If you want to, I think it will be better if you post it and then ask the culprit to join the group.

Ok I get it. I'm faxing a copy of this to the bike shop tomorrow. I owe him the opportunity to reply first.

That is all the warning you ever needed right there... if your LBS is still using a fax machine ... get a new LBS NOW!

We have moved on to a thing called electronic mail or email in short ;)

SA LBS's have sooooooo much to learn from the UK - customer service, value for money, do it right the first time, pride, act and take action on customer complaints and most of all - real "qualified" mechanics working on bikes.

I get all of this from Eben and his crew at west rand cycles - except for the certification of the mechanic buit i have known Mike for many years ;)

lol! nah, I'm the guilty party there, I find it's too easy for people to say they never received an email whereas I think a fax is a bit harder, just my opinion there!

last week I was phoning around getting prices on some material I needed to complete a piece of furniture I was making, I asked the guy to please put the quote in writing and fax it to me... complete silence on the other side, then he asks "you still have fax?".

copied from the Nigerian

............ agge nee sies man did you not learn anything during all these years...... you could have taken the bike back and said nicley...... "why did you not do this????" ..... instead of whining like a ou vrou met 'n nat broek???????

.... eish party mense se kinners!!!!!!!!

You are rude and condescending. Why should he be nice about it in the first place. Are you gonna be nice when you order a steak in a restaurant and get a chop, you chop! Why must people be serviced in such poor manner! its because of people like you that allow standards to be lowered. This is not and I fully agree with Eiger. Also note that in this year alone I have taken my bike to 3 different bike shops, and I will not use either of them again. If someone says they gonna call, then they better, why should the customer have to make all the calls!! Nigerian dude get a life, check reality and realise in this day and age, very few people are actually trained to do the job. I can build and service any kind of bike, yet this is not my profession and I never worked at a bike shop. As far as fax and emails go, you are better of faxing the letter or even better send it with registered mail so that you have confirmation the owner received it as he would have to sign for it, emails - who really checks email, try the 20 or say bike shops I have emailed in the last week, faxes - typical excuse we didnt get any fax, the fax machine is broken, do yourself a favour, go talk to him in person and let him know how you feel, maybe you get a freebie

UK shops also have issues. I'm currently experiencing extremely poor customer service from Evans Cycles.

Edit 29/3/2011: Details of Evans bad service can be found here https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/101833-evans-cycles-atrocious-service/

Exactly..... how many of these so called specialist bikeshops have trained wrenches. They may have one but the rest is left to "spannerboys".

Your average mechanic at a dealership garage at least did some training on the cars and electronic analysing equipment they use. Do not see much of that at LBS workshops. They have a workshop manager that checks the car before it is washed and cleaned.

Very few LBS's does that, yet we expect them to preform miracles in a small dimly lit cluttered workshop. Your own cognative senses should tell you CHECK what they have done.

I still say if Eiger was not lazy and used his own 10 second rule there would have been no need to whine and be vindictive. It is just common sense to do such a thing.

But he decided to insult me as a person living in Nigeria to justify his own stupidity...... just not on.

oh big small h SHUT UP......

there is onl;y 2 things a Bicycle mechanic needs to be trained on... shock service and wheel building...

the rest how difficult is it to adjust brakes and gears... to strip a crank set.. to fix a puncture....

if you pay for a service.. no matter what it is you except it done right..

the bottom line is this:

why should i have to check anything you do, if i'm paying for it...

customers service in today's market is king.

You guys can count yourselves lucky. I have had servicing problems with all the local cycle shops. Latest one, have my headset and bb serviced aswell as hubs. Get my bike back. Bike still making clicking sounds. Take it back cassette was not tightned properly. Idiot me doesn't bother to check everything else. Get to ct go for a ride clicking sound back, cranks have play in them. Cue frantic calls and find out cycle city is still open. Take bike there, the bolt that tightens the crank needs two turns before the guy even felt tension on the nut. Now I paid good money to have my joke serviced why should I recieve crap work?

And my next bike shop option is 300km away. So i'm kinda fooked!
