Cunego I don't understand...why is he going into these breaks?he works so hard that he will never be able to help Scarponi on the final climb?Normaly if a team sends a rider in the break with the idea to be there to launch the gc rider on the final climb he mostly just sits on in the break and saves hes legs?So if he is not helping Scarponi what is he doing?maybe they want to make Basso's men chase harder but then I don't think they see him as a possible winner. Yeah, but in a way Cunego redeemed himself a lot yesterday, he really didnt have a lot of people working with him in the bunch, and most were positively passengers, I guess they didnt want him there as then the gruppo were definately going to chase them down, so figured without him they stood a better chance of staying away, but that said, he is not really a real contender so I dont know either. On the other hand the tactics of Astana and Liquigas are also disappointing, I simply cant understand them. Astana and Liquigas had no reason whatsoever to drag Hesjedal and Rodriguez up to the Cunego bunch, Cunego really didnt effect their standings and Rodriguez was never going to lose time on a short steep third cat climb, so by dragging him up they all lost time to him, especially Kreuziger who lost the most. In my opinion they should have sat back and said to Garmin and Katusha, you chase because you have the most to lose, but they killed their team, to in effect, lose more time - silly in my view.! Unfortunate to see Frank retire, Saturday already he looked miserable in the rain, and yesterday it seems he just gave up, in a way its disappointing because one expects more of a athlete of his caliber, the conditions are the same for everyone, going home just shows disrespect for the race and the fans. On a positive note Scarponi keeps trying but he just cant get away, at the moment they are all over him the minute he steps up, I still see him as the main contender, although Basso really has surprised me. Rodriguez,.........hmm I dont know, maybe, he is not great on the really long steep grinding mountain passes where Basso, Kreuziger and Scarponi excel, he prefers the short steep explosive climbs where he is almost unbeatable. According to Bruyneel, the injury was not bad enough to cause a retirement. The back room story is that Frank retired to prepare for the Tour to ride with his sister, and Bruyneel is so p!$$ed at him now, he probably wont get into the Tour squad. It is much more difficult for your opponents to react when you get lots of time on them in a big mountain stage 1 or 2 days before the tour ends.
