If you referring to D-E group, i totally agree. When we turned left on the Malmesbury/Klipheuwel rd we basically came to a stop. Up until there the pace was actually good and we were heading for a good time. I have to say that there were 3 or 4 guys who did most of the work the entire race. Sure some of us did take a turn or 2 but those 3 or 4 rode like champions. One guy in particular, dark kit (black with green writing, i think) on a giant

hey i had on green and black, but that wasnt me.... he as well as a C rider we picked up rode strong up front! i think it was ur friend on the swift who was up front as well. saw him working quite strongly

I crossed the line for the STARS in 3rd position, but then suddenly got put back towards 4th (Excl the 2:25min STAR rider that clearly broke away from the start that no one saw)...I am a bit upset about that as I know for fact there was to infront of me as I saw them....so I doubt the positions also...

My race report....Started in STARS....the beginning was so damn slow that I eventually had to go off on the front till we hit Hellshoogte, I cycled up there with a few hubber, tourvista being one of them...so we went over trying to form a nice group...pfffft.....what a bunch of wheel suckers, I realised now in league no one works...everyone want to wheel suck....anyway...so I went a bit off the front at the back section past simondium.....then people came back and speed climbed a bit....where we turned onto the road that goes towards the R44 I broke away, was a lone ranger for about 12km but slacked down due to I know there is about 50km left...Gerrit genis and them came past so I hooked on, we all worked well together, think there was about 5, we worked all the way till over Klip heuwel and so on...we hit the R304, maintaining a nice pace, I noticed loads of people dropping off as we go...we caght a E-F bunch, (Howzit 'Dale and Marius) and went on that way, last 10km i ran out of water, I was going to throw a attack the last 3km but with a dry throat, not a good plan...finished the sprint in 3rd (no wait according to them it is 4th)...average was +-37km/h and time was abour 2h 54min, think it turned out very well.

There was also a guy that cheated, as when I was on the break towards the R44 I went past a STAR rider, the marshall saw you and I am sure you will be reported.... thumbdown.gif

Awesome seeing some hubbers...

MTB_Roadie - I think we ended up in same bunch from about Fairview (sounds like that). What colours and bike do you have - I was the guy on the Merida with Allan Gray kit. Helped as much as I could into the wind until we caught the rest of the D-E bunch (Dale and kie). But as you say - lots of wheel suckers.

But as you say - lots of wheel suckers.

as this is my first real season of semi-racing, i find that in all races and all groups there will be suckers, and at the end of the day there's nothing you can do about.

but then again if we all complaining about wheel suckers then who is the real wheel suckers......ph34r.png

That's racing, dudes...

If you wanna up the pace, go to the front and pull.

And, if you want the 'wheelsuckers' to get involved, ask them / yell / gesture.

A bunch, other than League, is a bunch of individuals with self-interests, varying racing styles and individual goals.

Nuttin' wrong with dat.

E.g. Yesterday, the C rider in D-E bunch with Mellow Johnny kit who has a racing style of taking regular turns in front.

Take me who typically do 2 x 2 minute stints in front at any stage, then I return to the back and sit in.

And then there are those who never see the front and kick in the final sprints for the finish.

You attempted a Cancellara breakaway.

It was bold, man.

Bud with all due respect, don't confuse the "stars" group with normal league groups. Just look at the time differences and you will see my point

You need to start somewhere...and yes look at the times, you will see that we ended before some SV and other league groups....so what is your point?

Yea I saw you, I was also in the front working along, etc....I was in the blue and white Brothers Sport kit, had a grey and black fondriest with deep section wheels.

Yes true, the people who just sit in the back...luckily in my normal PPA we got rid of the wheel suckers, people actually worked well...STARS we must get there, I dont wana cycle at 30km/h...where a average of 36km/h is so much better...so I push the pace, luckily a lot of wheel suckers drop then....but I am sure more people will work with time.

@MTB_Roadie,

If I was a 'Stars Rider', I would open a thread for this group.

Chat.

Strategise.

Work out a plan (pre-race)

Connect.

Chill.

There is a critical mass of this League Cat in the Hub Republic.

Touristvisa and TinyK, sorry I missed you guys! I'm like that - I zone out completely. I couldn't tell you any of the bikes or kits I was with or anything we passed (except the cows and horses - I always say "hello cows! hello horses!"). 'Dale, sorry I missed the Cobra warm-up., I only got your PM this year.

Think deep sections would have sealed the deal...... time to save up AGAIN! whistling.gif

Yeah, any marginal gain will increase your success rate. Get those deep sections for Summa?

There will be quite a few 2nd hand Zipps on the market with many riders upgrading to Firecrest.

However, the high risk you took had a very small chance for success.

In Pro Tour racing a breakaway with a few riders is often referred to as having a 1 in 10 chance of success.

A guy doing a solo break, unless his name is Phil Gilbert or Fabian 'Superman'.... Hmmmm....

you had a B number? well done man, you looked really strong going away there, pity they caught you!

reason I am asking is that I felt I also did a lot of work in the front, especially section from paarl to fruitselllers. And then at the end the group dropped me, mostly the people sitting wheel all day. But only my 4th road race so still learning the tactics and will get there. I also did a hard road ride saturday and I think it caught up with me at the end. Was a fun and well organised event, see you at the next race!thumbup1.gif
