Why is evreyone so anti RST?

Why is FOX shocks the best?

Why do we not trust Suntour shocks?

I heard that Suntour is very popular in Europe but in SA we'd rather ride a tricycle than ride on Suntour forks..Shock.bmp

I have a Suntour Mag 32 air fork. Done over 6000km, no problems. Would I buy another Suntour product?

Probabaly.

Would I buy a Rockshox product. Probabaly.

Would I buy a Fox product? Probabaly not, too expensive for me! Funny to think that the 4 shocks on my 4x4 cost as much as a front fork for my bike!

So what's the question here? Why do people have personal choices? Same reason we all like Nik Naks it has been embedded into our brains since we were little kids.

IT all comes down to aftersales service. If you struggle to find spares, you will not support a products. I would love to get a Magura fork and brakes but the agency has changed so many hands that I'll rather not take a chance.

1. RST makes mostly entry level " cheaper" forks. They are getting better at it, but its no Rock Shox or Fox yet.

2. Fox is not "the best". Rock Shox is just as good and in some cases better. By quite a bit. Locally RS sells for 2/3 or 3/4 the price of Fox for at least the same performance. That makes it a no-brainer when buying after-market.

Suntour manufactures most same brand forks (Giant, Merida, Silverback labeled forks). They are massive in terms of volume but their focus is not on high end suspension. For the money, its not bad. But come upgrade time there are MUCH better options.

I recon it's the MSG!

How good are the racing DT Swiss forks?

They are good. But $$$ and back-up is limited. Small local agent with, the last time I checked, only one qualified DT-trained mechanic. Weight used to be their biggest selling point, but RS and Fox have caught up. For the money a SID will be better (performance wise) and will not weigh a heck of a lot more. Plus RS have service centres in Jhb and Durban.

Guess it is marketing driven. If you haven't tried it, you wouldn't know any better.

Years ago I ordered a bike which was specced with a Fox shoc. When the bike arrived it had a RS Reba on. I was not happy at all. Eventually took the bike. Will never buy anything else now than a RS. I had a good experience and will be hard pushed to change.

RST is a beginner recreational fork. Fox are not the best, but one of the leading companies. Depends on the riding you want to do, the budget you have and the support in the country.

XC race normally battled out between Fox and Rockshox, downhill race - Rockshox and freeride/slopestyle/am - Marzocchi, although each brand is eating into the others market share in the disciplines.

Most of the forks are comparable in the leading brands like Fox, Rockshox and Marzocchi - not sure Marzocchi is represented here in SA? Look for the best deal out of those brands and you will be fine.

They have been around a while, not quite as long as RockShox and Manitou, but a while. They have never seemed to make any headway, but there are some old RST's I have seen that are still going strong, with the stanchion chrome still unblemished.

Why is FOX shocks the best?

WHO says? Some say Marzocchi, some Manitou. FOX work well, it is just that service parts are pricey, as are the forks.

Why do we not trust Suntour shocks?

WE don't?

Most of the low end Suntours put onto cheap bikes heres will not put up with a serious beating, but Suntour make some good high end forks like the EPICON. Dragon Sports SA supports the brand here.

It may be. Possibly the brand has not received decent marketing here. Europeans are also a little SOFTER, wouldn't you say. Whereas the Americans support Marzocchi because they have the hottest calendar girls, and all their forks are BIG 'n BURLY Bud!

At the end of the day, it's up to you. I like FOX, but I prefer RockShox personally. They are smooth, easy and cheap to service, look good and have all sorts of add-ons, so that a slightly lower cost fork can be upgraded as you can afford.

I have never felt a Marzocchi that I like, and for my sins have had Manitou that aren't at all alright in-between, and then only when they work.

Choosing the right fork and shock for your riding style is the important thing. Trying to use a Tora to huck jumps is just going to end in costly tears. Trying to win XC races on a Pike will not get you far fast. Trying to do anything on an AMERICAN will just end in - tears I suppose?

Setting up your suspension properly is also NB, as is correct and regular servicing.

(Spelling issues aside:)

Front Suspension = FORK

Rear Suspension = SHOCK

BOTH = Suspension, as in FULL SUS vs HARDTAIL
