Guys, we are sitting with a terrible situation in Bloem.

The Local Municipality wants to reinstate a By Law that forces the already heavily taxed Bloem Residents to pay licenses for their pets (dogs and cats)

In short, it will cost me R240 annually per pet. They estimate that they will make a extra income of R55 660 560 that will be used for God knows what. They claim the money will be used for the benefit of peoples and pets, but we all know that will not happen

I would have no objection if it included a free rabies vaccination..but thats just a money making scheme.

We used to have to license our pets back in the day...what was the cost then?

I would also have no objection if I knew it would do good, but it will not, and the money will only disappear and feed the already fat cats

One positive thing from the by law is they are going to be strict on breeders and breeders needs to be registered. This will maybe put an end to back yard breeders and animal abusers.

The by law is going to employ 10 inspectors with a salary of R20k per month and they will also receive a bakkie each to do the inspections with. It is also going to employ a full time VET for R100k per month.

For this by law to work, it needs to be controlled by all the animal welfare organisations and let them receive the R20k salary and benefits. If this is the case I'm all for the by law to be instated.

Ok, so we are immigrating (some of you may know from the get out of here thread)

I need to find loving homes for my furry children.

I am heartbroken about this, but i simply dont think it fair to export them and quarantine them for so long. Plus, we have no idea on what size property we will end up taking and this worries me.

I am truly devastated by this. I cannot give a damn about leaving my stuff behind no leaving family(dont tell them) but i am really worried about my doggies and cat.

I have 3 boxers - Tyson 2 year old trained and fixed male

Layla (18 month old spayed female)

Scar (layla and tysons son - he was the one that i had the leg fixed due to the car accident - 100% healthy)

and Olaf - 6 month old siamese kitten that behaves like hitler occasionally.

Then there is Rolo...a 10 year old female english bulldog. She was our first born. All she does is sleep inside at night and snore and fart like i do.

Any suggestions?

Thinking more on this - there is a woman who handles exotic cat rescues and rehomings ( although my offer still stands if u need it! ) Very very strict home checks and may even know of people looking to home a Siamese and with experience on the breed - they are sure to have contacts for the right organizations in Joberg (if only i wasn't on the other side of SA)

And along those lines there must be a boxer rescue org or even a local boxer breed club in your area? Good place to start - ppl who love the breed are all over.

Hi Wayne

Sorry to hear that the babies can't go with. Have you found a home for Rolo yet?

This, I've found out, is Scar's happy face...

I thought Squamish might have an issue with Scar, but my fear wasn't founded. Ghost, however, ushered him about most of yesterday...

He does see a bit overwhelmed, and a tad timid, but I can see that it won't be long before he finds his place, and shows that there's a lot more puppy in there!

A thousand Thank you's.

So eventually on Friday I phone my sister in desperation to please go to my house and just spend time with my animals - I've been working 18 hour days for the last week and hubby is away as well. None of this was exactly planned to happen like this but it did and I was feeling awful. Sister sends me this pic: I will clearly sleep on anything if it smells like my mommy! post-30139-1432549080,4476.jpg

Even if it's a wooden coat hanger!!

I like the design of your chicken hutch. I already have an aviary...but the Department of home affairs doesnt want to put the chickens with the aviary birds...so I need to build a hutch
