Rather take that small amout you are going to pay in and purchase a 29er hardtail you can use to do all your training on, you seriuously can't do the Epic and race and train on the same bike it is just to expensive espicially on a dual suspension.

Yes, because two bikes are always cheaper than 1.

You got me thinking, I should get myself another car, so that I can save on maintenance costs!

Agree with you 100% one bike is enough no matter what events you are training for.

Seperate wheelsets for traning and racing is a better idea than an extra bike, not just for maintenance but having a racing wheelset gives you a psychological boost before an event.

That scott is an awesome bike, and it will handle any XCO or XCM with ease.

Take the Anthem out for a test ride. We're all bias, so I wouldn't trust the hub answer. Only once you get to the technical stuff you'll know. You surely can't make this decision without riding the bike.

I'm loving my dual sus 29er but I went from a 26" HT to a 29er DS, so our situations are not even close to being comparable.

Nothing wrong with 2 different bikes for different applications though. Like many people here I have 2 bikes, but they're for completely different purposes (my long-travel AM bike is a different animal to my hardtail).

Saving on costs however is a ridiculous justification.

Keep the blue cables- maybe in 5 year's time the Bulls have sorted out their dinosaur problem, and the whole PTA will be gunning for that bike

HI Guys

Bought a Scott Spark 20 (2011) 26er in Dec. Full Carbon, Spec as per the website. Was tempting myself down at the LBS and the store owner stated that he would trade the Scott for a new Giant Anthem X 29er with a minimal cash difference.

What to do? Scott is Carbon, awesome machine, lockout front and back but I have an opportunity to get into the 29er game at a very limited spend. The Scott when bought would have been much more expensive, but groupset, breaks etc all the same (Full XT, Dynasys)

What you guys reckon, keep the carbon Scott 26er or trade for the Alu Giant 29er?

(as an aside, I haven't ridden the Giant yet)

scott for sure. I had the Rc and still regret selling it. It is an awesome racing machine. There is no way that alu giant will be quicker. If it were a Spez s works 29er THEN THAT IS ANOTHER STORY.
