Have you got the brakes working yet. Send photos.

Managed to get the calipers mounted by grinding down that adapter i showed you. Need to get some oil and service / bleed the brakes before i can get em working though (hoses /resevoirs are empty ). Had to go get a different chain for the DMR kit i bought (the 9spd did not fit) so i been working on that , but thats all sorted and the bike can now pedalthumbup1.gif .

Brakes are now last step, just gotta google how to get em working - ive made it this far without having to go to a LBS so wanna see it til the end myself.

Thanks again for your help. Nearly there!

I have an old Nishiki manitoba sx that i would like to convert.

Thinking about going with the raw allu look.

Do you need to treat it after the stripper or will it be fine without any treatment?

It'll be fine without any treatment. That said, keep it looking fresh by giving it a good old wax with some car polish before building her up to prevent the typical surface dulling due to corrosion.

Where did you get the adaptor that attaches the back disk brake to the frame?

I've done just what Divernick said. Left raw after a good scotch brush. Then I polished it up with a good car polish with a light buff so it doesn't get too shiny. I've seen guys make their frames really really shiny if that's what you after - takes a lot of elbow grease though. I like the industrial raw look I've ended up with.

I'll polish it up every so often and if it's dulls you can scotch brush it again.

You can of course clear coat it too. Adds a slight shine. Apparently a matt clear coat keeps it looking raw.
