Critical Mass Jozi - 27 September 2013

well... using spy satelite technology and the latest advances in moden science, I managed to plot out this graph for the critical mass profile:

...if you want a more accurate profile, then maybe you should know that:

  • the particulars of route are made up as we go along.
  • It's not a race.
  • It's not a training ride.
  • It's darn easy (the braamfontein start basically caters for all fitness levels).
  • the pace is super relaxed
  • And it's meant to be fun ;)

So if you're looking for a fun relaxed ride through the great city of JHB, then come along! leave your garmin, power meter, and HRM at home.

If you're asking because you need to see if it will fulfill your weeks hill climb quota... then maybe try spinning ;)

What I really want to know is if you go past the Mercedes dealership on Jan Smuts. I work in that building, so would be easier for parking etc, I'd just join the bunch as it crawls by.

The Dunkeld start goes through Rosebank, but they head up by Bompas and through the suburb.

Also, the Dunkeld group doesn't crawl as much as the main group. But a good plan may be to ride to Dunkeld from the start... then on the way back to dunkeld after, one can easily split off from the group to get back to your office.Especially because some Dunkeld people take the more direct Jan Smuts route back.

Just saw the video, think we'll just meet up the bunch as it goes through the Zone

I do agree with you. It has reached the point where the group is so big that a slight little miscalculation from a rider could cause a big mess. Saw more people fall over during the last ride than I care remember.

Please people. DON'T RIDE WITH CLIPLESS UNLESS YOU CAN BALANCE ON A BIKE OR KNOW HOW TO CLIP OUT IN AN INSTANT.

Will definitely be there for this one.

Is there a safe place to park in Braamfontein?

Park at Fournos at Dunkeld - safe there. Well, as safe as it can be.

Does this mean you are going? I might stay at home then.

Thanks. I told you after the breakup that JHB is too small for the both of us.

Jo Burger will be selling Burgers at the Braamies Start before and after. Also the Levi's commuter clubhouse is open so check that out.

There are still plans to project Lebo Rasethaba's film of CM Jozi on the buildings at the start, but it wont be this month-expensive and not enough time to organise.

Re the comments on the ride being frustrating - I get it, but its a social ride. So go with friends and have a good time and don't get frustrated. The ride must be slow because if there is a puncture or technical, we can't leave the person behind, and if we move faster the group is not a mass, so it's more dangerous and we don't make the point we intend to make (yes, there is a point, believe it or not).

I'm looking forward to this one - see you there!
