Hi I need the battery in my polar heart rate monitor replaced. (in the watch, maybe the strap too)

I've been told you must send it to JHB...?!?

Sounds like nonsense. Surely a watch shop can do it?

Hi,

try Gorgeous Silver & Time (021 552 8564) in Canal Walk, small weird jewelry shop with a fantastic watchmaker (coloured guy) - knows Polar's well. Lot of guys scared to touch Polar's.

Totalsports / Sportsman's Warehouse will charge you R250 (delivery + insurance), then Polar charges +- R100 for battery etc. Even under warranty. (My Polar AXN 300 - been up to JHB 4 times)

Cheers

PS - phone to confirm if he is still around. Charged me R40, done while you wait.

Awesome dude, you rock!

Did you win with your Polar - have the same problem: No authorized dealership in CPT can change a battery on a CS300, have to send it to Joburg. Takes 5-7 working days from when it arrives there, then they post it back and charge for it, even though my watch is under warranty. Rubbish service if you ask me.

The guys in Midrand (JHB) is the only authorised dealers. Super efficient and friendly. Don't take chances with other watch shops, it will also void the warranty.

And I'm sure 5-7 days is not too long without it.

Mine was done by a watch shop - and didn't function properly after that. Took a chance and sent it away to Polar: back within a week and fully functioning!

Heck, that's quicker than getting a waterproof watch's battery replaced - and that's shipped somewhere semi-locally (in Cape).

I had to send mine out to Joburg as well (damn thing started its 'low battery' nonsense the week after comrades - epic fail) so i waited nearly two weeks to get it back when the lab sent it off for me.

Send off both while youre at it (i had both batteries replaced watch and heart rate sensor for about R100)

It is a ball ache waiting for the thing to get sorted, but at least the whole warrantee thing still stands. A mate of mine tried to do hers via the local watch shop and shes replaced hers 3 times in the space of a year.

To me it sounds like extremely GOOD service, sincecwhen is it if a company ensures proper quality control been called BAD SERVICE?

If you send it to Joburg From the last outpost or the Cape Colony I suppose it must be cleared by customs as well

BAD SERVICE is when the owner cannot change his own battery, all this talk of warranty blah blah, be brave and just do it yourself.

Ummm...NO! A fellow hubber waited 3 months for is polar to return for replaced battery only for the speed sensor to die and need battery to be replaced = another looooong wait  Good luck with that one.

My Polar S725X started giving me dodgy readings (85bpm when going up Old helz at a decent pace). Replaced the battery in the strap (2025 battery) and at same time batteries in both the speed and cadence sensor (both 2032) myself. Took me longer to re-attach the sensors to my bike than it took to replace all three batteries. Working 100% now. Best of all, the batteries cost me just under R40.00 at Builders for Energizer batteries.

My Brother in Law took his Polar directly to the Polar guys in Midrand. Was told that as he did not make an appointment with them they could not replace his battery straigt away. He had to leave the watch there and collect it a couple of days later. Epic fail in the customer service deptartment.
