AIRMAVRICK Posted October 28, 2011 Share New one is boring doesnt even have an african flair to it.. To be honest I think the designer quickly did this before they presented... REALLY NOT A FAN!!!

FSA Posted October 28, 2011 Share That is why the price of the entries went up so much. Jupiter is not cheap. What they should have done was open the competition to the public and the winner gets a free entry. All of a sudden everyone here is a graphic designer. Although I do know a couple of art directors who ride the Epic. I'll be sure to ask for their educated opinions.

kandui Posted October 28, 2011 Share You work 8 years to build a globally recognised brand and then you go a f... it up with a bland corporate logo. Whoever advised on this one should be hung out to dry.How many indpendent designers are out there who understand the spirit of mountain biking and ride themselves? There are loads who could have done a better job than a large , whisky swilling (probably Chivas- the Party's choice ),bloated advertising agency. The chain rings bouncing over the hills in the intro reminded me of a child's cartoon movie.I think the logo was designed to slot in any corporate sponsor on the left hand side , seeing that the Epic wants to franchise globally. Plug 'n Play stuff. It may just be a logo and not the ride itself, but something has been lost here and i think the stickers, shirts and gear with the old logo have just attained some extra emotional value. The logo reminds me of a soggy handshake.
Andro Posted October 28, 2011 Share DITO.... Those two gears together Just dont do it for me... Looks almost like some Miners (Metalworkers) union.... Eish.. Propose this to NUMSA.. :D Maybe if the had the orig logo (Bicycle) in the space where the chainrings are?? That could work for me. Rich.Carbon Posted October 28, 2011 Share The Epic is an established and fast becoming an iconic brand in itself. Why fiddle with the identity unnecessarily! Then from a design perspective... mmm... did not expect that from the JDR!!! Whoops
Danger Dassie Posted October 28, 2011 Share He is a graphic designer, as am I Well stop shouting the odds and give us a few samples then Not blown away by the new logo either, although I can understand the reasoning behind it as Admin mentioned. At least those who have stuff with the old branding have a bit of Epic history.

pauloc Posted October 28, 2011 Share It amazes me how these agencies are getting paid big bucks to build a brand and then they outsource to a 3 year old to actually do the work. Anyone seen the new Alexander Forbes logo (my link). Wonder how much the agency got paid to do that
(Deon) Posted October 28, 2011 Share I am finding it hard to put the supporting words to the logo. I cannot see any of the claimed reasoning behind the design for that design, are they talking about another logo?? ..And (with)in 3 months, the yellow on white may undesirable effects for anyone sticking the sticker on their car. The sun is sure to suck the yellow off leaving Absa looking like the owner of the Epic brand.. is that a fail? Oversight? Or part of embodying the African theme by showing how tough it is to race under the harsh African sun, coz then it works!

FSA Posted October 28, 2011 Share Your 12 year old would be able to do Nike's logo as well, and the ABSA logo and it is not as if Adidas reinvented the wheel for their log, Puma, difficult one that, Apple. I just think that at the scale of the Epic, it must be a nightmare to get the old logo printed on all different medium, not even to mension trying to do embroidery onto clothes, so, even though I is nog a busy as the old one, in the long run it does make sense, and as boring as the "gears" might look, it does give the option of animated graphics for TV etc Just a few other boring logo's I can think of FacebookSkypeTwitterand dare I say this "the Hub"Chain Reaction CyclesFNBErr, ok. Hard to please are you? Millions would disagree with you there on some of those. He is a graphic designer, as am I So what? Post some links to your work then for critique. Or, better yet, let's see some of your Cape Epic logo ideas. Maybe Jupiter will offer you a job Dont need a degree to know it looks k@k ouboet. I looks *** to you. Your opinion is certainly valid, I'm still undecided. Wait and see how it feels after your mind has forgotten the old logo, and when we get to see it played out on merch, tents, stickers, screen etc. The old logo was rubbish. It looks like clip art from a Corel CD. It's junk. I am finding it hard to put the supporting words to the logo. I cannot see any of the claimed reasoning behind the design for that design, are they talking about another logo?? ..And (with)in 3 months, the yellow on white may undesirable effects for anyone sticking the sticker on their car. scuzzy Posted October 28, 2011 Share Err, ok. Hard to please are you? Millions would disagree with you there on some of those. I am being sarcastic, trying to explain that all those well known branded companies have "boring" "nothing to it" logos, yet, are well recognized. Wyatt Earp Posted October 28, 2011 Share My good mate from Supergroup Jeff reckons the new logo is not Africa.I think that pretty much sums it up.
