora R18999 - Carbon frame Allez Elite Tiagra R13999 ***Roubaix SL4 sport 105 R23999*** ***Tarmac SL4 sport 105 R23999*** ***These two are "WOULD LIKES", OVER BUDGET! What would you guys recommend? As you can see there is lots to choose and I am super confused!!!!! Do I go for the Roubaix with a crappy Sora groupset but carbon "BEES-KNEES" frame? Really liking this but the grouset is very off putting Or do I go Aluminium frame with 105 groupset with some change to do a wheel upgrade? Looking at the CAAD8 5 in this regard The Giant TCR C2 looks like flippen good value, Carbon frame with good groupset. Any other suggestions are welcome! Thanks

  8. Hi I am currently looking for a Specialized tarmac sl4 frame. The specialized version usually goes for around 25k and the sworks around 37k But no one has stock, wel atleast here in jhb I found a shop bridge cycles down in capetown which has stock but is selling the specialized for 19k and the sworks for 25k. Does anyone know this shop, are they legit, is this just a big special or to good to be true? I have asked demetri if its the genuine roduct but he has not replied, but in general our email conversations has not been smooth so he might not have gotten the mail
  9. Specialized Racing Downhill team star Aaron Gwin produced the quickest time in the men’s downhill qualifying at the 2014 UCI MTB World Cup, presented by Shimano, as he finished two and a half seconds ahead of Santa Cruz Syndicate duo of Josh Bryceland and Pietermaritzburg’s own world champion Greg Minnaar after the final round of downhill qualifying at the Cascades MTB Park. 11. The guys at SSpecialized must be morons. After p*ssing off everyone recently with the 'Roubaix' debacle, they're at it again, but with 'Allez': http://road.cc/conte...#comment-244568 The words don't even SOUND the bloody same! It's a pity SSpecialized are such a bunch of litigious twats. I like Omega-Pharma-Quickstep (especially Tom Boonen), but watching the Ronde van Vlaanderen on Sunday, I was rooting for anyone but them to win. The thought of a SSpecialized winning was too much for me..
  12. Hi , A mate of mine's bike has been stolen from his house in Vereeniging. Black Specialized Pro, Campag Record , Hyperon rims. 13. Hi guys, I would like to hear what you guys say about the Camber 2014 model & If there are maybe "better" options? (give reasons). Yes, all depends on riding style + where you ride. In short Jonkershoek (90% of the time) & surrounding trails in Cpt. Currently on a HT , but keen to get something more play full / comfy / easier on my lower back BUT also still "race ready" to do a couple of stage races & one day events. All the reviews I have read are very positive, but there is no review like a thehub review Price will be +- R60k for the expert ( R40k for the carbon comp) Here is a cool video Bike info & spec http://www.specializ...bon-29#features
  14. My experience, Being a specialised fan for a number of years with an S works road bike, numerous MTB and road shoes, S works helmut etc, here is my experience. After washing my MTB shoes they developed a ridge in the front, no matter how hard i tried, the ridge wouldn't go away, This made them impossible to wear. I took them into Melrose concept store to see what they would be able to do, after not hearing back from them for about 2 months, I called for feedback, and their response was, sorry, head office would not warranty them, however, if we went into the store we would get a discount on another pair. We did so and purchased another 2 pairs of S works mtb shoes. As i could no longer wear the damaged shoes, I gave them to my sister. Un be-known to me, she then sent them in as a warranty claim and within a short period of time, she received a brand new pair as a warranty replacement. I was shocked as this seemed like either double standards or the Melrose store simply did not send them in. During this time another pair of carbon road shoes had failed as well as delaminating of the plastic of my S works helmut, I took these items into melrose store and explained the whole story regarding the shoes my sister had replaced and asked that this time the items would actually be sent in. As Specialized require the items to be sent in, I had to borrow another helmut and sent the items in. A week later i received a call saying that the items would not be warrantied as the faults were due to wear and tear, however if i could find a proof of purchase, something could be done. How can this be ? either they are under warranty or it is wear and tear, and as i did not have a proof of purchase i then asked for the items to be sent back and to call me when i could collect. No call was received and after 2 weeks I had to send a mail asking when the items could be collected. i also explained that this was double standards as the mtb shoes my sister had swapped had no proof of purchase. and were older than the shoes i had just sent in needless to say after numerous emails back and fourth between head office and myself, Specialized has declined my warranty. I think the asking of proof of purchase is just a way of being able to repudiate claims as they please. Lets see what Specialized USA has to say. Who am I, just an ex Specialized fan.

  16. Hi Hubbers, do you think 2015 would see the Specialized 650B. I personally cant see them loosing out on this and would only be a mater of time before they launch there 650B bike. As most will know the tires are out. From Sean Estes "It's a little known fact that we got our start making tyres — before we made bikes even — and to this day tyres are still a key category for us," said Specialized's global PR manager Sean Estes. "Tyres provide the final connection between the rider and the ground which is why tyre choice is such a critical element of performance and an area we put a lot of effort into. Even though we don't currently offer 650B bikes we still want to make sure riders have the option of choosing their favourite Specialized tyre models for all popular wheel sizes."
  17. I buying a new road bike (may be used) in less 3 months time so I started with my research. Currently I am looking into Specialized Venge Expert Ultegra but don't have too much info on Roubiax or Tarmac. Also looking into Trigon. I like the look of the Aero frames and we don't have huge mountains to climb in races as well. Also like the Fondriest range as well. Any other suggestion on bikes that are worth looking at? If I go used or experience bikes I will have to look at upgrading the wheels to Zipp or carbon deep section clinchers. Any advice and also would like to test drive the bike before buying so looking for shop in JHB or MPU area that will let me test. Size 56 cm
  18. I want to refurbish a Specialized saddle. The specific model are not being made any more, so I want to extend the life a little, as it is the best saddle ever made. Any one has some contacts in Gauteng to have this done? Any idea on cost? Thanks R.
  19. Continental, Santa Cruz Bicycles, Shimano, Giant Bicycles, Specialized Bicycles, Canyon Bicycles, Mavic, SRAM, Cannondale, Cube Bicycles, Alpine Stars, Fox Racing Shox, Mucky Nutz, Dirty Selle San Marco - it reads like a who’s who among bike brands, and it is. Click here to view the article
  20. After quietly launching 27.5-inch tires last month, Specialized did the same today with their first Stumpjumper FSR Expert Carbon EVO 650B.
  21. My MTB was stolen from our garage this afternoon. We were in the house at the time We live in a complex with a gate and an electric fence. Seems like the thief had an exit code or a remote and I'm guessing he knew exactly which house to go to. Unfortunately we suspect the guy in the house that overlooks our garage may have seen me cleaning the bikes or putting them away and may have arranged to help someone steal it - or at least point them in the right direction. There's no security at the gate (small complex) and no cctv. The bike is an Epic M4 - but looks newer because it was resprayed a couple of years ago. The fact that it has been resprayed will make it very easy for me to identify if I manage to find it.
  22. I advertised a large Stumpjumper Expert 2012 model on Gum Tree during the festive season and received an email form an interested buyer James Malinga. He called me to meet his son for whom he was buying the bike and asked to meet at a convenient location in Cape Town. I agreed to meet his son Shaun on Saturday 4th January at a KFC in Cape Town. I met his Shaun as planned with the bike and he was very happy with the condition and agreed to buy the bike but needed call his father James to do the EFT. Shaun spoke to his father and then he handed the phone to me to speak to his father to confirm the price and my bank details. He said a transfer would be done immediately from his FNB account and I would receive an SMS from the bank within a few minutes confirming the transfer. After 10min an SMS bank transfer confirmation from FNB was delivered to my mobile from a 16 digit number confirming payment with details of my bank account a payment reference and an FNB help line number. I released the bike to Shaun (picture of him below) and we parted ways. Two days later the money was not in my account and I contacted the FNB help line number sent with the confirmation of payment and they confirmed that they have no record of the reference number given nor do they use the text message number used to confirm the payment from James Malinga. I HAD BEEN SCAMMED! Beware and be on the lookout for the bike below and contact details of Shaun and James. James Malinga Cell Phone: 0735410335 and 0603238884 Email Address: taison.c.corparation@gmail.com Note the name James gave me does not match the name on the link below.
