Well you gonna have to remind me sunshine. I take nothing personally.

I just get pissed off with individuals who stereotype based on race, age, sex etc.

For instance, ranting about someone on a Giant Hardtail (low end price R4500) and then posting a pic of a Giant FS (low end price R15000).

THINK, before you make derogatory statements. If it pisses the OP off, then why hasn't he done something about it?

Take a Pill.

Actually I cant even respond to this, because what I typed and saw was two different things. I could have described it in much simpler way, but I didnt. The fact of the matter is.If you commenting on me being Sterotypical I would first look at yourself before accusing...

Not once did I mention race,or age.. It was all you buddy!!!

I am a concerned citizen who knows whats going on around us, when I see something which doesnt make sense I will question it.

Where better to ask about a stolen bike, but on the hub!!

what I will do tomorrow morning is take a photo of him on it!! Post the pic and lets see what everyone thinks?

I think with things like this it is aaaaaaalllllll about the approach.

Hey dude, that is a nice bike you have...

Where did you buy it from? (From a guy...BS)

How much did youpay for it? (R500 for an epic s-works is a bargain)

How long have you had it? (3 years but the bike is looked after and has new tyres)

What do you use it for? Do you race it? (You don't race a Scalpel????)

Nice groupset...have you had to replace anyparts and how much did it cost? (No idea...)

What cycling shoes do you have as it has clipless pedals...(Huh...)

Why did you go for a Thompson seatpost and not a KCNC (Hey wena...Huh)

You want to sell it? (Maybe...Yes...but never no...)

How much do you want for it? (Bet it will be a bargain...)

I think you need to go back to the start of the thread sunshine....

I really think you should think about politics...You'd be good at it!

You are good at what you do here on the Hub...I am sure you can use it better elswhere...

You could be like our political compass...Or a moral one...

well will be interesting to see what transpires this sunday. most of the okes that are stealing these bikes are not for personal use, it is to sell on - so chances are the stereotypes riding a bike may very well own it. I hope this program in Sunday focuses on the shops etc that are buying ad selling these stolen bikes - they are the bastards that fuel the fire

Well, its not going to stop me from reclaiming my bike if i eventually find it. They (the buyer) more than likely know its stolen if its from a private sale in the township.

And whilst the OP's rant holds a bit of water, what if anything is being done about a WHITE/EUROPEAN/CALL-THE-COLOUR-WHAT-YOU-LIKE lowlife such as Neil from Neil's Wheels Capetown who is more than obviously dealing in stolen bikes? Or is it cool because he is of the above colour shade?

Mybe you should get into politics............. I'd vote for you

You seem to be approaching this from a good angle. I too does bother me (as well as some other Moderators) at the amount of racially based comments that are left on here......... there is always mention made about the Black guys riding on the wrong side of the road........ never the white guys (which I've seen btw...... often), or the garderner that cant afford the bike he's riding. I too ride a mid range Hard Tail, and I am not White......... so can I expect to be pulled over for irritating a passer by, because I dont seem to be able to afford my Bike?

I too am very concerned about being Bike Jacked......... And I understand why Bicycle thiefs need to be approached......... and BEATEN TO A PULP (preferably)......... especially if they hurt the people they are mugging........ In fact.... Don't even call the police.

But 1 question for the OP? The Million Dollar Question............

HOW MANY WHITE GUYS DID YOU EVER THINK OF PULLING OVER? DO THEY IRRITATE YOU WHEN THEY RIDE NICE BIKES?

I hear what you say AK 47, but how many white guys have tried to hi-jack your bike, or any other Hubber's bike?

Funny enough, I have never been pulled over by someone claiming I have maybe stolen my bike.

now it might be because I am white...It might be because I wear cycling clothes...But I think it is because:

I am indeed white!

If it walks like a duck...

Sometimes I wonder if there is a coherent thought process in there.

Who do you think is buying the high end bikes and parts being stolen.....

It is all about first impressions. Does the profile match the property? It is like seeing a 19 year old earring wearing, ass crack exposing untied shoes lighty get out of a luxury car and thinking to yourself "He either borrowed dad's car or he sells drugs."

If the dude is wearing overalls, takkies and is riding a R10k hardtail, the chances are that he stole it or bought it stolen based on the profile. I know a BLACK guy that rides a mid level MTB to work and back (Fox fork and all) dressed in cycling kit including a Specialised helmet. He looks the part so no questions asked. Had he been wearing a pair of jeans with a game helmet and takkies with his 540 pedals, I would also ask questions.

Maybe it is time to toss the race card and start looking at things with deduction and reasoning.

Damn. I'm about to agree with the oom...

Much as we all want to be seen as politically correct and racially unbias the truth of the matter is that the vast majority of bikes jacking are perpetrated by black people. Thats not racist - thats fact.

The other truth is that in SA most black people are poor. Seeing poor people riding expensive bikes is suspiscious - the colour of the person does not matter but if you see a dirty person with old clothes and knackered shoes (black or white) riding a titanium bike dripping in XTR you are suspiscious.

I guess you could also argue that 90% of people in SA are black so 9/10 poor people you see will be black. Therefor 90% of "OMG a poor person riding an expensive bike" scenarios will be about black people.

Political correctness be damned!

I would suggest to submit this information on Carte Blanche Submit your story

I do not know much about this issue. Garth Watson can you please report to the Carte Blanche team on the link above. It would be amazing if they could include this on Sunday's program.

Anybody who knows Garth personally please phone and alert him. I have sent a PM.
