Been switching from rugby & cricket all day so far, but this last hour has been all cricket.

What an incredible win by Sri Lanka! Hats off to them. They gutsed it out and what a brilliant hundred from Kusal Perera to get them across the line especially when we still had well over 70 runs to defend.

I said earlier that our batting was unimpressive and given the way Perera played I think it highlights that. We needed much greater application than what was shown in this match.

Massive innings from Perera, they deserve the win just for his innings alone.

One of the best knocks I have seen in a long while. Also big kudos to Vishwa Fernando for hanging around and allowing Perera the freedom to bat as he did!

Agreed, Perera looked in control from the word go. He also looked well after the other batsmen. Top class innings.

I do think we bowled poorly to Fernando. I personally will bowl every ball at his stumps and give yourself a chance. Every short ball is a ball wasted.

Calm, cool, collected and aggressive when he needed to be. Managed his innings very well. Also apparently the highest score by a Sri Lankan batsmen in SA. That's incredible given the talented batsmen that's toured here with them in the past. It was exceptional and it showed our batsmen up. Faf also admitted as much.

Agreed about the tactics to Fernando but overall I think the way we batted across both innings was very disappointing and possibly the biggest reason that we lost ito our own performance. That said Sri Lanka showed tremendous fight and guts and tried their hearts out and deserved to win this against the odds. Kudos to them, they did a Windies away from home.

100% agreed. If it's short he doesn't need to play at it. If it's at or near the stumps you have a bigger chance.

I really don't know why we can't control the tail.

poor field placements, misdirected bowling. While Olivier literally bounced his way into the big time against Pakistan, he is looking like a one-trick pony that just kept loading Perrera's canon for him.

I think ZA sorely missed a line and length bowler that can contain a batsman, aka swervin vernon. He is like our Glen McGrath a bowler that could ask many questions of a batman by bowling a line with small variations that frustrates any top order batsman, and left tail-enders wonder wtf is going on. With a bowler like that, you can start getting highly creative with stacked fielding positions. Remember the Aussie slip cordon? yasis.

I think we could have done something like that with Perrera, who seemed content to cut to square every time the ball was just slightly wide and short. he was clearly going for that win, so feed the beast and be patient.

rant above cos i was very disappointed we couldn't bowl out a rank tail-ender with 60 runs left. pathetic. fokkol BMT.

The Blommetjies seemed distracted and complacent

Maybe one eye on the WC preparations ????

And another eye on the ‘Lankans recent Test performances.

It was evident from the 1st innings that the visitors are relatively young, fierce and highly motivated.

The next Test starts on Thursday

Often spin-friendly and maybe more like Galle than any other pitch in the country

true that. Sri Lanka have shed minnnow status ages ago. They are contenders no matter the format. ZA must show a bit more respect to the game in front of them.

Vernon was playing but not on the field due to an injury of some sort.

Personally I don't think that this had anything to do with our BMT but everything to do with a player who desperately wanted to pull off a win and was willing to chance his arm doing so. Did we miss a trick or two in the field? Quite possibly but take nothing away from how in control of the match Perera had become and that he could've come up with a counter for what we were doing. Perera played one of the all time great innings and I rate as good as any innings I've seen from any of the world's best batsmen.

What annoys me is the way batted across both innings especially considering how long our tail was. Collectively our batsmen need to take ownership of their failures in this match and rectify it at St George's. Perhaps a shuffle in the line up will help, perhaps bringing in guys like Mulder, P Malan and/or Moore (Warriors Opening bat) will shake things up. Our batting needs attention and it needs to get fixed post haste.

We are playing the Sri Lankans on pitches that certainly are bit friendlier than what most of our pitches would be. Not sure I would liken St George's to Galle though but I think the Sri Lankans wouldn't mind it much. We will have our work cut out in order to win the upcoming test and squaring the series. Here's to hoping our batsmen can find the will to fire and fire properly!

Not comparing St George's to Galle

Impossible

Just referencing with regard to the 'spin - friendly' scale
