They have dropped Siddle and Hilfenhaus. Their pace bowlers will be Johnson, Starc, Hazelwood, Watson. Very dangerous looking group imo.

Yikes!

Two lefties.

Dangerous yeah!

Bottom line is that they are dropping 2 x first choice front line bowlers so I cant really see them being more dangerous all of a sudden. Auz dont have all this quota bull***t so they normally choose their best team upfront.

I just think that if we can bat first and not lose many wickets in the first 2 cessions than the Auz heads will drop quickly......

And if Rudolph pays I hope they ask him to be aggressive. It irritates me endlessly to see him being forced to block the whole time when he is a natural attacking and destructive batsmen. If Rudolph scores a 400bla century he will still be dropped.

He needs a run a ball 150. SOmething that makes people really sit up and ask who is this guy..................

The mind boggles!!! The 2 key bowlers who have managed to do something are dropped/rested?!! ...and this for a series decider??

Dont let your personal feelings about a particular player get in the way of recognising that he's probably the best captain and opener that SA has ever produced. He keeps on scoring big runs and dispite his apparent shortcomings in his technique the oposition still spends most of their team talks and planning around getting him out. If anything we should look for a replacement for Alvero. He averages 41 (the lowest average in our top 5).

Agreed..........................I think his only fault was taking the pressure of captaincy way too young!

Imo thats the problem of not playing warm-up games: good for batsmen, not good for bowlers. GK was a batsmen, perhaps his coaching is biased that way? The bowlers have had a good run now, was much better in the 2nd innings, hope Peterson plays (solid batsman, too), Philander finds form and Rudolph is 12th man.

you don't think he would have consulted with AD on this? Our bowlers looks a bit overcooked, rather than undercooked if you ask me.

Cricket South Africa (CSA) will reach a notable landmark in its young history on Friday when Graeme Smith leads the Proteas Castle Lager squad on to the WACA in Perth for their 200th Test match since unity.

I see I got my wish, that Peterson is in and Rudolph is out. Kallis to bat only - lets see how that goes. The team looks monster heavy on batting, with Peterson and Philander at 8 and 9. Team looks a bit light on bowling, with Kleinveld sitting out. Perhaps a bit of a defensive selection?

Clever move by Aus to select a new pace attack, (if they can deliver), Johnston, Starc, and Hastings in, plus Watson. Very potent unit imo, and they dont need batting debth, given how their top order have performed.

We won the toss, first small part of the plan accomplished. Now to bat for 2 days, then have Steyn, Morkel and Philander charge in.

Sure, but score at more than 2 runs an over... In the first test when SA took the best part of two days to score 400 runs, you could see a draw coming. And yes, sure, drawing the second test was like a win for SA, but FFS, they bat slowly. It's like they start the game looking for a draw. I'd like to see em going for a win, always, even if they die trying.

And there goes SA, trundling along at around two runs per over. Aiming for a massive score of less than two hundred in the first day. Playing for time already?
