Had to give up on my Trans 2012 dream this week :( after being sick for 2 months and now having German measles, I would have had to start training from scratch a month before the time....VERY sad! Next year I hope!

That sucks. Haven't seen you on the bike in a long time and now I know why. Hope you get well very soon.

Has anyone got a map of the route? They still don't have it on their site. If you have one of each of the two routes, it would be appreciated.

I am doing my first Trans Baviaans this year and as this is my first ride of this distance, I just would like to know what people genarrly do in terms of food or nutrition along the route? Do you generally keep with the energy bars/bananas/peanut butter sandwiches etc and 32GI etc every few hours, or do you have something a bit more substancial around the mid point?

Thanks

Trans is a very well catered for race. The water tables are stocked with something for everyone.

Just remember that what you eat during the race will only help you the next day.

We always like to have a hot pasta meal when we first meet our support vehicle at checkpoint 5, we normally take a small gas heater or generator and microwave so that our support can have a nice hot meal ready when we first meet them and by then it's dark and cold.As per route we usually chow peanuts and just keep well hydrated with whatever works for you.A banana or two and a energy bar is always good to have on route when you need it but like Dr Dre said the race is very well catered so just plan your race checkpoint to checkpoint!

And the most important thing is to pace and enjoy yourself on the stunning route.Good luck!

ASG Trans Baviaans development

The Baba Baviaans took place the previous weekend with some nice prizes and lucky draws been handed out. Our call for assistance was also very well supported with plenty of donated clothing been handed out. One of our participants, Werner Fourie, an Optometrist from George, also tested peoples vision and handed out ±150 reading glasses, sunglasses, and ±50 peoples’ eyes were tested of whom ±35 will receive prescription glasses. Some of the older folk will be able to read their Bible for the first time in 20 years again!!. Well done, and many thanks Werner!!

Baviaans road condition

During the Baba Baviaans we used the opportunity to go through the Baviaanskloof. The road is good!! It is fairly dry with minimal river crossings and only 2-3 which will wet your feet. Lets’ hope that the weather holds!!

Did the last 90km of the route this past Sunday and road conditions were 100%, but it looks like there is going to be some serious rain this coming week-end. Lets hope the newly fixed bridges and roads hold...

Not true, pay your R20 pp entrance fee at Kondomo office, and off you go.
