Yeah mate. The same chops who toss their Steers packets and McDonalds Happy Meal wrappers out their car windows without batting an eyelid.

SCUM OF THE EARTH.

I rage. It usually causes huge amounts of Bull Elephant posturing and cussing sessions. But my take is that it gets the idiots thinking, if for only a day or two.

Here is a little can do - been there, done it!

I was following a local bakkie a coupla months ago. Out came the Steers bag. Except the bakkie had signage, and I knew where it parked. So I stopped, picked up the trash and visited the parked bakkie. I shoved the offending items so far up that vans zoompipe that I imagine it took the arrogant little t*it half the morning to extricate melted styrene from his notso-freeflow.

And if I see you doing it at races, SCUM OF THE EARTH, I shall be cynically civil, take your race number, make sure I beat you to the finish line and then raise holy Cain between yourself and the marshall/organizers/PA system.

IF YOU CARRY IT IN, CARRY IT OUT.

USE A DUSTBIN.

RECYCLE.

ACT LIKE A HUMAN, not an AMOEBA !

EDIT: The law of averages states that some who are reading this thread are guilty of this offence. Similar laws state that they will not reply, or try to defend their dimwitted, arrogant actions. The law of averages and the universe also states that I shall one day come across you and your bike, or you and your bakkie...don't think I am joking.

You are my hero!

I can happily say always when I eat i GU I put the packet back in my back pocket....same goes with Bar One wrappers.

No hero bud, sorry. I just read a lot of Carl Hiaasen.

But I think as the GU thing goes, you may have a point here - back pocket.

How many Back Pockets do you see on Branded Bib Broek ? !!

Specifically for the guys who litter in races ... before you drop the wrapper please think of the following:

1) Do you want to do the race again? Litter IS causing landowners to stop giving races access to their land. Race organisers are facing more and more problems getting access to land for races so this is not an idle threat.

2) Do you want to pay more for races? Because of 1 above, clearing the track after a race has become an essential part of organising. Not only do race organisers have to clear the route markings, they have to go over the entire course and collect litter. This involves people and time and that means money, which eventually ends up being recovered from entry fees!!!! Less litter, less people clearing track after an event, less entry fees.

Yep. same ones that the GU droppers seem to be missing... ;) :P

I actually find it a hassle and a bit of a hazard on the mtb to use the back pockets

I just shove them up my shorts

As Drongo pointed out, it is all over. Try take an early morning cycle along the Durban Beach front after New Years and see how far you get. Broken green bottles everywhere!!!

KFC buckets out of public transport vehicles, MacD's, Steers and lawd knows what else out of car windows. A mate saw a guy drop an ice cream wrapper out of a parked car window and picked it up and gave it back, saying, "I think you dropped this" and walked away.

I watched a girl throw rubbish at a concrete bin and miss. It landed on the floor as she walked away. I called her back and told her it was OK to pick it up and put it in the bin. The look from her was priceless, but I wouldn't break the stare until she picked it up.

Bottom line is that there is a total lack of respect in this country for laws, nature, people and anything else except if it has two letters, starts with m and ends with an e...!

If we all cared, it would make a difference, but sadly not everybody shares our sentiments. In some circles, littering is construed as job creation... What we need is a mindset change and basic education. You can host as many conferences as you like, but until you start doing the basics, nothing will change.

Littering on the bike is just unacceptable.

And the same goes for people throwing cigarette butts out of their window whilst driving

It might not be cycling related, but it makes my blood boil (more than anything else)!

If you want to smoke that is your problem, but what gives you the right to use the environment as a trash can?

I mentioned it on another thread a couple weeks back, the Suikerbosrand Nature Reserve is a haven for cyclists in Gauteng. Which is evident in the number of GU packets lying by the side of the road, as well as PVM wrappers and the occassional punctured tube and bomb cannister. As a nature reserve that reluctantly allows cyclists to ride there, I dread the day their staff actually do a clean up, because that will be the last day we get to ride there.

Littering is shocking, and shows you have absolutely no thought or concern for anyone or anything other than yourself.

Drives me frigging mad, littering. We're riding on someone's property ffs, show some respect. On many races I pick up the litter left by asses that couldn't be bothered to put it in there pockets. Must say though that it seems to have abated somewhat lately in our area.

I have noticed that it isn't the front riders that litter, it's the wannabees.

some people say the bergies are the litter problem in majik forrest where i do most of my rides.that they do litter is so, but i am sure they do not use,co2 cannisters,gu and all other cycling products that i find on the trail daily.i am yet to find one of the bergies trowing away his punctured tube or riding a bike in the forrest.there is a bin at the start/end of majik forrest so why not use it.it just goes to show that money does not buy you manners or common sense.

I fully agree, hence why I bought myself one of those small bags that fit on the frame of the bike just behind the handlebar. None the less, this all stems from government, slack laws = slack mentality, and people just do what they want. Have you seen how clean is malaysia, dont let a cop see you littering there!!!
