Have a big "piece" 6" 357 Mag in a quick draw canvas colour coded holster which clips onto a velco'd strap around my steering pointing forward. Not so obvious? Filled hollow point home made rounds with a lesser load. Sort of equalizes the situation. Also have a throwing knife.....can peg at inside 4 meters and have the proverbial pepper spray. Under my bar I made a pvc pipe with sinkers attached to s/s fishing trace and this is the last line of defense. Tied this on with rubber and just a grab will break the rubber. Have not had to use them yet (touch wood) but have used them as a test. I know it adds weight but I would like to "do" some bikejackers in sometime. Atleast I will be ready and will not go down without a fight. No wife, no kids so what the hell.

Ok you guys, now it's your turn to shoot me down......

Sometimes I wish I packed this critter to take out motorists who fly through red traffic lights and round-abouts, just when I am about to cross and have right of way.

That little 20mm sucker is inside the Warthog. Made mincemeat of Sadam's tanks.

20mm pffftttt Oom 30mm! 3900 rounds per minute, that puppy vaporise its targets with high explosive rounds.

Not that I advocate violence btw .... but honest there are so many potentially murdering idiots on the road who fly though intersections without stopping when they are supposed to: even if they see you on a bike, somehow they don't see you as having any rights or right of way.

Once, while cycling the The Circus (South of JHB) my wife and I were standing by the side of the road when a dark blue Merc drove by. The driver, a unusually short and very round lady, that could have worked as a clown in the circus, angrily blew the car's hooter at us. I waved my index finger at her only to find the car screeching to a halt.

Clown number 2, 6 foot 12 inches giant and weighing in at probably 130 kg, then exited the passenger side and came over to sort me out. On his way over he had this habit of interleaving his fingers then pushing his hands forward until the joints in his fingers creaked. In no uncertain terms he exclaimed that he is: "F..ing sick to death of cyclists riding on his road."

During this interaction I was watching his hands with intent because as I was taught: "Always watch the hands - that is where the danger lies." He, on the other hand, paid not heed to my hands and only focused on pushing his face into mine and continued, without using physical violence (and not even knowing it, with that he saved his own life) to tell me how little he thought of cyclists.

I always thought cycling was painful but I knew if he struck me it was going to hurt more that a long hard ride. I had flashbacks of when I was assulted and my bike was stolen by three thugs when I was down in Cape Town on my last ride before this year's Argus.

Unbeknownst to him, as it happens, my hands moved to my back pocket where I felt the comforting grip of my .44 Magnum. As they say in the classics: "You never know who you meet in the street."

Reminds me of the joke I heard -

Officer stops a guy for a routine check, when he peers in the window he sees the guy has a S+W 9mm on his lap. He asks the guy to get out and then asks if he has any other weapons.

Yeah he says, "I have .357 magnum in a shoulder holster and a 6.35mm in an ankle holster, I have a sawn off shotgun in the door pocket and a CZ.75 under the seat".

The cop is speachless and asks if he has any other weapons, "Yeah, he says, but not many, just a .44 magnum in the trunk and a 480 Ruger under the back seat".

Good grief man says the cop, "What are you afraid of?"

"Nothing Officer", he says "Nothing at all".!

Reminds me of a chat I had at an airport coffe shop with an American. When there is a knock on his door late at night he ussually opens with his shotgun ready, the guy who knocks shows immidiate respect.

I currently have a Taurus PT100 40S&W in satin-nickel finish. But it is a bit on the heavy side for cycling. I would love to trade it in for a S&W M&P, but I just don't have the energy to tackle the licencing process again.

Agree the licensing is such a pain in the ass, I have a CZ83 which I would like to sell and then get a Glock, oh well, nothing wrong with the CZ so will just keep it.
