So thats yet another unwanted stray at my house. If any of you are thinking of getting a dog PLEASE try not to buy from breeders/pet shops etc.

Thanks, she is doing well. But still very uncertain and unsure of life....sad to think how people abuse puppies, babies and old folks and all things unable to protect themselves.

My 2 kids are at the Vet as I type this to be sterilized... Funny how they both were instinctively nervous and afraid this morning, in spite of how we tried to appear calm - I am sure they sense way beyond what we can understand that there is something afoot...

Good Luck.. we can only wish to be as intuitive as our animals.

I've always been a dog person but when this cat rocked up at our complex and decided to live with me I couldn't hand him over to the SPCA. Its been a couple of months now and he seems happy and I'm happy - he seems to be the perfect cat. Its awesome having a pet in my life again.

Yeah, I agree, my new interest on TV is the show "Dr G - medical examiner" and on one of the episodes an elderly man had choked to death on his false teeth (yeah I know sounds crazy but there you go :) ) but when he fell unconscious his dog had realized something was wrong with his owner and had Jumped on him and scratched him all over his body trying to wake him up, I thought it was quite remarkable that the dog realized something was going wrong but didn't know what obviously, I think our pets are a lot more intuitive and brighter than we give them credit for.

The story of Isabelle Dinoire, the face transplant Frenchwoman, is similar. She was mauled by her Lab after ODing on sleeping pills.

My two pups are back home less certain parts of their anatomy and I am less a sizeable portion of cash. I had the option to take them back to Animal Welfare for a free sterilization but due to a previous bad experience in this regard, I decided to rather take them to my Vet who has look after my animals for the past 15 years. The end result was a Vet bill of R3,415 - that included micro-chipping them, so call it a round R3,000 for the two. I just felt a little ripped off somehow, so I wrote them a letter last night saying that their pricing may be one of the reasons why ordinary people cannot afford to have their animals sterilized at regular Vets. Grateful that they are both back home and both seem none the worse for wear.

Shew, that is hectic, Husky Rescue charges a R850 adoption fee which includes sterilization, microchip and home check etc. I know they have it done at a regular vet but I think the vet gives them a special rate.

Have to take Panda Bear to the vet today for his annual vaccinations and check up. Found a tick on him the other day which is surprising in winter so also need to redo the Frontline treatment.

Just on Frontline - although I am a great believer in the product (and a VIP customer due to the volume that I buy) I have since discovered Advocate and trust me, it is just SO MUCH better. My big eye opener with Advocate is that it is actually a dewormer as well (and it treats for a myriad of parasites and nasties) but I applied this to my dogs about 1 month after they were dewormed via the regular praziquantel tabs that you get from the vet and I was ASTOUNDED by the number of worms shed by all of my dogs, not a pretty sight, but now I use Advocate to treat ticks, fleas and worms in one go.

PS. My adoption fees included the free sterilization as well, but another animal welfare place buggered up two of my dogs so much during their sterilization some years ago that they ended up in ICU, so I decided to never do that again.

Sorry, this is all a little off topic, I know.

BLANKET 0 - BLUE 10

Brilliant !!! Mine do the same to those grey dog blankets - the love tearing them apart, so now I have resorted to the fleece-type blankies, but I still have to keep an eye out as Romeo is the snatcher and once the blanket is on the lawn, the rest is history ! You gotta love that "It wasn't me" expression !!!
