If you girls carry on like this we'll end up like Santa Cruz, Lake Tahoe, for the uneducated these are TRAILS in the USA, where they have a F^&*&*g speed limit.

Control your ego and your bike, if you can.....from what I've seen there are few that can.

Tokai is for EVERYONE....INCLUDING Noobies!

I climb the single track, and have to slow down for so many SO CALLED DH riders on THIER SO CALLED DH trail.

Ride YOUR bike, and let others ride theirs!

If you climb the DH trails (ie. THE WRONG WAY) it will be people like you that make it go there.

It's for YOUR own safety. If a so called DH RIDER rides into you with his SO CALLED DH BIKE because you are riding up a SO CALLED DH TRAIL and he can't see you you are going to see your SO CALLED @RSE.

This is exactly the kind of person I encountered yesterday. NOBODY here said Tokai's not for everyone. BUT, the DH runs are ONE WAY routes. Lets see if you've got what it takes then if it's so easy to diss those who choose to ride the downhills at high speed. No downhill rider will ever run a "noobie" off the track if they come up behind them. The DH crew are some of nicest, least ego people at Tokai. Just don't be a total chop and think you own the place and can do whatever you feel like. The one way rule is for safety.

Let's get the terminologies correct here:

DH: A downhill route, designed and built for that purpose. At Tokai we have 600m of this (you can choose to not be a dick on 600 meters out of thousands?)

Singletrack: most of the paths through the forrests, up them and down them. These are marked as such on the map.

Fireroad: The jeep tracks running laterally as well as that which runs up/down from the main entrance.

Yup. Play by the rules. I also sometimes ride against the traffic (even Majik has one way signs these days), but I am always on the lookout for riders coming from the top and will make way for them. Because in 30 minutes I am also gonna come hauling down there and then I expect the other guys to do the same for me. Easy as that.

I'll make a deal with you, first clarify where these so called DH trails are, as I DOUBT very much that it's THAT much fun PUSHING my bike up you singletrack, and to be fair....I have yet to confont a DH boy coming down, BUT if you guy's stay away from the singletrack entries, so I don't have to fight my way in and don't have to slow down while you have Sunday tea....then I promise I'll only pass you on the way down......DEAL!

You guy's should really wear panties that aren't so TIGHT!

The most dangerous part of DH/XC interaction is at the berm on DH3. The xc dudes insist on riding up the berm and the dh okes can't see what's coming up the trail when they drop in there.

I have to recount an episode I witnessed. My mate Karl dropped in to the berm on DH3 at warp speed. He clipped a xc dude as he was coming out of the berm. Their bars clipped. Lucky for the xc oke cos Karl weighs about 90kg and his bike weighs well over 20kg.

Needless to say the xc guy had to change his shorts and will not be riding up that bit of downhill again.

And this dear friends is what is wrong with the world.

Yes, wearing panties that are too tight is a definite problem in this world! I vote we cut them off with scissors, post the video on FaceTube and make a point of going commando!

Funny how the people who do different mtb disciplines (i.e. DH, XC) definately have different personalities. The XC guys are all very competitive and always up for a dog fight (whether that be on or off the bike) and the DH guys are the more relaxed bunch who has a beer afterwards. Me, I'm a bit of both I guess, seeing that I have an AM bike! So who in this thread are the DH'ers and who are the XC riders... ;)

Totally agreed, downhill riders enjoy right of way on downhills. Stop whining about manners, at that kind of speed it's not really an option to have a chit chat about it. Besides, there are LOADS of uphill to he had on the gravel roads.

This issue seems pretty clear-cut to me. If the trail is marked as a one-way trail that just so happens to go downhill then all riders should adhere to this rule. Anyone going the wrong way is not only breaking the rules, they're also asking for sh!t cos the guys who are coming down have no obligation to watch for traffic coming up the hill.

This is all just hot air until you back that up with actions bud. I'm pretty sure a lot of the DH 'boys' will beat you on the uphills too and will smoke you on just about any singletrack of your choice.

There's no room for aggro at Tokai. We all there to have a good time. LOUDMAC, please educate yourself on where the DH runs are, and be sure not to ride up them.

Yup. 100% right. It's got NOTHING to do with ego and 29ers and DH bikes and what ever the f*ck you want to make it about.

If you drive down a 1 way road in your car you will get a hefty fine. Not to mention the safety aspects. It's exactly the same here. The rule exists for your safety.

There's gonna be a new thread soon. and this is it's title.

A Downhiller rode into me on Vasbyt. Who can I Sue?

Lol @ that...

I've also noticed it on occasion. I view myself as an all rounder. I love going downhill, but I've got an XC bike. Until I have the cash to trump up for a DH rig, I shall remain so. BUT - I respect the guys coming down, do not go up the DH sections (it's part of the reason for trail degradation anyway) and move out the way on the bi-directional routes when someone comes barrelling down them. After all, I can clip in within half a revolution, and being unclipped does not mean I cannot pedal. I find it easier to get going again on the ups, as long as they aren't too technical - in which case I would go back a few metres and reattempt it.

DH okes are hectically chilled. XC okes (the majority, at least) are not. mUni's are just on another level of coolness. I witnessed that this weekend, when some "race snakes" insisted on coming up the top of Vasbyt whilst repeatedly insisting that the DHers restart their runs.

I, in the meantime, was acting like a DHer and constantly going down Vasbyt, and then pushing back up (off the trail) and then reassessing the line and bombing it again...
