I actually owe Retief Freysen an apology...

 

I have been a CSA hater for many years and taken many opportunities to slag them off as a useless, non rider oriented, self important bunch of no hopers.

 

BUT...

 

There are pockets if brilliance within the organisation and I would like to point one of them out.

 

Retief Freysen. He is at practically every mtb race I go to and I go to a lot. He is friendly, approachable, open to ideas, rider oriented and good at what he does. He has been a true sewrvant of the sport and deserves more credit than he receives.

 

Herewith ends the Retief appreciation thread

No. collection has more to do with the place WHERE it is collected than the convenience of cyclists.

 

Comments on Facebbok suggest that CSA finances are actually in order, but there was a posting a few days ago that claimed that Prime Media was owed millions by the CSA.

so who is the lucky service provider who gets this? and essentially closes down all the other organisations, resulting in no competition for said provider and in the end crappy service.

 

Dont disagree with the centralised seeding system. What I would like to see is CSA enabling everyone to register as a csa member - even if you register as a free member and pay the day license fees. At least this way we are one step closer to a centralised database of riders, and, we can link race results to a centralised number. So if my CSA no is 1111 i can still do races timed by xyz and those results can feed back to a central CSA seeding index. The problem now is that for each event there is a large percentage that dont have csa numbers.

Every year we see new people in charge. New swimming pools. New race.

 

They come they go.

• Nothing that I see gets done w.r.t cycling safety in SA
  
• Fever and fever cyclist gets sent to worlds, Olympics etc
  
• We still have NO seeding system
  
• We still have "Race number pickups"
  
• We now have NO cycle tour for the 'pros' in 2012
  

 

In summery I see my yearly money gets spent on an institution that hides behind PR and happy faces.

 

Personally I would LOVE to see the following:

Split between Pro and funrider

CSA deals with the pros, funriders are part of fun.....i.e. every race organiser for himself.

Thus for myself as funrider I don't HAVE to deal with CSA or their antics and my money will go to my CLUB and IF I want to "race" (Cyclosportive) I enter an event.

 

Why in the WORLD have no one yet decided to create a series of events for FUNRIDERS.....especially in Gauteng where NOTHING goes through CSA. Your cumulative or average or whatever counts as seeding for the next year.

12 races spread over 12 months.

One race number

One timing chip

One company to deal with.

Top of those in their ages or categories competes for the SA title.

 

Tell you why.....everyone is in it for a $$$$.....take away profit and you'll see people unite for the right reason.....the love of cycling.

 

So yes......we'll pay our R75 to CSA for 2012....pay our licence of R450 to race Age cats.

We will still have to travel HUNDREDS of kilometers, take HOURS off work to collect useless pieces of paper that can be printed at home or collected once....why??...the organiser wants to make money out of us.

 

We will still have no road closure in races

 

We as cyclists will still get killed on SA roads

 

The youngsters will still not be sent to worlds, Olympics warra warra warra....

 

Why are we still bitching and kicking and screaming about this?

 

Someone....anyone.....just create COMPETITION for CSA.....that is the true meaning of capitalism right?

Like the MTB world showed us......

Create a body that is in DIRECT competition with the CSA.....UCI membership? Blah Blah.....You as a funrider does not give a flyingF*@( about UCI points.....let CSA handle that....

Create a body for funriders and make life easy for THEM!!!!

Very good points, I have been wanting to blurt out stuff like this for ages now.

 

Some criticism was raised on twitter and other media regarding people who complain but don't offer solutions, my question, why do we have to give advice to an organization that should have our interests at heart in the first place ?

 

@Eldron, just because we see Freysen at the events, does that make him a good guy ?

you make some points, but seem to contradict yourself throughout. for example, one the one side you say, separate the CSA racing snakes from the funriders, while on the other hand you say - one number,one chip,one seeding. Well, in order to get one number you need everyone to register in a central spot - and like I said before - who is going to agree that company x will get that responsibility. Will racetec agree that entrytime be the custodian of that database, or perhaps ROAG down here in kzn can be the custodian. Maybe CSA could be - you get my point? you certainly cannot reliably combine results from racetec timed events with those from say Roag events, as they are using different unique identifiers - ID may do it for 90%, but ID number is also not reliable - you get my point?

 

I cant offer a solution - well i can - see my post from previously - CSA should be the custodian of this centralised database to give one numbering system (funriders and snakes) - and all the other organisations can use that CSA number as an indetifier

Nope......racing snakes, as per current, do not use seeding...if you are licenced, you race licensed. I know guys that are snails, pay up and race with the "pros".

Everyone, ROAG, Racetec, WT, CC....they can go fly a kite. Or if they are up for a challenge and want to make some money, show entrepreneurship and pitch with a sale.....

Been there, done that with the Nissan Van Gaalens last year. Earn your stripes. If you don't want to do that, stay at home. Or better, race pro.

Hold a referendum to see whether the cycling public wants them to continue or give up.

If CSA board members have any respect for themselves and the SA cycling public, they would accept vote of no confidence vote in their ability to administer cycling for the benefit of the country, and hand it over immediately to people that wants to be there for the Riders of SA!!

 

If not, they will run cycling into the ground, with no support from the riders out there.
