I love that frame and fork! I will treat myself to one when I have saved enough money

Howdy!

Need some advice regarding cranksets please?

I have Alivio on my MTB now and want to replace with something better suited for SS (as I've heard these are not the best for SS?).

When looking for cranks, is there anything I should be aware of that would cause them not to fit my bike?

I want to get these for example http://tinyurl.com/k9una4w - so regardless of my current setup, I should be able to remove everything and replace them with these?

Where oh where did you get hold of those brakes, or were they part of the original bike?

She's a beaut, btw!

I bought the frame on ebay many years ago and as she didn't have disk mounts on the rear, i went looking for rim brakes.

Fortunately it was at the time everyone was upgrading to disks and i picked up the ceramic rim Mavics and the XTRs for just about nothing on the Hub (think second hand value of 26" XC at the moment).

Any MTB cranks with removable chainrings can work. There are pro's and cons to all types and prices range from cheap to very expensive.

The main thing to consider is that you will be wanting to install a SS-specific chainring, so a crankset with a 104mm BCD like most Shimanos, Truvativ, Race Face etc will work fine.

There are also different BB styles for you to consider. The modern external BB is easiest to work with, but the older square taper and octalink/ISIS styles normally last longer but weigh more.

The Truvativ ones in the ad will work fine.

If you want to upgrade the frame to disc, even though it doesn't have the mounts, I used one of these universal adapters on my old Trek SS and works perfect. http://www.wiggle.co.uk/a2z-universal-disc-mount/.
