NAh..just looks like Burry's weight wasn't far enough back, off his seat...that's all...and he was going too slow there (i.e no momentum).

F##ll to do with the size of his bike...

schurter riding a bike with about 1.5kg less weight. that is quite a bit.

forgot what i wanted to add..

interesting when you watch the clip how schurter takes the left line and how he controls the momentum with the back brake - amazing skill

no, to much front would probably send him over the burrybars ;)

i just looked a couple of times at that clip to try and see what set him apart... his rear wheel locking and releasing was intersting.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a big Burry Stander supporter

However, it seems that even Burry struggled to get his 29er over the Rock Garden at the WCO XC and fell.

So stick with your 26er as 29ers won't make MTB easier, all the 26ers with Lefty's made it, well done Cannondale.

From my understanding XC is not where a 29er really comes to its own. Some XC courses are more suitable, but the most will be better suited for 26er. Marathon on the other hand, is more suited to 29er.

You sound surprised that the Leftys made it?

Burry had no issues with the rock garden on the previous laps, he looked smooth going through there and even over took some of the other guys.

He just got it wrong. It just takes a second of lapsed concentration and you go down. Absalon was also very close to going down there and he is a legend of XC racing.

Great course !!!

Personally, I think there would have been a different outcome had Mr Stander been able to ride a 26" hardtail, as he used to.

Another thing, if he had had an aluminium, and not a carbon derailleur on (the cage cracked in the slam), he would have been able to straighten it well enough to use his top 3 gears.

Despite all that, and having to run up hills, he still did well.

Sure it was the 29er that caused him to fall, and not maybe his grips, chainring bolts or maybe his chamois cream. I think it was a small techinical error, but I also think that janneman72 is green for not owning a 29er!

I may often jest about the 'big wheelers' but my honest opinion (don't let everyone know) is that they do have their place

Having said that I have a problem with the die hard fans who consider it to be the panacea for all kinds of MTB ills (makes you faster, more skilled, fitter) and everyone must be riding one soon or you will be 'left behind' ....... even more so with the 'a 29r HT is the same as a 26r FS' disciples but ja whateva blows your hair back
