According to Bruyneel, the injury was not bad enough to cause a retirement.

Bruyneel is a ****, his master plan for world domination through taking over Leopard has backfired badly. I bet ALL the saxo boys wish they were back with Bjarne rather than this goose. Spartacus crashes, Fuglsang crashes, Frank pulls out, what next. None of the Leopard guys want to ride for him.

He should stick to his geriatrics in Cali, what was the plan to send old man Horner up the river?

According to Bruyneel, the injury was not bad enough to cause a retirement. The back room story is that Frank retired to prepare for the Tour to ride with his sister, and Bruyneel is so p!$$ed at him now, he probably wont get into the Tour squad. Stupid frankie-poo twat.

Yeah, he didnt want to ride here alone, neither of them do it seems, so it was just a matter of retiring or sulking at the back. Seems he chose the former. Not what one expects of one of the worlds best athletes in his discipline, personally I always thought he had more back bone than Andy, but seems I was wrong, either way I lost all respect for him.

  - I think you are right. Bruyneel in my opinion is "Yesterdays hero" the new generation like Vaughters are moving up and creating seriously good all round teams. The days of putting all your eggs in one basket, like with LA (and to a degree 'Berto now) is coming to an end, today's teams need to be a lot more versatile.

I think it's the first time ever that he has shown backbone. "I wasn't ready to ride the Giro, I'm not enjoying it, I'm injured, I'm not going to win so I'll save myself for another day".

Doubt he would have done this if Bjarne or Kim Anderson were calling the shots. All is not well at RSN.

Basso foresees “two or three” more Giro d’Italia - Basso was adamant that he’s not riding the Giro d’Italia for the last time at 35. “I’m going to race for another few years”, he said. “I don’t see many young riders who can take me away from my dream of winning the Giro again. I’ll fight for the pink jersey for another two or three times. The Tour de France is a different story. It’s more complicated. In my career, I owe a lot to the Tour de France. It remains a dream to get the yellow jersey but I have to be realistic as well. If the level here begins at 100, at the Tour, it’s… 100 and something… I’m at a point of my career where serenity counts above all. You know that my career has had a few hiccups. But I am a happy man and that helps to achieve great things.”

The Lombard believes that the big battles are yet to start with three hard stages in the Dolomiites. “Big battles mean that only four or five riders remain together, we haven’t seen that yet”, Basso said. “So far, we’ve been too many for a difference to being created. I have the maximum respect for Rodriguez, [Ryder] Hesjedal and those who aren’t far behind me on GC. I’m telling you the truth: I’m not thinking about the other riders, I want to find the best racing conditions for the best Ivan to be in action on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. I have to work on my strengths. I’m truly very optimistic. It’s been a very unique Giro, very tiring every day. It’ll make the last week very hard.”

Agreed. Although as I said before, I think the Schlecks are also a law unto themselves, or at least think they are, they want to call all the shots and that cant work.

I mean look at poor Cav, not my favorite athlete either, but he has almost been on the ground more than on the bike, he has been rolling around the deck, getting patched up, battling up the hills, getting patched up, just making the cut offs, getting patched up.......but he is still there and that has to count for something,

If I have to wear bibs like that, I'll also sport "look at yourself" sunglasses, fake moustache and a cycling cap :whistling:

Rodriguez or Hesjedal might run away with pink if Scarpo, Basso and Roman keep on looking at each other...

Hmm...

What is the general dislike for Cav' on the hub out of interest? Most riders I know admire him and you can't deny his talent, grit and results. He does back himself and believes that each sprint he enters he will win something very unbritish.

Is it a case of tall poppies, the fact he's a pom, arrogance (or belief) or that he is at the top of his game. Or is it something else?

Just curious.

I don't get it either. Perhaps its his (Cav) tell-it-like-it-is manner that rubs some people up the wrong way, but he knows what he is all about and what he is capable of .... perhaps its the scouser in him that irks some?

The Italians love him (apparently) - he has a base/home there.

I think he is great, and a fantastic team player, after all, all for one, and one for all.

And his b-day today!
