  9. In the light of the non-Authentic (fake) bikes that seems to be doing the rounds (aired on carte blanche), does anyone know if there are evident ways of identifying whether your scott spark mtb is a fake? i.e. some Scott stickers or signs that they have put in for this purposes (like a watermark on a money note type thing?
  10. Don't message me - I'm just re-posting a Gumtree ad I saw There's an ad on Gumtree - looking for owner of a bike. Suspected stolen - guy asking whose it is bike it is. (don't go nail the guy - he's looking for the owner) If you know the owner, send him the link. http://www.gumtree.co.za/a-sports-bicycles-fitness/tableview/notice-do-you-know-of-anyone-that-has-had-a-scott-spark-elite-recently-stolen-from-them/1001148761730910017407209 The ad reads as follows: On Friday I bought a bicycle for my son from a guy near the Seven Eleven, Sandown Rd, he approached me asking if I am Interested. It turns out that I am looking for a Bike for my son to commute to school with. After a very sad story of his father passing away last week and him and his mother needing cash, I told him my budget was lower for my son bike. After I did my shopping he approached me again on my way home accepting my offer. When I showed my son the bike he almost fell off his chair. We did some internet research to find the bike value to be much higher raising my suspicion. I took down details from the guy but it seems dodgy, the phone number is message mode, and the address I will try again.

    Stems

Hi, I'm looking for some guidance please. Is there a difference between a oversized 31.8mm and a 31.8mm stem for m/biking? For example Ritchey WCS C-260 oversize 31.8mm is the stem on the Scott 700 RC but no mention of" oversized" in the Ritchey website on the C-260 stem. Thanks.
  12. Im thinking if buying a demo 2013 scott spark dual suspension from a cycle shop. Bike has never gone offroad approx 30ks on it. Late 2013 model-not the same shock as the 2014 model. Asking price 22000. Advice on whether this is a good bike /price will be appreciated.
  13. Which is better, a rear shock mounted horizontally or vertically? Which is stiffer? Does it matter? I am in market for dual sus 29er, and on the list are: - Merida 3000 - Scott 920 - Giant Anthem X Adv - Cannondale Scalpel The Merida & Giant has vertical mounted rear shock, whilst he Scott and Cannondale has horizontal mounted rear shock. I do not want a gomma-gomma ride.
  14. Any opinions on these 2 bikes? I like the lockout on the Scott but the Vipa looks so hot. What else should I look at at the R40k mark?

  17. Pyga are great looking bikes at the best of times .... but just look at what happens when you add a touch of performance enhancing bling. Here is Scott Soothill's Pyga (thanks for the pictures) after he made a few purchases of FUNN components from www.performancebikes.co.za
  18. I'm sure there're dozen of similar threads in here... but if you've got yhe time and feel like adding your input I'd appreciate it. After 3 years of EXCELLENT service from my converted Scott Aspect SS, I've decided I think I deserve a 29'er SS Specific bike. I've more than likely decided on a Momsen STR and I was going to go with very basic but durable parts to build... basic Handle bar, seat post , stem etc Deore Crank Magic rims Surly cogs and chain rings to name a few But .... then i got thinking ... maybe I should pimp it... but just a bit, without breaking the bank! I'm trying to get away with around mid to high teens thousands (but would like it to hopefully be sub 20) on the build. If you were doing this , what would you do?
  19. Hi Guys, I have a Scott Spark Elite 29". Enjoy the bike but the more I ride it the more I'm coming to dislike the limited suspension settings. It's the Twinloc with the Full Open or Full lockout so when it's open there's a lot of pedal bob. Find that when riding on uneven terrain the open is too open and the lock is too stiff. Was thinking of upgrading the rear shock to a Fox RP23 or Monarch RT3 (both with the pro-pedal type middle setting). Any suggestions or comments? Done a bit of reading and it seems that the change would eliminate most of the need for the remote lockout lever. Thought maybe I could just leave it on for the front shock? Thanks
  20. Hi all, Just wanted to take this opportunity to introduce myself to the people here. I have entered this sport about a week ago and actually did my first proper ride today, nothing too serious, did the medium course at Rietvlei in Alberton. I got awesome swop deal on a 2011 Scott Aspect 20 so that's my ride - for now. I did make the mistake of buying the wife a real cheapie bike as I first want to see if she is interested in the sport. Going to have upgrade the shifters, rear and front derailer. Going for a Shimano Acera setup there. At least it will be a little better until I can get her a proper bike. My daughter of 9 seems to be very keen and at least I bought her a much better bike than I did for mom. Nice twist gears with Shimano components. She finished the 5km track with me on Saturday - very chuffed with herself. I am very impressed to see how friendly cyclists are on the forum and on the trails... However I must say some bike shop sales people can seem very snobbish sometimes. If you are not there wanting to spend R7500 or more they not really interested in dealing with a person. It's a bit of a generelisation but that has been the experience thus far. Can you guys recommend any good bike shops in the south and east of JHB. Cheers Douw

  22. Looking for the person that purchased the second Scott Contessa from TVRIGGS over the weekend, we have been supplied the incorrect front wheels on the bikes, if you could contact me directly to allow us to get together to switch them so we both have a matched pair of wheels The young man in question has misplaced your details Regards
  23. Hi all, I'm due for an upgrade and am stuck between 2 bikes. What would you sugges: Momsen AL429 or Scott Spark 960 with AirShock upgrade. Any advice would be highly appreciated.
  24. My brother's GT Avalanche 0.5 has been stolen out of the garage over the weekend. It's a large frame, normal Yellow and silver of the Avalanche 0.5. Marcozzi fork and Scott saddle. Most component are LX except for the Truvativ FiveD crankset. It has 1 Alex DM24 rim and a Sycros's rim with Maxxis Crossmark tires on. Thats me on the bike at a race last year. Sorry, don't have a better photo. If you see it please let me know.
