Hi

I am new to the Johannesburg area (Roodepoort) and would like to go and view a nice fireworks show to see off the old year. Where in Johannesburg can one go to watch a nice show?

Any suggestions or help! I dont think the people in my complex will be quite happy with me if I start my own display! :P

Thanks

I went to that the one year at Kyalami.

I was dating a girl named Candida at the time. Poor thing.

Come spend a new years at my house and you will see how uncool fireworks is. The local loco is obsessed and every SIpho, Beki and Thabo have a fistfull and let them off from 10pm till 03h00 at least. The air is fresh with the smell of cordite and the local vets make a killing from tranquilisers for all the dogs and cats. It sounds and smells like a warzone from Midrand to Centurion.

It may look nice and impressive, and I am all for spectacular sites etc, but when you see what it really does then you will change your mind. Not to mention that it is all cheap Chinese crap, and we all know that the Far Eastern influence in investment and the large workforce present is responsable for the numbers of Rhino and Elephant poaching (nearly 3000 this year), but that is for a differrent debate.

Happy New year!

I agree 1000 %.

In our community, we collaborated with ourselves(the neighbourhood watch) security companies and the coppers to put an end to the madness this year. One person arrested this week, and all the fireworks for sale at the two local chinese shops been confiscated.

It can be done. Needs a collective will though.

Everywhere here is illegal unless you have a permit. Which to get, you need the local residents approval. Which is why we are able to get morons arrested for terrorising us and our dogs. yay! See, not only the democratic (alliance) republic of cape Town can get things done...

Say what ???

Its like a war zone tonight, my 2 dogs are really taking it heavy. Wish i had bought some huge firecrackers so i can trace which imbeciles are letting them of so i can ram the crackers up their rear end and let them off.

One simple solution would be to short-fuse a percentage of the fireworks and let them onto the market. A thunderflash going off in your hand will dampen your enthusiasm (and probably your pants too). The same concept was used to deter grenade tossers in the 80's ;)

But then I'm just a grumpy F$%^K who hates fireworks.... :o
