MTB Mud guards: a Thumbs up or a BIG No-No

After eating a lot of sand (and some other foreign objects) and swallowing quite a bit of water coming from my OWN front wheel when out cycling in the rain I would like to know if ....

fitting MTB Mud guards (front and/or back) to my Merida Matts 1000 would receive a

or a VERY BIG

 .

One can still duck and dive the spray coming off a fellow cyclists' wheel by riding slightly to the left or right of his/her wheel.

BUT

cycling with your body and head in a slanted position to your hands (as if being pulled to the side with hands still on handlebars) is ridiculous and that in order to duck and dive the spray from your own wheel.

Much more acceptable than bar ends on riser bars...... Especially with the open sewerage areas we sometimes ride through in Cowteng.

I had the same decision to make... and I figured that it depends in the mudguard. Some are hideous! Some are pretty cool!

I went with a THE Shroud... it left the bike looking mean, unlike most which sissy-fy! Here's some pics of the it:

Those Mucky Nutz front mud guards are cool, I would def consider that, dont like the others, makes your bike look like a psuedo MX machine, and we all know, real men pedal...

+1

I had not received my Mucky Nutz yet when I posted on that thread - just thought it was very cool. Have had one on now for about a month and not had 1 little iota of gunk flung off my front wheel into my mouth or eyes. Really worthwhile piece of kit.

If you cannot make, or defend, the decision yourself do not ask it.

Having a bad day? If you cannot add value or make someone laugh, don't post.

Jeesh Patches, how many fricken bikes do you actually own? Every time you post I see another one I haven't seen before!

I use the Crud Catcher Front Mudguard.

It keeps muck, stones and small animals out of my teeth.

haha! ... beeeg morewood (Izimu) and leeetle morewood (Ndiza). At one stage I did have this Yeti ASX aswell, but sold it. So at one point 3. Currently 2. And maybe the next addition will be an XC bike, haha!

But yeah, not nearly in the same league as the likes of Daft Vader

His collection has chopped and changed somewhat since this pic... and his DH Beast is missing from the lineup.

but funny enough, he's nearly always on the Black Cherrybomb (2nd from left) when I ride with him

I think that's his old Yeti... Now with a Meerhout.

Correct, patches?

yup! First bike was a Meerhout (which I still have). 2nd was the yeti pictured. 3rd was the Meerhoutjie Ndiza and then the Yeti became obsolete, so I sold it.
