My dream is to pitch up at a cycle race in a Ford GT40 and a bike rack on the back with a Bianchi on it.

Unfortunately, I can't afford either.

I wonder how fast he is through the corners...when on two wheels that is. And would the bikes stay on the rack if he really opened her up?

One better to arrive in rolls Phantom with a singlespeed rigid on the back.

You would of course require a chauffeur like this to pull it off right.

We saw a guy rock up at the Epic Prologue in a Porsche 911 with a bike rack carrying a Spez Epic. It was then that I realised that the Epic was now out of my league.

Knowing you, you'll probably pitch up at a race dressed like that and chauffeured by some phantom!

You will only be able to find a GT40 in kit format. Or you will have to fork out millions for the '60s Le Mans versions.

I was fortunate enough to go for a tour of Hi Tech automotive in PE. They build replica GT40s (as well as a few other cars) and they are the only company in the world that has a liscence agreement with Ford and carol Shelby to call theirs GT40s.

Their vehicles are so close to the original, that they are the only modern day cars that qualify to race in the FIA classic car series.

Bailey Edwards in Jhb and CAV GT in Cape Town also build complete replicas, but they don't come close to Hi Tech when it comes to authenticity.

A fully buildup GT40 comes in at R700 000 odd which is about the price of many SUV's. Either way, I could never afford that much on a car.
