In Ireland, it’s kind of a play on morals where the prankster asks the victim to deliver a “very important letter” to someone other than to whom it’s directed and so on. When it’s opened the letter actually says “send the fool further.”

The most famous April’s Fool Prank was in 1957 when the BBC news show Panorama showed a video of Swiss peasants picking spaghetti out of trees they had planted. Many people called the station to get more details on how they can grow their own spaghetti, so the channel advised them to “place a sprig of spaghetti in a tin of tomato sauce and hope for the best.”
